Re: [slim] Sonos dropping support for older equipment
Gotta admit I made the move to Sonos about 1 year ago, retiring LMS and my Pi2 and PiCorePlayer setup. Actually sold a nice Bryston amp and Audiolabs DAC/Pre combo and bought the Sonos Amp to replace it all. I then lost some brain cells and retired my AVR and old discreet 5.1 setup in my basement to go with a Beam initially and have upgraded it to a 5.1 setup in my home theatre by adding a pair of rears (cheap Ikea Symfonisk speakers) and Sonos Sub. To be fair there is the allure of "it just works" and I (and more importantly the wife) likes the lack of wires and its streamlined appearance - a basement reno sealed all of the wires fate. The other reason for the switch was Apple Music support. Airplay worked well enough for a single person but I just missed having a shared queue for stuff like that. Sometimes my wife would like to queue up stuff, or friends - airplay didn't work for that (Spotty plugin and Spotify however was great...) None of my Sonos stuff is old enough to be legacy but on the Sonos forums I too have mentioned LMS/Squeeze as an alternative. I do still keep checking in here though. Hoping for a AM plugin for LMS. I will say without a doubt iPeng is probably the nicest music controller app Ive used. Not sure if Pippin is a ux/ui guy IRL but its truly designed for a touch device with it use of swipe gestures. Its fluid, intuitive to use, and just works. On Android I find Squeeze CTRL a close second but Ive been off Android for awhile. Those both put the official Sonos app to shame (so many menus rather than putting control front and centre) and though they have released an API hardly anyone has attempted to write a 3rd party app for Sonos. I am curious - if it ever came to it, how would I use Sonos devices with LMS (as player endpoints I assume). Some have airplay 1/2 so could be bridged via that plugin. Are Sonos devices also upnp/dnla compatible as well? Would that plugin work. Would it be better than the airplay one? It *is* space constrained but it would be nice to be able to queue up an album or playlist and browse using the digital crown to scroll lists... Regarding that blog post though, the first screenshoot is showing album art with track info, but I can't seem to find that view. It looks like each "page" in that view is a track, but the new app looks more like the 2nd screenshot, just 2 pages and no album art. I can get the album art up by swipe or long press (can't remember which - I think longpress brought up player control) but I like the 1st screenshot more where you get a thumb of album art and track info. It mentions that its a "glance" view but it may not be applicable in WatchOS5 that blog post is from 2015 and WatchOS1 afterall. Re: [slim] Announcing iPeng 9 - Support for iPad Multitasking, iPad Pro and more
I recently purchased the new Apple Watch 4 so have had a chance to try the new watch app. It seems fairly basic, but I just might not be using it correcly. Is there a guide explaining its use, especially the latest versions for watchos5? Specifically is there anyway to browse and add music from your LMS (or spotty plugin), or are you limited to manipulating whatever is in the now playing queue? Re: [slim] SqueezePlay for Windows with ASIO, DirectSound, WASAPI and WDMKS device support.
Is there anyway to have the Screen Off screensaver also turn off the screen backlight in Windows? Re: [slim] Jivelite for Windows
This works on Win 8.1 32bit on a Windows Tablet (Dell Venue Pro 8) but I can't get it to go full screen' like SqueezePlayer and other than the joggler and original skin the navigation buttons are missing (other than off/on) so I can't navigate around. Re: [slim] SqueezePlay for Windows with ASIO, DirectSound, WASAPI and WDMKS device support.
I've setup Squeezeplay to control a squeezelite instance on a Windows 8.1 tablet (Dell Venue Pro 8). Ive edited some of the skins and have it looking good in full screen but while what I have is usuable I have two questions. Can the long push on items be change to a right click? Really just an idiosyncrasy of how right click works via touch device in Win 8 but you can get to the context menus as there is no way to do a long push of the primary mouse button (windows thinks its a right click). Otherwise is there a keyboard shortcut for it. In the Wiki I saw a few different ones (A va a, P vs. p) depending on context but I am not sure if thats applicable to the latest version of Squeezeplay (7.8...) Leading to that, is there a way to reorder tracks on the now playing playlist (short of using play next to modify it). Even with a mouse it doesn't look like this is editable, whereas the web ui you can hold and drag and drop tracks to change their order.
