Re: [slim] SB Classic Boom Disconnect

2012-01-11 Thread Peter314

I had a similar problem recently: 2 SB3s, 1 Touch 1 Radio connected to
SBS; from time to time one SB3 would lose connection with the server and
would not reconnect without a server reboot.

It was not always the same SB3 that would lose the connection, but the
problem did not affect the Touch or Radio. Each had a unique IP
address.

To cut to the chase, deleting the SBS cache cured the problem.

I think iPeng's Party Mode will let you do what you want

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Playback comes to iPeng

2011-02-12 Thread Peter314

Been enjoying playback via iPad - many thanks Pippin. I find it's
particularly convenient for listening while in the bath.

One oddity this morning: I listened to Brian Matthews Sounds of the
Sixties via BBC iPlayer. When I subsequently demonstrated how cool the
new app is to my younger daughter by playing Evanescence, the demo was
somewhat undermined by the grinning face of Brian Matthews remaining on
the screensaver page. No amount of clearing the playlist would change
this. A full power-down of iPeng did the trick and it hasn't happened
since. Just thought I'd mention it in case it might be of significance
to your continuous improvement programme. ;)

The downsampling should be handled by SOX on the server side. My SB3's
are playing 24/96 and 24/88.2 files fine under 7.4.2 (and also played
them fine under 7.4.1, at least 24/96 - not sure I played any 88.2's).

PS: SB3 will handle up to 24/48 natively, and that is what SOX should
be downsampling 24/96 tracks to.

The 88.2/24 file is new so I can't say if it ever would have worked.
Nine Inch Nails The Slip is 96/24 and used to play on 7.3.3 though.

Is it possible that I'm missing a plugin or could this be a 7.4.1 bug?

It sounds as if SOX is broken. If you look at processes running during
attempted play of a high res. file, is sox.exe listed?

It seems unlikely that Logitech would commit to this technology for a

AndreE;426357 Wrote:
Just think. The copyright allows having any word or word combination
 patented/protected by copyrights...

Anything what we say would be violating one or another patent/copyright
 claim...

Let's be clear: this concerns neither patents nor copyright. Monster
are asserting trademark rights, and they have a history of doing so in
an aggressive and often unmerited manner.

A word should only be registered as a trademark if it is not one that
other honest traders would legitimately want to use (eg a descriptive or
laudatory word).

Moreover, a trademark is registered for specific goods and services
provided by the owner. The vice arises where a trademark owner
unreasonably attempts to monopolise his mark in respect of unrelated
goods or services of a third party; eg a cable seller trying to prevent
a mini-golf provider from using the same name.

Pretty much every business has at least one trademark, and will be
careful to prevent its improper use by competitors. A TM is a valuable
asset. As shown by Lotus (shoes), Lotus (software) and Lotus (sports
cars) there is no reason why a non-descriptive word should not function
as a distinctive trademark for several different - and non-competing -
concerns without inconveniencing the public in any way.

Unfortunately, Monster don't seem to see things that way...

[slim] Spotify on Squeezebox

2009-03-28 Thread Peter314

Not sure whether this has been discussed here, but there is a useful
guide to streaming Spotify via a Squeezebox:
http://getsatisfaction.com/spotify/topics/can_you_stream_to_a_squeezebox?utm_medium=widgetutm_source=widget_spotify

About three quarters of the way down, Magnus gives detailed
instructions for how to output Spotify from a pc to a SB. I am indebted
to Simeon at pfm for pointing this out. It works really well!

You have to use the pc to select the music, so it's not a perfect
solution. But until official support for Spotify is made available,
this will do me very nicely. :)
