Re: [slim] Music IP 1.7 - compatibility issue?

2006-09-23 Thread Russell Mulcahy
I have a problem with 6.5 (on XP MCE) and MusicIP 1.7. MusicIP mixes
work fine on their own and Slimserver works fine for it's normal stuff.
I can even send a mixed list from IP to SS. However, when I try to mix
through the SlimServer web interface, Slim reports that the library is
still scanning (no mix). I don't get the still scanning message when
I, say, list artists.

I have tried a full library rescan but no change.

It looks like some problem in this area, no?

Russell.

i installed 1.7 of Music IP yesterday, analyzed a few new albums,

it, cleared the Slimserver cache and set it to rescan. Slimserver
now won't start - i've tried reinstalling it but the problem is the
same - slimserver

shows as 'starting' in the system tray but doesnt get any further.

I can't imagine a problem with the two - I've been running MIP 1.7 and
SlimServer 6.5 quite happily on my XP laptop. Have you tried running
slimserver _without_ MIP, from the command line? It should give you
some information why it crashes (if it does).

A little bit more info, when I run a command line scan (see below), it
crashes.

Now I have hit the limit of my diagnostic skills :-(

[slim] Squeezenetwork versus Slimserver - Could they be friends?

2006-01-08 Thread Russell Mulcahy
I have just upgraded to an SB3 (very happy with that) and have now got
access to Squeezenetwork. The concept looks pretty good and might be the
seed of some serious market uniqueness for Slimdevices. The current
implementation, though might have have a missed a trick. Essentially,
the SB3 is either logged onto Squeezenetwork, or onto my server but
never both.

Wouldn't it be better if the box could (optionally?) use Squeezenetwork
for some things (such as the clock display and alarms) and stay logged
in to my local server? I could use the SB as an alarm, for example,
without having to leave my server on or explicitly log between
Squeezenetwork and my local server when I want to stream music.

Or perhaps there is some constraint here I don't understand?

Russell.

Re: [slim] Upgraded SB1 to SB3, result!

2006-01-01 Thread Russell Mulcahy
Also upgraded from SB1 to SB 3 over Christmas and this was also
painless. The new SB3 doesn't show a couple of flakiness problems that
my SB1 did and so feels much more solid to use. Also looks great!

Incidentally, the SB1 was refusing to find Slimserver after a power on /
restart but finding it straight away after a network set-up. I have
still no idea why it does this. Offers welcome as I would still like to
use it occasionally.

Happy New Year,

Russell.

Er, no. I am just confused. Less so now, thanks.

No you're not ahead, you have a SB1 if the firmware is version 40.

I hope no one sold it to you pretending it was a SB2.

2005-12-17 Thread Russell Mulcahy

This may (not) be relevant - my firmware version is reported as 40 for
the same 5.2.1 build! Am I *that* far ahead ;-)

I also have a problem where my SB2 "can't find slimserver" after a
power on or restart. Pressing "left" and resetting up the connection
works every time. This is with a Belkin F5D7230v4 router and using DCHP
and no encryption.

In my case at least, the firmware version isn't sync'd that well. Not
sure what this means, though.

No, that's the slimserver software version and locale. Instead, look
just above that info for Player Firmware Version in the web or look at
Settings-Information-Player Information on the SB.

What's the point?  Firmware versions and software versions are sync'ed;
that will answer Dean's question.

Just to satisfy others out there (since Dean should know), the firmware
version shipping with SlimServer 6.2.1 is 28.

[slim] Cannot fnd slimserver

2005-11-13 Thread Russell Mulcahy
Hi, all. I am having real problems with my SB2 rebooting (after 2 t 20
songs) and then failing to find the slimserver. If I try right to
retry, it stall can't find it. If I try left and reset up the network,
it finds the server first time and is off.

No idea why it is rebooting but (in any case) what is different between
the reboot sequence that fails and the network set-up?

Thanks,

Russell.
