Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch + Napster Album Covers

2012-03-23 Thread browellm

Same here. They aren't showing up in the web interface or ipeng, so
assuming it's a Napster issue, will hopefully be resolved on the 27th.

I don't know why they don't go the whole hog and rename it Rhapsody.

Does anyone know what the new streaming bit rate and format will be?

It's not obvious and took me a while to figure out. In the left hand
pane, browse your library by Artist, then album or all tracks -
whichever is appropriate. Then in the main viewing pane select the
tracks you want delete (with select all being at the top). Finally at
the very bottom of the screen, there is a button to delete tracks.

It updates in SBS within a few hours.

[slim] The 7.6.0 is fine for me thread

2011-08-05 Thread browellm

I may be one of the few voices in the storm, but 7.6.0 is playing very
nicely for me, thanks very much!

Scanning is about 10-15% faster than mySQL on my EX490 WHS box, 58k
track library, no I don't have any playlists.

It's been rock solid since I installed, iPeng is rapid, with artwork
hitting the iPad almost instantly. I also love the new web UI search -
nice. Everything is much snappier in operation.

It did force me to clean up my tags, largely some ALBUMARTIST hangovers
that were creating dual entries, and a few case mismatches.

Drilling down into a song url to read the tags/metadata just gives me a
blank left hand pane since I upgraded to the release version of 7.5.4.

information correctly when I look in the more info drilldown. I can
also read the extended information if I navigate to the same data via

I've tried both FF4 and IE9, same result. Any ideas folks?

For example, it's no longer possible to Add to Library via the SB

Frustrating, but better than all the timeouts we used to get.

like iPeng and like to think of it as the power user's choice.

That's easy to implement and we could get around any configuration at
 all.

Only downside: if habits change it might be difficult to promote
another button. So at least a 'clear stats' button would be needed.

That, or some kind of user config would be good. On a selfish level
I'd love Artists, Napster and New Music to be my 'hot list'.

- Syncing Players Variation B
- MySqueezebox.com Integration
- TrackStat Ratings
- Caching of Album + Artist Lists
- Album Art Only Screen
- Better Search
- Something else - Please do the poll with different options !

Please can we have an album sort under the artist that places albums in
year order, with the year in brackets afterwards, preferably?

This has been an epic fail on the Controller. Logitech either won't or
can't implement it.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2010-04-13 Thread browellm

afro;530041 Wrote:
I have just managed to get a direct connection between my laptop and
squeezebox, without having to run it through squeeze centre server
 software.

I am now using DSBridge streaming through squeezenetwork , and thought
I should share it back, as it says a few times on this thread that this
 is not possible.

When you add the stream to your favourites in squeezenetwork /
mysqueezebox.com you need to add #slim:noscan=1 to the end of the URL.
So for me, I have 192.168.1.101:8124/#slim:noscan=1

The DSBridge software only seems to support one stream at a time.
Squeezenetwork tries to connect to validate the stream before playing,
which is tricky with internal IPs. It also creates a couple of streams,
which seems to break dsbridge. Using noscan avoids this, and seems to
 fix it!

 Very happy with this now!

Fantastic, thanks!

[slim] Napster Performance

2010-04-06 Thread browellm

I've been having terrible problems with Napster over the past few days.
If I tee up an album, I get one or two songs, then the dreaded timed
out waiting for data messages begin.

I've tried accessing through my local SBS instance, as well as
mysqueezebox.comc - same problems.

Is this related to recent MySB problems, and is anyone else based in
the UK having Napster issues.

I wondered if it might be my ISP, but all my other browsing and d/l's
run fine.

Any thoughts or more advanced troubleshooting I can do? I'm also
noticing my controller having problems attaching to mySB.com

Re: [slim] Rebuffering is ruining the Squeezebox experience

2010-02-02 Thread browellm

I think it is worth reiterating the advice in this thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=477794#post477794

I had a similar situation with rebuffering after moving my server to a
new installation on WHS. I had previously used a fairly powerful
desktop pc, and never had any rebuffering problems. After porting to a
fresh install on Windows Home Server, I had one of those Oh no, what
have I done? moments, as I would constantly get rebuffering, regardless
of streaming bandwidth (frequently on internet radio, for example).

After following the cache cleaning advice, (and tweaking my.tt for good
measure), I have totally cured the problem.

Now I'll be the first to scratch my head over this. Why should a
clean, vanilla install on WHS have such problems, only to be sorted by a
cache clean and re-scan? I don't know, but I'm very happy with the
results.

I'd love a Transporter but two things stop me.

First is the UK price. I've heard numerous excuses as to why the UK
must pay a premium price for Logitech ( many other)products but the
Transporter takes this the the level of a pure simple rip-off. I've
just checked pricing the US price is $2,000. At todays's currency
rates that should give a UK price of around £1,240. What is the actual
UK price? - £1,800! A nearly 50% premium! Fairly priced? - not over here
 it's not. :(

And then there's the software. There's no way I'm going to be shelling
out that sort of money for a product that forces me to use Logitech's
proprietary software when audio functionality is obviously such a low
 priority.

Fella, you really need to learn how to use google, or something.

This took me about 20 seconds to find £1,299, I'm positive I could do
better in half an hour.

No that's your WAN address. You need the address of the SBS on your

To answer the OP, I found the easiest way to stop and start SC is to
create 2 batch files and leave them on the desktop. This saves having
to go into administrative tools all the time.

Open notepad, type net stop squeezesvc, then Save as stopSC.bat with
the file type as all files.

To start back up make another batch file with net start squeezsvc in
it.

Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection

2008-04-21 Thread browellm

Firstly, apologies as I haven't read the *entire* thread. But I thought
I would post my experiences of connectivity with the SB3.

My router is a BT HomeHub (a very common router in the UK based on a
Thomson/Alcatel box). I have WPA2 and manual channel selection
running.

My SC runs on my home pc, which is not run 24/7 and is therefore
subject to normal daily power-downs.

I had *very flaky* DHCP performance between the HomeHub and SB3, and
had to regularly go back through guided setup to get the SB3 to renew
it's lease (it would often be allocated a private address range 169.x
on startup).

Although it doesn't affect other wireless devices on my network (Wii,
couple of laptops), I don't think the embedded DHCP server gives
stellar performance.

Hacked off with the constant loss of connectivity I shifted the SB3 to
a static address outside of the HomeHub's DHCP range. Since then
(about 2 weeks and counting), connectivity has been absolutely rock
solid.

I am sure many Duet owners have already tried the static address
approach, but if not I urge you to give a try.

 Browellm :

I think I have got the same problem with the Home Hub would like to
try this solution. How do you select wich IP address to use when you
shifted it to a static address outside the Home Hub range ?

You need to have a look at you router's dhcp range first (from it's
admin pages)

E.g. mine is 192.168.1.64 - 192.1.68.1.253

As long as you pick an address on the same subnet 192.168.1.x you will
be fine.

I picked 192.168.1.60 for example. x can be anything from 2 to 63.
Avoid 0,1,254,255 as are special addresses and/or reserved usually.

Note: if your subnet goes all the way from x.x.x.1 - x.x.x.254, and you
are uncomfortable with altering the range just pick a number, say 200,
that is unlikely ever to be allocated to a device by your dhcp server.

Your internal address range might be different to mine (10.0.0.x is
common) but the principle is the same. Just keep your chosen address
on the same subnet (first three dotted number the same)

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs, I'm not sure of your networking
knowledge.
