Re: [slim] SB1 and 24bit flacs, how to configure LMS to downsample to 16-bit?
Try incorporating that FLAC decode step into your conversion. I think the contents of your custom-convert.conf would look something like this: Code: flc pcm * 00:00:00:00:00:00 # FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v} [flac] -dcs $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t wav -b 16 -r 44100 - Or Code: flc pcm * 00:00:00:00:00:00 # FT:{START=--skip=%t}U:{END=--until=%v} [flac] -dcs --force-raw-format --endian=little --sign=signed $START$ $END$ -- $FILE$ | [sox] -q -t wav - -t wav -b 16 -r 44100 - It's been a while and that may not be right, so you may need to experiment. The "00:00:00:00:00:00" should be replaced with the MAC address of your SB1. Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch to Transporter - sound quality
"Sound quality" is an individual experience; only you can be the judge of this. Both are worthy solutions and, under controlled conditions, I doubt you'd be able to tell one from the other. It's been repeatedly demonstrated, however, that "sound" quality is influenced by more than sound waves hitting the eardrum. If you like the look of the Transporter, or it provides you a certain pride of ownership, it may indeed "sound" better to you. If you're asking is the data somehow different as rendered to the DAC via Touch or Transporter, the answer is no. If you explain "dying" you might get some repair suggestions. It could be a failing power supply. Other options: - Buy a used one off eBay - Replace it with a Google Home/Nest device and use LMS "Castbridge" plugin; I think there is an Alexa equivalent, but I'm not familiar with it - Replace it with a Sonos speaker or one that supports DLNA; both can be seen by LMS - Use any portable radio having an AUX IN with a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer - If you can find an Android "powered" device such as this one below, you may be able to run SB player and SB controller apps: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Zettaly-WiFi-Internet-Radio-Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker-Voice-Control-for-Alexa-o/224248064159 Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113413 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

For those rooms where I plan to have proper hi-fi equipment, I'd still use a Squeezebox or Raspberry Pi emulator but for all the other rooms in my house, I might use Google or Amazon devices. It's amazing the first time you say, "Ok Google, play WCRB" or "Ok Google, who played bass on Kind of Blue?" For casual listening, the fidelity is fine. And, when desired, any of the Google devices can easily become LMS playback points via the "Chromecast bridge" plugin. I'm unclear on whether your friends already have a stereo or powered speakers to use with LMS. If so, setting up a Raspberry Pi server/player and controlling via mobile device is the way to go. If your Lyngdorf amp is one with "Chromecast built-in", you might give the LMS Chromecast plugin a try. From what I've read, it can support up to 24/192. Can't guarantee gapless or ReplayGain support with these plugins, though, so you'll have to test that. Honestly, the best player for LMS is a Squeezebox or squeezelite-enabled device. If you have no other Squeezebox players to support, I'd suggest switching to a full-featured DLNA server like MinimServer and using the Lyngdorf controller app. Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111970 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

On the Arris router, I'd set up reserved IP addresses for both Duet units (and for any PC that might later be used to run LMS). Here are instructions for a similar unit: https://arris.secure.force.com/consumers/articles/General_FAQs/TG862G-NA-IP-Address-Reserve-Setup/ Also, since he's using wifi I'd check to be sure his router is set to the least-congested channel 1, 6, or 11. There are various cellphone apps that let you check this. Here's one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer=en_US Lastly, I'd install LMS (latest 7.9 build: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=7.9) on one of his PCs and rip a CD or two just to check if local server is any more solid. (Also gets him started on ripping.) OP, why don't you turn the old PC into a full-time server, stick it in a closet, and keep running all that stuff on it? If it's doing the things you need, switching to a NAS or RPi isn't going to make things any better. My setup is very similar to yours, but on a headless box out of the way and wired directly to my router. I manage it and move things on/off of it using Remote Desktop. Because it's a server, I leave it powered on all the time; that's up to you. Of course, we'll all have to deal with Win 7 "end of life". I figure I'll wait to see what that involves and try to keep running it for as long as possible. P.S. I don't see any mention in your post of your backup routine and just want to make sure you have one. A "backup" is not a backup unless it's off-site. Frustrating. Some things I'd try: - Unsynchronize all players and see if better with just one playing - Turn off everything; restart in order starting as far upstream as possible, e.g. ONT/gateway or cable modem. Let each device fully start before moving on. Touches should be last - Re-read the Orbi manual and be sure it's configured properly, i.e. if using it with a gateway, the gateway wireless should be disabled and the Orbi set as "access point" - Change your wireless channel: 1, 6, or 11 - Update to current LMS nightly build - Run System Restore to reset your server to before the recent update. Not sure what a Windows Update would have done to cause this issue. More likely it is something about the Orbi interaction with your network that has now decided to act up. Does your server have a reserved IP address? Always a good idea. Are SqueezeliteX settings (output device and server IP) still good? Re: [slim] Can you advise me on a comprehensive home audio setup?
I'm a die-hard Squeezebox fan, but with Sonos PLAY:1 going for as little as $135 right now, it would be hard to recommend anything else. Buy a few for the key rooms and add on as you can afford. If you want higher fidelity, get a Play:5. If you want to plug it into an existing receiver/HTIB, get a Sonos Connect. If you want Alexa support, buy a Sonos One. Each room can be its own zone, or you can synchronize them however you like. You can add a second speaker in a zone and configure them as stereo. No server required; just copy your music to a portable hard drive and hang it off your wireless modem, if possible. Control via smartphone/tablet app. Supports internet radio and music streaming services, too. Another cool option are the Google Home devices. I have one and it sounds surprisingly good; the Google Home Max should be even better. Logitech Media Server can make your local music library available to these players. For that matter, if you're running LMS on a PC somewhere on your network then you can add however many zones you like using an inexpensive Raspberry Pi player or any device that supports DLNA. Re: [slim] Can't Play Digital Music Purchases! Help?
Are the files tagged properly? Not sure LMS can display files if they aren't tagged. Can you see them in "Music Folder" view? Re: [slim] setup SlimDevices SqueezeBox without remote

Seems like a security weakness. Anyway, I recently purchased a Radio remote for $13 on eBay and it works fine. Also works with Touch. Not sure about SB3/Transporter, but I don't think there's any difference. Re: [slim] Help! Wake on LAN suddenly not working for no obvious reason
Currently on Win 7, but I think Win 10 is similar. Type "Network and sharing center" in taskbar and open. On left click on "Change adapter settings". Right-click on your adapter and select "Properties". Click on "Configure" and go to the "Power Management" tab. Be sure the appropriate switches are enabled; should say something like "Allow this device to wake the computer", "Wake on magic packet", or "Wake on network broadcast". If unsure, post back with a list of available options. [slim] Just bought another Touch...
To balance the "so long, and thanks for the fish" threads, checking in to say I got it on eBay as a backup. Paid 50¢ on the dollar, so a fair deal. I may never need it, but wanted the insurance. -Long live Squeezebox!- Apesbrain's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=738 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109242 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
