May set up a small folder of 3,4 albums to test if just a fresh scan will handle it. Don't see why not. Seems about what I did but mine was an album by album approach. Slow! I think it would still require localhost refresh but that takes little time. If I understand what you suggest it would be: Make changes in mp3tag Delete db musicip Add db to musicip Localhost refresh Rescan LMS Tried it on my work computer (small db) and seemed to work perfect. On the home computer I will now be able to make any changes in mp3tag, delete library, reinstall, localhost refresh, and rescan. Much faster and will save me lots of time. When I started using genre I really had no idea what I was doing and made so many mistakes. As I began to explore the possibilities of LMS and the numerous plugins I found that by using genres and Erland's SQL Playlist I could make playlist combining multiple genres of my choosing. This fit my wants to a T. Can now set a playlist that entertains me for hours. Just makes Squeezebox that much more functional for me. Without this forum and people like garym (many others) who share their time and knowledge I would be one of those who never got to really experience what the squeezebox offered. Spent several hours this weekend trying to fix this problem at home without success. Got to the office and started again. I have finally found a method that seems to work. 1. Select genre that needs to be removed and go to each album that is in that genre. 2. Delete each album from musicip mixer. 3. Go to the album/song level in my music and select all songs 4. Edit id tags to the genre or genres you want 5. Back to musicip mixer and add the albums back to your library. 6. http://localhost:10002/server and refresh songs. 7. Complete clear rescan This has corrected all but one album that I am still having problems with. It is Doors Absolutely Live and was originally tagged Live;Rock And Roll. It needs to be Live;Rock and Roll to show with the other RR albums. It was changed at the album/song level and shows the correct genre at that level, mp3tag, and in musicip. After refreshing songs at localhost and rescanning with LMS the album still shows under the wrong genre. Will continue. garym I should have mentioned musicip to begin with. Probably would have saved you time and trouble. Being a complete novice with things computer related I didn't even think about it. Sorry! Corrected the last problem. Doors Absolutely live. Removed the album from my music folder and did a complete rescan. This got rid of Rock And Roll genre. Put Doors album back in my music folder, added it to musicip, Refreshed at localhost, and another complete scan. Problem Solved. The doors album now shows under Rock and Roll and there is no Rock And Roll genre. Thanks again for the help. Hope my experience will contribute to helping anyone else that might be having a similar problem. Still don't understand why it took so much to correct what seemed a simple thing. clear and rescan Have done 4 complete. Have looked for tag accoustic with mp3tag and foobar. It doesn't show anywhere. Seems to be just in LMS. Surely there is a way to get rid of it. Thanks for the help. Garym Yes, I have retagged the offending album Genre from Accoustic(Spelling) to Acoustic(corrected). There are two genres for this album. Accoustic\\Live is the way it is shown. Changed the genre heading as you advised and it does show the two genre fields in mp3tag. Did a clear and rescan and when I open genres I see Accoustic with albums that have been tagged GenreAcoustic\\Live and there is a genre Acoustic (corrected spelling and where the tagged album should show) that is empty. Mnyb Went to mp3tag and selected tools options tagging and unchecked all that were checked under read and write. Put a check in clear for id3v1, id3v2, and ape. Full Clear and Rescan. Accoustic (mispelled) still shows with the albums tagged genre) Acoustic and Acoustic still remains empty. Frustrating. Thanks again for the help. Garym Set mp3tag as you suggested and saved. All of my files are FLAC so as you expected none of this made a difference. When I go to View Tags in LMS on a song that has been retagged Live\\Acoustic with mp3tag the genre shows Live\\Accoustic(misspelled). Converted to wave then back to flac. Was surprised that all tags were still there. Genre tag was Live\\Accoustic again. Mp3tag again to genre)Live\\Acoustic. Now the album shows up under genre Accoustic and genre acoustic. Some headway. I am working on this problem at work computer but time has come to head home. [slim] How to delete a Genre tag?
