[slim] Options for High Resolution on My Computer

2010-03-11 Thread dminches

Before I pre-order a Touch I want to make sure that it is the most
economical way for me to play 24/96 flacs on my Wondows-based computer
system. My understanding is that Softsqueeeze will only play 16/44.1.
I own a Transporter for my main system so I have a lot of 24/96 files on
my NAS. I'd rather not keep 16/44.1 duplicates to accommodate an SB3 or
squeezesoft.

[slim] Squeezecenter/Slimserver - Running as a Service

2009-02-22 Thread dminches

I have read in a bunch of posts discussing issues with running SC/SS in
Vista SP1 references to running it as a service. I am not sure what
this means. Could someone point me in the direction of an online
explanation of what this means and how to do it? Ever since SP1
installed on my machine I am thinking that SS is causing my machine to
hang. Thus, I need to look into alternatives before I try to rebuild
the machine using XP. For the record I am trying to run Slimserver
6.5.4 on an HP with Windows Vista Home Premium. The only reason why I
haven't upgraded to Squeezecenter is SHN support.

Re: [slim] Question for NAS owners

2008-04-15 Thread dminches

I see very little advantage to running SS or SC on your NAS and some
advantages to running it on your PC. As previously stated, you can
turn off your PC if it is running on your NAS. Frankly, I never turn
off my PC so that isn't important to me. The advantage to running it
on your PC is your PC's processing power has to be greater than your
NAS' so any operation you perform, including refreshing your library,
will take much less time on your PC. If you have a very large music
collection, refreshing could be painfully slow on your NAS.

Hopefully this provides you with an action step for you to try.

[slim] Viewing Tags Instead of Files Names When Browsing

2007-10-16 Thread dminches

When I browse through my library on my SB3 and finally select a folder
to listen to what I see is the file name (.flac) instead of the
song name which is stored as a meta tag. In order to see the file name
I have to press the right arrow key. The downside to this is if I want
to quickly browse through the songs names I can't hit the down arrow
consecutively. I have to keep hitting right arrow (song name), left
arrow (back to file name), down arrow (next file name), etc.

Is there some way that I can configure slimserver so I am not seeing
the file names and just seeing the folder names? Should I be browsing
some other way? BTW, each folder contains a concert which is way it is
organzied that way.
