O WOW, a EUR 399 (USD 595) remote!!

I'm afraid I'll have to stick to my Harmony 555. Does the job for me.

Today Logitech announced the Logitech 900 Universal remote... Basically
and improved Harmony One with RF, a couple extra buttons and a higher
resolution screen.

As an aside, I find it funny that the only device my Logitech Harmony
remote has not controlled flawlessly is my Logitech Squeezebox. On
first setup (and I haven't gone back to tweak it yet) it won't skip to
the next song and a variety of other functions don't work. The only
things that do work are the directional keys, play, and pause. My
harmony has worked perfectly for everything else, including odd stuff
 like modded xbox with xbm.

Just seems kinda funny, considering it's the same company.

My Harmony One and Harmony 525 worked flawlessly with my SB3 and Boom.
You probably have not set it up right. It's the Harmony's that can be a
pain, not the SB's.

Wasn't that the reason why the Logitech acquisition seemed good from the
worldwide distribution point of view?

Not to mention that you can get a switch anywhere and many more people
buy them. You have two things, economies of scale and something rather
familiar: supply and demand. The latter is a rather fundamental rule
 of costs.

RE: [slim] Random Mix: Limiting what is played

2006-01-31 Thread Peter van Cooten
Slimserver is perfectly capable of handling multiple genres: check the
multiple items in tag in the behaviour settings.

Another question is what happens when you have the genre tag rap;indecent,
and start a random mix INcluding rap and EXcluding indecent.
I don't know, but I guess it still would be played based on the rap tag.

Peter

(It just occured to me that if I add pseudo-genres to music
(bad language, party, exercise...) I could exclude them based
on genre but is Slimserver capable of decoding multiple
genres in a tag and is the genre table for random mix
populated based on the genres found in tags or pre-populated
based on the 'standard' genres? I'm not sure this makes sense
 so I hope it does!)

RE: [slim] How to Play Music on Web Server running Slim Server?

2005-10-26 Thread Peter van Cooten
Install the softsqueeze (found on the webUI home page: left column, under
Help) and you'll be perfectly happy!
You can also use Winamp by starting the stream
http://localhost:9000/stream.mp3 and control it through the webserver.
But I guess you'll prefer the SoftSqueeze - it's a perfect SqueezeBox 2
emulator.

Subject: [slim] How to Play Music on Web Server running Slim Server?

In addition to using Squeezeboxes on my LAN, I'd like to be able to select
songs to be played via a web browser, and have the resulting music played on
the web server, using the sound card on the web server.
(My web server runs Linux)

My server is in the garage, and hooked up to an amp that powers in-wall
speakers in some rooms of my house.

Is this possible? Is there a plugin to the SlimServer that will enable
songs to be played on the server itself?

I'd very much appreciate pointers or advice.

Thanks!

Don

Just today I have wondered if there is an webUI equivalent to push-and-hold
the Add on the remote? Just keeping the plus-sign pressed will not work on a
web-page ;-)

You can actually do two things with the ADD button - a single push adds the
new track to the end of the current playlist whilst a push-and-hold action
cues it up to play immediately after the currently playing track.

Selling lossless audio online is a step in the right direction.

Remove the DRM, price it less than the equivalent CD then I will buy.

The way it should be done:

http://www.bleep.com/ - high quality MP3 and expanding range of FLAC, no DRM

http://www.somarecords.com/shop/ - MP3 and FLAC, no DRM

RE: [slim] Stopping SB2 revealing my WPA key

2005-07-15 Thread Peter van Cooten
You are right, offcourse. Extra security measure is to limit access to your
network to certain MAC-addresses only (your own hardware). Most wireless
access points have this feature.

It's just occurred to me that anyone with access to my SB2 and its remote
can easily discover the WPA key for my wireless network. Whilst I might be
quite happy for my neighbours to come round and pick their own music on my
SB2, I'd rather they weren't then able to go home and connect to my wireless
network! This is especially bad as I would guess that a lot of people use
the same password for a lot of other things. Couldn't the SB2's firmware to
be changed to mask the password once it's been entered?
