Re: [slim] Android box as squeezebox

2017-01-02 Thread Nando1970

I use my NEXBOX A1 S912 -> Orange Squeeze + SqueezePlayer -> HDMI ->
Yamaha RX-V381 with no issue.

I will try to experiment with multi-channel audio later (especially
DSD/SACD). BTW any crash intro would be appreciated

Re: [slim] suggestion for desktop speakers

2012-03-20 Thread Nando1970

thank you, I confess I didn't notice that they were bi-amped.

Anyway my question remains: would I be better off spending the same
money on passive speakers keeping my (preamp and) amp, or you suggest
to go with the Emotiva?

There should be a lot of Touch owners which have answered this question
on their own...

[slim] suggestion for desktop speakers

2012-03-19 Thread Nando1970

Hi

I am considering to buy a pair of desktop speakers to replace the
Tannoy in my signature.

After having praised the active Audioengine 5(+) for year, recently
Steve Guttenberg has written a very positive review for the active
Emotiva Pro airmotiv 4

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-57367525-47/emotivas-astonishing-desktop-speaker/

I could get them for about #8364;380, but since I don't necessarily
need active speakers I was wandering if I could get some better passive
speakers.

The passive speakers I am considering are:
- Audioengine P4, at #8364;234 (+ #8364;45 for DS2 Desktop Speaker
Stands)
- Wharfedale Diamond 10.2, at #8364;310
- JohnBlue JB3, at #8364;360.00

any opinion and/or suggestion?

Re: [slim] how to setup a proper ABX test

2010-06-15 Thread Nando1970

thank you everybody.

Just to make you all sleep well ;-) my CD collection is ripped in FLAC
using EAC for my home listening, then converted to MP3 for the iPod,
and I've been advocating FLAC it's a long time now

Anyway I would love to be able to do some proper ABX test and I'll
investigate into your suggestion (too bad all of the sudden I'm
currently very busy at work...)

I would love to start with two 24/176 tracks (Tchaikovsky:Hopak from
Mazeppa by The Minnesota Orchestra and Gottschalk: Suis Moi! Caprice by
Joel Fan), then dither it down to 16/41, and finally use lame for MP3
320, V0, V2, CBR 128 and have the setup ready also for my guests to
help make my point about FLAC.

Any suggestion about what tool to use to dither down from 24/176 to
16/41 without introducing artifacts?

I might also set up a similar test with few Abbey Road (Beatles) 24bit
tracks

ciao -- Nando

Yes please.

This might also aswer my request for ABX test
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79558, as one could
probably just use foobar2000 ABX pluging to perform the test.

[slim] how to setup a proper ABX test

2010-06-10 Thread Nando1970

Hello

I would love to setup a proper ABX test using Squeezebox players, but I
couldn't find a dedicated plug-in.

My main goal is to verify if I can discriminate between MP3 V2, MP3
320, FLAC 16/44, FLAC 24/96 using my current hardware configurations:
1) Duet - Harman Kardon AVR-255 - Chario Syntar 200
2) Boom

Since the Squeezebox Server can serve different streams to multiple
players it should be able to switch between different streams for the
same player, especially if perfect synchronization between the
different streams (playing the same track) is not strictly required.

Any suggestion?

ciao -- Nando
