Yes. Your SB player is requesting an IP from the router, the router
assigns IP's via DHCP. Now you need to enter the router settings to
see why DHCP is not doing it's job or if there is some other security
setting preventing your player from connecting to the router. If that
router is part of your ISP subscription I'd contact them to walk you
through router settings and troubleshooting to connect your player.

The last time I spoke with my ISP about the problem I had connecting my
player to the SBS they reset my network name and the WEP password.
However unbeknown to me they changed the WEP password from the default
128 bit to a 64 bit encryption password and every time thereafter I was
trying to connect with the SBS using 128 bit encryption and of
consequently I couldn't get an IP address. The problem was with the
encryption. Finally got my player connected to the SBS using the 64 bit
encryption. One last question.
Is there an advantage or disadvantage using 64 bit over 128 bit
encryption with the SB player?

Hi Toby,
The model of my modem/wireless router is a 2701HG-G Gateway. I'm not
sure what you mean by your question, can I enter the router's admin
functions? I believe I can make changes to how the
network/modem/router functions, if that is what you are asking me.

Ah, that's different. You may have an incomplete SBS install now, never

I'd suggest a complete uninstall of SBS. On a PC hit Start All
 Programs SqueezeBox Server Uninstall
Now go to http://mysqueezebox.com/download and download the correct SBS
 version for your computer.
Run the SBS .exe program, let it completely install (may take a few
 minutes). Now try to connect.

The sad news is that we had no music last nite, the great news, SBS is
now running, but, my player can't connect. It won't complete the
setup. It stops at, Couldn't find DHCP server.
How can I get my player to connect with the server when it displays
this message?

I'd also suggest running SBS Control Panel Diagnostics, what is
reported for all ports, pings, IP's? I'll bet there are some failed
 remarks in there.
My SBS IP address is displayed in Diagnostics and all the Ports show
OK.
My squeezebox.com server IP address is displayed in Diagnostics and the
Ping and Ports show OK.

I still can't get my player connected to the server. What are the
steps I need to follow to setup the player so it will connect to the
server?

Thanks for the help. I've updated the SBS to v 7.5.3.
But I still cannot get connected the the server. When I try to connect
I get the following message from the SB display screen, Couldn't find
DHCP server. When I re-enter the IP address is does not connect to
the server.
The diagnostics tab in the SBS Control Panel indicates that the Port
3483 failed; Port 9000 failed and Port 9090 failed. How can I get my
SB up and running again? And did I mention we've got company coming
tonite.

Hey Toby,
I went through the complete network reboot. I still can't connect to
the server. I'm sure the problem occurred when my system was going
through the automatic update for 7.5.3, I clicked on the dialog box and
it was like the update froze so I canceled it. That is when all my
problems started. I've never had such a challenging problem like this
in the 3 years I've owned my SB3.
Also my browser (Firefox) gives me the following error message when it
tries to load the interface, Firefox can't establish a connection to
the server at 127.0.0.1:9000.
Any suggestions on how I can connect to the server?

Is your router handling DHCP? Maybe your router is failing? Dunno.

I tried the rebooting suggestion that didn't work.
I don't know how to stop and then restart the SBS server. But I can't
connect to the server so I don't understand how I could even stop it to
re-start it.
I don't believe anything on my router has changed. I contacted my ISP
today to investigate my modem/wireless router and it got a clean bill
of health. I even disabled my firwewall, but this hasn't helped.
I'm not interested in internet radio I just want to be able to access
the music on my computer.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks for replying. I can't completely uninstall SB server v7.5.2

the following message, File In Use, action can't be completed because
the file is open in mysqld.exe

How can I manually delete the remaining folders/files related to SBS?

C:\Program

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file: Delete
File failed; code 5.

What do I have to do to get the update installed on my system?

Merci

Re: [slim] TV equivalent to SBS

Perhaps I'll re-phrase/simplify my question on the SBS equivalent. I
was getting too confused with the responses, front-end, back-end, etc.

What do members recommend I purchase to be able to watch video (i.e. TV
shows or movies) from my local library using my TV? Thanks.

I think it would be helpful if you specified whether you are interested
in (a) streaming from the internet, (b) streaming from a local library
of video content, or (c) both. The market for devices that do (a) is
growing rapidly, including features built-in to Blu-Ray DVD players,
TVs, and various set-top boxes. On the other hand, (b) seems to be
mostly the domain of MythTV, Windows Media Center, Apple TV, and a few
 others.

Thanks for your replies.

Since I believe there are still issues with streaming quality, I'm
really only interested in (b) streaming from a local library of video
content.

Thanks for the recommendations for (b) MythTV, Windows Media, Apple TV.

Is anyone familiar with PopBox? I understand it is reasonably priced.
How does it compare to the other recommendations?