During tagging I misspelled Acoustic as Accoustic while tagging an album (CSNY, Demos). I have since corrected the mistake using mp3tag but when I go to genre in LMS the accoustic tag is still there with the album. Even though I have corrected the tag for the album to be Acoustic the album only shows only under the genre Accoustic. There are a couple of other misspelled genre tags that I would like to delete along with accoustic but I have been unable to find a way to delete these genre tags. Have cleared and rescanned 3 times thinking the scan might just have missed the change but no luck. Checked the tags with mp3tag extended tags and it looks right. Also checked with foobar 2000 and again seemed ok. Any suggestions of what to try? Agree! Itouch is my pick. Have the duet and itouch. The itouch with the larger screen makes it so much easier to read. I use album review and biography a lot and reading on the duet is just to small and the scroll with the wheel is a bit awkward compared to just running your finger down the screen. Itouch seems to have all the functionality of the duet + can check email, search the web, and have your favorite music with you at all times. [slim] MusicMagic Server refresh problem and ?
When I try to refresh song I get all 0's. Went to check connection and it says Server is unreachable. Any suggestions? I use my pc as the server for squeezecenter and an external nas for storage. The music address is C:\Documents and Settings\Linda\My Documents\My Music and my music is a link to L:music. It has worked fine in the past. Checked to be sure the SBS was running and it is if that matters. Deleted everything in Musicip and scanned Drive L with musicip. Now have gotten rid of duplicate albums but when I open an album it shows 2 copies of each song. If I play the album it plays each song twice. Triewd another rescan without scanning the playlist and still the same. Any suggestions appreciated. Running 7.4 with musicip. Recently changed my hard drive from E to L and with a rescan found duplicate songs and albums. A search found that I need to change my musicip to the new drive to prevent the duplicates. Do I have to delete everything in musicip and rescan and validate drive L. How do I change the drive in Musicip? Also what do I do with playlist? Copy to the new drive and change the location in sbs? Don't know exactly what helped but it is working now. Tried ext dl'er first and it still didn't work. Asked if I wanted a new version so I updated. Finally got home and checked. Spicefly sugarcube was gone. Dl'ed it again to: C:\Program Files\SqueezeCenter\server\Plugins\SugarCube Rebooted Squeezecenter and went to settings/plugins. Still not there. Everything else seems to be there. After putting it in the plugins folder it seems like it has to be there but it isn't. Sorry so late getting back. How is it that it is not working? When I go to musicip mix from a song or an album with the controller it only plays that one song. Does not show any mix, just that one song. Checked services by turning off Squeezemysql and then turning it back on. Musicip server was already on. This had no effect. Still no mix. Rescanned all music in squeezecenter. Still no mix. Any recommendations? Have been using musicip headless for about a year and it has mysteriously stopped working. I have no idea if I did something or not. Where should I start to find a solution? So far I have checked services and it shows musicipstarted. Have also made sure that musicip is checked in settings. Beyond that I have no idea what to check. Thanks for any help. How is it that it is not working? Are you no longer seeing the option to create an IP mix in the squeezebox UI? Are you trying to generate mixes but they are coming up empty? Have always been able to select one track and musicip took over from there. Now it just plays that one track. Has anything changed in your environment such as you firewall? Is the port used by MusicIP suddenly being blocked? Will check when I get home. Nothing has changed as far as a firewall. You mention service, so I assume you are talking about Windows. Are you sure that MusicIP and SqueezeCenter are starting up in the correct order? Will check when I get home. Appreciate the help and will get back to you. [slim] Is there a way? Playlist Musicip Spicefly
Would like to be able to set a playlist and use Musicip to make the mix from only the songs in the playlist. This would be something like rock as the playlist containing all songs with genre rock. Select one song to play from the list and Musicip/Spicefly use that one song as seed for the next but only use songs from the playlist. Right now when I go to a Playlist and select one song I get a mix from my whole library. Is there a way and if so how do I do it? Thanks Sue. Might work but not as user friendly as I had hoped. Was really hoping that things could be changed via the controller. From what you say it would stay in effect until I return to the computer and change the settings or hourly change. I had many of the same problems and struggled for days. One of the things I had to do to get it to work was to leave the Music Folder in squeezecenter settings blank and rescan. Your settings seem to be correct so try the rescan. You may also find that the mm is not there but by hovering over the m icon on the web gui you will see musicip mix. Sorry! Don't know anything about Transporter. I struggle daily trying to learn about SC and all of the extras it is capable of. Does everything work using Squeezecenter? Can you play music through your squeezecenter? Can you play using musicip? If so I would check configuration between squeezecenter and transporter. Are you certain the musicip plugin and sugarcube work with transporter? I have not reentered the music path. SC just used musicip for the rescan as I understand it. Would suggest a call to support if you don't get a response from someone more knowledgable than me. Also posting the question in 3rd party plugins discussion area might get more replies. Was transporter working previously? Really hope you get this worked out. I know how frustrating it is. Been there often. Hang in there. It really is worth the effort. Played with album review over the weekend. Decided to check my installation and found that when I extracted MHCPAN there was a problem and not all of it ended up with my plugins. [slim] Musicip and Sugarcube duet?
