Re: [slim] What can I do now? Squeezebox classic died

2013-02-12 Thread downtime

Yes. I bought it directly from Logitech. I've since purchased another
Classic and a Boom, so I'm not without music. I just wanted to get this
one working again as the line has been discontinued. If my other Classic
dies, I'm not sure what I'll hook up to my stereo amplifier.

I found lots of references to the schematic but couldn't locate it. I
did find a statement from Logitech saying they don't release that sort
of document to the public.

I'll look for a hifi shop.

Thanks.

Thanks maggior. I don't have any experience with a solder iron but I'll
find someone who does when Tet is over. (I'm in Vietnam.) I appreciate
the suggestion.

bpa, I tried the Xilinx and the hard (+) reset with no result. Thanks,
though.

Re: [slim] What can I do now? Squeezebox classic died

2013-02-11 Thread downtime

Thanks maggior and Pascal. I have tried it without the wifi card with no
luck - the S/PDIF light still glows red but no boot up. I bought this SB
new in the summer of 2007, so it's seen some use, but never been opened
before.

Below is a photo of the other side of the card. The blue capacitor (is
that the word?) is soldered to the white spot on the other side and the
board with input/output ports, etc. is soldered to the line of points
with the smear.

If it needs to be serviced, do you have any idea where I can send it?

Thanks again for your help.

Are there instructions somewhere for how to do this, preferably with

doesn't boot anymore but the S/PDIF glows red.

Thanks for your help.

Re: [slim] What can I do now? Squeezebox classic died

2013-02-10 Thread downtime

I managed to remove the card, but still no luck reviving the Squeezebox.
As you can see from the attachment, there is some white discoloration
around some of the solder points. (I'm not sure about the vocabulary for
this.) Does that appear to be a problem or was it most likely a result
of the original production?

I know this is a little off-topic for this thread and appreciate your
indulgence.

Thanks.

[slim] SB3 no longer connects

2010-09-01 Thread downtime

I have two Squeezebox 3's. I've had a silver one for three years and
bought a black one recently. Both have been working well.

The new one no longer connects to the server or mysqueezebox. I've done
a factory reset and a hard reset without any luck.

I can go through the setup menus until Select a music source.
Regardless of whether I choose mysqueezebox.com or the squeezebox
server, when I then press the right arrow, the screen goes black and
that's it.

It can't be the modem, router, or server because the other Squeezebox
works fine. But just to be sure, I've reset them all. The old one
connects and the new one doesn't (but it used to).

Any ideas?

Thanks.

[slim] Shuffle not working

2009-06-19 Thread downtime

I can no longer shuffle playlists. Pressing the Shuffle button on the
remote only shows Don't Shuffle Playlist on my SB3. Likewise, clicking
on the shuffle button on the web interface has no effect. I can choose
Shuffle by Song from the Settings-Shuffle submenu but it doesn't
stick.

I'm having this same problem on three SqueezeCenter installations on
three different Ubuntu machines. I even uninstalled and reinstalled SC
7.3.3.

Any ideas? I've disabled a few plugins. Could that be it?

Thanks.

[Please note this is a repost from a couple of weeks ago. I just
installed 7.3.3 on a MacBook running Ubuntu and am using a brand new
Boom. Any responses would be helpful. I'm thinking maybe it's a
permissions issue, but where?]

It was the Spicefly SugarCube plugin. It disables Shuffle. Fortunately,

[slim] Remembering multiple music sources

2008-12-30 Thread downtime

I am connected to my office network at home via a wireless router.
SqueezeCenter 7.3 is running on two servers, one on the office network
(I'll call remote) and one behind the router at home (local). I have a
Squeezebox 3 behind the router as well.

The Squeezebox can connect to both SqueezeCenters but neither shows in
the other's Music Source list.

If I am connected to the remote SqueezeCenter and go back into
Squeezebox Setup I can connect to either source by browsing. However,
once I connect to the local SC, the remote one no longer appears as a
music source and I have to enter the IP manually to reconnect.

