Re: [slim] Can I use several Squeezebox with several instances of the WaveInput plugin?
Because a home automation colleague here in Norway who's been using these boxes for years and years thought it would be the easiest and most cost effective way of doing it. ;) I asked in a home automation forum here, and I have asked in several other audio forums before, and nobody has ever been able to tell me a system that can do exactly what I need. All other things that can output analogue audio can only output their own system (Samsung, Philips, Yamaha, Sonos... none of them have a analogue audio input, good enough sound quality and a price that isn't in the pro range, like Bluesound, which costs around £500 for the input node alone and would be around £1700 for a system with two good speakers or 1100 for one with two merely OK speakers). Of course if you know something that can work, please let me know! Then I can use that instead, and just sell the Sqeezebox again, or find something else fun to use it for. All wavinput does is copy an audio source and feed it as a 44.1Khz PCM stream into LMS. If your system uses pulseaudio then obtaining the correct "device" to act a source can be very tricky. If your system uses ALSA No pulseaudio) then it is usually straighforward by using aplay. Before using wavinput - make sure you have a command that when executed at a shell prompt under your LMS userid can copy the desired audio stream into a WAV file. No point using Wavinput until you have such a command. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108585 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Can I use several Squeezebox with several instances of the WaveInput plugin?
Actually wifi has a range that's 10 times that of BT, at least regular consumer units, so there's no reason wifi shouldn't work (which I've already said it does - I never said that wifi was blocked!) in the room even if I can't get BT to work reliably. Long speaker cables is, as I said, my regular way of doing this, but there's nothing going through the walls or floor in those rooms, and the ceiling is not practical. As for getting the audio, that was my question, but I'll see when I get a couple of these things running. Re: [slim] What app for controlling Squeezbox Radio?
No, it's not. Sleep timer is one long-press on the big "pause" button in iPeng, can't get it much easier :) The small pause button at the top of the screen will do, too, but you won't reach that with a thumb. But it means: wherever you are in iPeng, sleep timer is always directly accessible. Hi and thanks, but when i press the pause button as you describes it terminates itself and i have to restart it. I've tried the small button as well wit the same result. Also ... even if you use the menu iPeng has one click less than Logitech's App, that one was four clicks, iPeng is three (bring down player list, tap "i", select "sleep"; and that's from wherever you are in the app) That was nice! :) Much better! Thanks! So I think iPeng is actually pretty thumb-cruising friendly... You may have a point here. :) SlimLibrary is completely inconsistent here. In some menus swiping back works in others it doesn't, even from the left edge. Thanks for your help! Re: [slim] Can I use several Squeezebox with several instances of the WaveInput plugin?
You have two issues. Your original question was about multiple instances and I think waveinput will still work but it will depend on the sources allowing the command to get the audio (e.g. aplay). Windows source may be different. Your second problem was how to get a radio signal through 3 walls - if the walls block wifi they will also block Bluetooth. So asI seeit, your choice is 1. have player connecting to speaker using long audio leads. 2. Have player very close to speaker and using homeplug over power supply so that player can be networked on existing wiring. I also live in an old hgouse with brock walls. I use a meshed wifi (Orbi) in conjunction homeplug to deliver networking to awkward rooms. Placing wifi router/slave so that doors and windows are in the signal path or reflected paths - avoiding paths through multiple walls/chimney breasts.. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108580 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Aha - you had already started a new thread. To summarise the responses in other posts ... when using a keyboard with pCP it is driving Jivelite (the UI). The starting point for keyboard usage is as documented for SqueezePlay at http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezePlay_Developers_FAQ However, I can see that it is not exactly as described there ... for example using a USB attached keyboard the "I" seemed to map to "Power Off" rather than "Up". Does this system partially exisst now ? or is this part of a design exercise ? Do you understand how a Squeezebox actually works and its relationship to LMS? Do you have a LMS ? Are you trying to use Squeezbox player without an LMS ? What are your Squeezebox player e.g. Sb3, SB Classic, RPi3 ?? if power is available in the bathroom. The Squeezbox player (e.g. rpi3) could be located very close to the speakers in bathroom with network connection to LMS server over homeplug. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108580 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Smart people will stay with Squeezebox
