I don't want a TV everywhere I might want an SB for MANY reasons (cost, aesthetic, heat, etc.). And even if I do have a TV there I don't really want to have it on just so I can glance up and see what's playing. TV's (especially when they're on) have a way of dominating a room and commanding attention; it lends a different atmosphere to the room that I don't want when listening to audio. Maybe I'm not imaginative enough, but I'd be super happy if they'd make something very similar to the SB3 but figure out a way to get it to support Airplay (not something I care about personally, but I recognize it as being important for broader adoption). I also wouldn't want a TV but then neither does the display have to be visible from across the room - I personally use my android phone to control all my squeezebox receivers and it works very well. For the majority of users, I would imagine a plug and play system, streaming music via the internet is pretty much what they want, if the price was right, including music subscription. For those of us who want local copies of our music ripped from CDs etc. then I for one would prefer hardware that is plug and play compatible with different sources - i.e. if I have Squeezeserver hosting my music or JRiver MediaCenter, it doesn't matter. I buy the hardware that I need for the audio requirements (cheap and small for the kitchen, better DAC etc for the main room) and mix and match it with the software solution that suits me best. I was hoping that UPnP/DLNA was the solution but hardware support is very patchy. The raspberry pi (or similar) idea mentioned before sounds good and may be the way to go, but again not for the majority. chemirocha's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18708 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96660 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Sleep Fade time
Is it possible to adjust the sleep fade-out time? It seems to be fixed at one minute and I can't find a way of changing it anywhere. I'm listening on a duet controller plugged into some powered speakers and I tend to listen to one chapter of an audio book before going to sleep. I therefore set the controller to go to sleep at the end of the current song but it fades out before then. I can understand a gradual fade out when setting the sleep for 15 minutes or whatever, but why does it do it when I select sleep at end of song ? I can't find any preferences that let me adjust anything, unfortunately, nor any plugin that does anything similar. Does anyone have any ideas? chemirocha's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18708 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=94966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeeze controller losing network connection
I have a similar situation to Stevan in that the controller will lose connection to the SC server overnight whilst in the cradle and not reconnect without restarting the controller. The wireless power saving makes no difference. However, I am running SC on a QNAP TS-209 Pro set up to do a scan for new music overnight, during which time it becomes un-responsive. So I tried running a scan this morning manually, after reconnecting the controller, and lo and behold the controller has lost its connection and cannot re-connect, even though the scan has completed and the server is now responding normally. I will try disabling the scan tonight and leave the controller in the cradle to see if it loses the connection again. BTW I can ping the controller successfully even though it can't connect, in fact I can even log in using SSH so it is not a wireless or network issue. So, it seems to me that the real problem is the controller and SC being unable to re-establish a dialogue once interrupted. However, it is odd, since I can move the controller out of wireless range (and get the blue icon) yet it will reconnect perfectly once within range again. I hope this helps someone sort this problem, because it is really annoying! -- chemirocha chemirocha's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18708 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45031 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