Is there a way to save music sources or enter them as favorites?

Thanks.

P.S. Before posting, I searched for a similar thread to this one.

Re: [slim] The 'Duet' is here

I read the first 15 pages of this thread (and searched it) and didn't
see this addressed, so pardon me if it is but...

Is the battery removable and/or user replaceable?

If the controller battery is not removable, what type of charger does
it use? What are music access options while the controller is
charging?

Thanks for your answers.

[slim] The ultimate (mid-range) combination?

2006-12-02 Thread downtime

I've been using Slimserver for a while now and have installed,
uninstalled, re-installed, and tried quite a few combinations of music,
playlist generators, players. Here is what I have come up with as my
favorite affordable software combination. I am curious to hear other's
combinations. I'd like to stay away from discussions of computers and
stereos because they can add so much to the cost. Maybe there should
also be a low-range and high-range thread also.

Here's what I use to my satisfaction:

1. A music collection that includes most of my favorites in a few
genres, some tunes I don't know but have been recommended to me, some
tracks I definitely don't like (to clear the palette).

2. MusicIP Mixer to generate interesting and provocative playlists.

3. Slimserver.

4. A Squeezebox (which I suppose is a piece of stereo equipment, but so
integral to the whole combination, that I couldn't leave it out).

5. Moose to display album art when I'm not using my PC for other
stuff.

What would you add or delete?

[slim] Re: MusicMagic: Error Sending Playlist to Player

2006-10-28 Thread downtime

I have had this problem also with MIP 1.7 and SS 6.5b3 using the full
MIP library as a source for mixes. Sometimes one track would make it to
the SS playlist, sometimes the whole list, and sometimes some other
amount. Always after a partial list is sent, MIP has to be restarted to
reestablish communication with SS. So,...

I tried this - created a few filters so that lists could be built only
from tracks from the MIP library that were also in the SS library.
Those lists transfer successfully. It seems that when tranferring a
list that contains tracks not in the SS library, they have to be added
before the list continues processing. I think that may cause the error.
At any rate, I have sent a dozen 30-track MIP lists in a row built of
tracks known to be in the SS database without errors.

I have tried building SS libraries of my complete collection but it
bogs down the server. So, I have some files for MIP lists and the
others I am content to choose through the Music Folder.

I hope this helps.

[slim] Re: Compilation albums repeated in 6.3 browse albums list

2006-08-18 Thread downtime

The bug report was too complex for me to negotiate, but I did read what
was written there. Here's my version of this problem.

I have very clean tags in MusicIP Mixer 1.6 beta 2. I'm running
SlimServer Version: 6.3.1 - 8468 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

With Music Folder set to an empty folder and Use MusicMagic enabled, I
execute Clear library and rescan everything.

Afterwards, after selecting Browse Albums, Albums with more than one
artist get listed once for each artist.

All other library statistics seem to be fine.

I noticed that one of the suggestions in the bug report had to do with
the album artist tag. I bought an iRiver Clix that has to use Windows
Media Player to load. WMP reads album artist tag rather than the artist
tag. So, to get the files to show up correctly, I had to copy all of the
artist tags into the album artist tags. So, I'd rather not have to
change those again for this piece of software.

Thanks for your work on this bug.

[slim] Re: 30-second freeze?

2006-07-27 Thread downtime

I am having a similar problem with a brand new SB3. To test it with a
minimum configuration, I dedicated the Internet connection to the SB by
plugging the ethernet directly from the modem into the SB. While
scrolling through RSS feeds, the remote became unresponsive. I thought
the batteries were depleted. By the time I replaced them, it was
responding again. I thought it was the new batteries that had solved it
(ha ha). But, alas, it froze again a few minutes later while simply
listening to an Internet radio station.

So, while local SS load and/or wireless issues may have some effects,
the temporary unresponsiveness may still persist.