+1 Great Thread. I echo the thanks not only to the many contributors of their time and expertise, but to the entire community, because, if were not for this family, support could have dwindled. My story. Despite the "junior member" (low number of posts, I'm more of a reader), I have put my years in, and my addiction has grown. I have owned, and loved audio gear and music since the mid seventies. LPs, a shot stint of 8-tracks, cassettes, then CD's. In 2009 I bought my first duet for the sole purpose of ripping my collection and ease of playback from my library. Pretty narrow objective as I found out... ..Then I discovered internet radio, including Radio Paradise, Pear, Fuzzy and Groovy, and many morewowit's probably 75% of my listening now. ...Then I started thinking of multi room capabilities, and that grew. I now have 5 receivers, 2 controllers, and of course an android app ...I was intrigued by a touch for convenience and the audio improvement, I now have one of those in my main listening room ...I retired a couple years ago (well, my company decided to buy my retirement ) and I bought a run down cabin/camp on a small lake in the woods in Northern New York to renovate. DSL was available (yes!). I didn't want a stack of gear ("roughing it"), so I bought my first boom, pretty beat up and "sticky". Wow, what a wonderful product and perfect for the setting. I then found a nicer Boom, bought that, and relegated the sticky boom to the garage/workshop at the camp. I can have something like Radio Paradise or Pearadio playing and my friends will say "where did you find this station!!!??? It's awesome!". Of course, they are used to FM stations. ...Back at home, I have always listened to squeezeplay while in the office. I realized I didn't have a Squeezebox Radio, so I thought I would try one, found one, bought it. What an excellent product for the desktop usage pattern. A hybrid of the radio UI and the boom audio would be a neat product. I can dream... so, that's 5 receivers, 2 controllers, one touch, radio in one house, and 2 booms at the camp. Sound like I have an addiction? If so it's a fun one. Only one Duet and one receiver bought through retail channels, the rest on the secondary market (ebay). Not once have I ever thought of changing platforms, but I do pray that the hardware will stand up for many more years... Again, thanks to all and long live the squeeze! Re: [slim] IMPORTANT: Stop forwarding your LMS ports to the internet!
I have been using my Synology NAS, which sits behind my cable TV router, as a VPN Server for connections to my LAN from remote locations. The only use I have for this is for using LMS/Player combinations, usually but not exclusively on my Android Phone, on the rare occasions that I am away from home. The only port that is open on my router is that which is required by the Synology NAS VPN plugin and this port is forwarded by my cable TV router. I have been following, but not fully understanding this thread, for quite a while and thought I'd better ask the question. I'm not sure I'm up to setting up and understanding all the logging that is needed to examine this issue and it wouldn't be too much of a wrench for me to simply stop doing this as I must admit my use is rather more experimental than useful. My only significant discovery has been that my free hospital wifi blocks the Synology VPN port and I have to revert to a 4G phone connection which can be expensive if used for any significant time. *Music Store: *Synology DS215J NAS* Home Server/Player:* LMS 7.9.1 on Pi 3B piCorePlayer v3.22 Server/IQAudio DAC+/Amp+ *Portable Server/Player:* LMS 7.9.1 on HP-DV2700 Laptop/Ubuntu 17.10 with synced music drive. *Homeplug LAN Players: *Pi 3B piCorePlayer v3.22/HDMI/Jivelite, Squeezelite on Windows 10 PC *UPNP Wifi Players:* Chromecast Audio/Video, Revo Super-Connect Radio, GGMM-E5 portable *VPN Player:* SqueezePlayer on Android Phone ian_heys's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2629 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107165 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