Have managed to get them working together and am fascinated by the functionality. Right now I am playing on my work computer and will attempt on my home setup soon. Wondering if the duet controller will have access to the filters set up in musicip? If so where will they be located. [slim] Sugarcube not working?
Installed Musicip headless and sugarcube. Both checked in settings. Restarted SC. From Spicefly: How it Works Just pick a single track to play from your library and the journey begins! While that track is playing, SugarCube takes it and asks MusicIP for another track (based on specified criteria). SugarCube then queues that up to play. When I select a specific song and select play I expected Sugarcube to use that song as the seed and create a mix. Instead I get the same song played over and over. Is it a setting? Suggestions? Michael Just back in town and have been working on this. Loaded the MHCPAN package and it seems to have helped. Strange behaviour. Some albums and biographies show perfect while others still display things like this: blonde on blonde ifa href=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p= and It may go on for ~20 lines or may only be 5 or 6 lines. Makes it difficult to read. May just be a problem with Allmusic. Haven't checked to see if this is also the display on the web interface. Will let you know when I get back to the house. [slim] Musicip disappeared from controller.
Until today my duet controller showed Musicip when you went to an album or song. Now it's gone. Haven't made any changes. Works fine with web interface. Any ideas how to get it back? Have been playing with Album Review Biography and they are also must haves in my opinion. Still hoping for a plugin that will display album liners. Always enjoyed reading them while playing an album but Album Review Biography are the next best. Multi-library also sounds interesting. I have some music that I really don't want included in every day listening. How does it differ from just using filters? Custom Browse? Just dl'd but when I go to settingspluginslazysearchsettings I get 404 Not Found: settings/plugins/LazySearch2/settings/basic.html Running Windows XP and squeezecenter 7.2.1 I dl'd the plugin to desktop extracted with winzip Instructions say: 2. Extract the ZIP file (being sure to preserve the paths in the ZIP file), and copy the resulting LazySearch2 directory to your SqueezeCenter plugins directory. When I open the desktop folder I don't see a Lazysearch directory and have no idea what the direction being sure to preserve the paths in the ZIP file means. Help! Thanks to all. I see once more how much more is available. Learning curve is rather steep for a novice. I'll be installing Erland's recommended plugins. They sound great. Just have to spend the time getting them installed and set up. Currently trying to get Lazy search installed and will then start on Custom Scan and Trackstat Dynamic Playlists and SQL playlists. I pretty much have to set aside a day or two just to get things installed. Another day or two trying to understand the functionality and setup. Your description of how they all work together makes me just want it more. I just have to take small steps and try to learn as I go. Did as suggested and still have the 404 error. Went to the how-to and found the cache file but befor clearing wanted to be sure that it is just a holding area. There are many things in it and I don't want to clear something that is needed in another plugin or folder. Is it safe to just delete everything in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SqueezeCenter\Cache? This folder includes things like: MySql artwork slimserver album review filecache Delete it all? I am a relative newbie to Squeezecenter and in reading this forum I find there are so many things that it can do other than just play chosen music off your HD. I find myself, and would assume other new users feel the same, confused about the functionality of many of the plugins. My hope is that this thread will expose: 1. most used plugins 2. purpose expressed in layman terms 3. basic setup of the plugin to give a good starting point for new users. My favorite so far is Musicip. Had some problems in getting it set up and am still experimenting with the settings. Purpose for me is to explore my music collection. I found myself listening to basically the same songs and cd's over and over. Musicip creates a mix based on its own analysis of your music. This mix can be customized in many different ways which will yield different mixes based