I had a similar problem recently: 2 SB3s, 1 Touch 1 Radio connected to SBS; from time to time one SB3 would lose connection with the server and would not reconnect without a server reboot. It was not always the same SB3 that would lose the connection, but the problem did not affect the Touch or Radio. Each had a unique IP address. Been enjoying playback via iPad - many thanks Pippin. I find it's particularly convenient for listening while in the bath. One oddity this morning: I listened to Brian Matthews Sounds of the Sixties via BBC iPlayer. When I subsequently demonstrated how cool the new app is to my younger daughter by playing Evanescence, the demo was somewhat undermined by the grinning face of Brian Matthews remaining on the screensaver page. Re: [slim] Stop The Monster cable Bullying
AndreE;426357 Wrote: Just think. The copyright allows having any word or word combination patented/protected by copyrights... Anything what we say would be violating one or another patent/copyright claim... Let's be clear: this concerns neither patents nor copyright. Monster are asserting trademark rights, and they have a history of doing so in an aggressive and often unmerited manner. A word should only be registered as a trademark if it is not one that other honest traders would legitimately want to use (eg a descriptive or laudatory word). Moreover, a trademark is registered for specific goods and services provided by the owner. The vice arises where a trademark owner unreasonably attempts to monopolise his mark in respect of unrelated goods or services of a third party; eg a cable seller trying to prevent a mini-golf provider from using the same name. Pretty much every business has at least one trademark, and will be careful to prevent its improper use by competitors. A TM is a valuable asset. As shown by Lotus (shoes), Lotus (software) and Lotus (sports cars) there is no reason why a non-descriptive word should not function as a distinctive trademark for several different - and non-competing - concerns without inconveniencing the public in any way. Unfortunately, Monster don't seem to see things that way... -- Peter314 Peter314's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14028 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55787 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I hadn't seen the Spotify blog. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm sure you are right that it's only a question of time. I'm just impatient by nature and really want them to get on with it. Despite having an apparently endless trial of Napster (now well beyond 30 days - did I just get lucky with this?), I would much prefer SB support for Spotify. -- Peter314 Peter314's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14028 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61891 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Spotify on Squeezebox
Not sure whether this has been discussed here, but there is a useful guide to streaming Spotify via a Squeezebox: http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/can_you_stream_to_a_squeezebox?utm_medium=widgetutm_source=widget_spotify About three quarters of the way down, Magnus gives detailed instructions for how to output Spotify from a pc to a SB. I am indebted to Simeon at pfm for pointing this out. It works really well! You have to use the pc to select the music, so it's not a perfect solution. But until official support for Spotify is made available, this will do me very nicely. :) -- Peter314 Peter314's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14028 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=61891 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thanks, I had a look. There are indeed major developments afoot, and definitely not something I want to be an early adopter of. There are already a scary number of posts about minor new versions along the lines of since installing 7.x.y music sounds worse/server keeps rebooting/toaster caught fire/wife left me kind of thing.