on user defined parameters set in the setting menu of squeezecenter. The result is often exposure to music that has been forgotten or overlooked for far to long. I'm still playing with the settings but m'ip has already exposed me to long forgotten favorites. Michael, Sorry about the c word. Really do like the pluggins and don't mean to be negative about them. I did find when I got home and tried them on my real server that the functionality was better but had a problem with the display on the duet. It would give me a line or two of the biography then a lot of computer type command or language then another line or two of review. Will try to get by the house and copy it so you can see what I mean. Went by the house and took another look. Using the web interface I get a great screen that has the beginning of the review or biography with a link to the full review/biography. On the duet I get: blonde on blonde ifa href=http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p= and so on for 6 or so lines then 3 or 4 lines of review then more of the computer stuff. Biography is the same sort of display. Is there anything that can be done about this? Can Album Review/Biography be pointed to a different site? Success! After all the assistance I have finally managed to get Musicip working on my home computer. Not really sure what he actual solution was. Last thing I did was, clear cache,Fix Startup Order of MusicIP and Slimserver from http://spicefly.com/index.php?option=com_contenttask=viewid=32Itemid=32. The site clearly states Slimserver and MusicIP must be working correctly together. Since I was having a problem getting them to work together I had not installed it. After the fact it seems my startup order may have been wrong even though I had gone to Administrative Tools, service, and manually stopped and started the services. Probably just user error. I would not have been able to get this without the patience and assistance I received here so thanks to all that participated. Special thanks to MeSue who went the extra mile. Have found that I now need to upgrade software for the Duet controller to work. Running 6.9 now and am thinking of upgrading to 7.1. Objective is the best software with the least bugs. Suggestions? Just downloaded and installed Album Review from http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins Am using it at the office running Softsqueeze and was enjoying the review as I listened. Abruptly, it ended, telling me read more on the web. Very dissappointing. I had envisioned sitting in my living room listening to my library of music as I read complete reviews and biographies on my duet controller. Was I expecting to much? Is it some kind of copyright thing with Allmusic or am I doing something wrong that only lets a portion of the review display? Thanks for the replies. Worked on this a bit this weekend and made some progress. Using E:\music as the path worked fine for Musicip and I left Music Folder blank in SC. When I did clear and rescan SC showed all my music as imported from Musicip. Musicip works great. Thought I had it but there was no M with my music. Stopped and started Musicip services and SC services but that did not help. Plays the music fine but no mix option. Will continue researching but would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks again. A little research has me thinking that I may need to clear the MIP cache and rescan the music library. Does that make sense? I had already scanned the library and had it in MIP then deleted MIP and reloaded it. When it reloaded it still showed all the music. How do you clear the cache in MIP? Got by the house and checked the validation. Here are the results. MusicMagic Server Current Cache Total songs 4,296 Mixable songs 4,227 Songs to validate 0 enter root folder of music enter text to match songs Everything matches what is in the HD. Once again, these were left in the cache after I uninstalled and reinstalled MIP. Do I need to empty the cache, reload music, and revalidate? Any other suggestions. I am aware that the services need to be started MIP first and Squeeze started after. Should SC be shut down befor starting the services? Thanks again. I found Song file viewer plugin which it seems would work. I downloaded the file and unzipped to the plugin folder. Restarted and checked in Squeezecenter settings plugins. The Song file viewer does not show there. Instructions say to Ensure the plugin is enabled in server settings. Where do I enable it? If I do get it enabled how do I get the info to the file.
