[slim] PlayStation 3 browser and the SC Web UI
I'm thinking of getting a PS3 soon (mainly for the Blu-Ray). One of the things that I noticed was the browser capabilities of the unit. Has anyone tried using the SC web UI on it? Any particular skin? Jumping up a usage level, what I'm also really looking for is something that looks as cool as a windows media player system browsing through the albums graphically. [slim] Off Topic - Logitech Marketing e-mail
This is completely off topic, sorry, but I thought that it might be possible that someone here knows... I just got an e-mail from logitech: logitechmktg at logitech dot com that had some sort of announcement about a webcam contest. It was kind of difficult to tell, really, since the e-mail was in Dutch and I'm essentially a single-language American. So I'm thinking that I've got a profile somewhere that has a setting messed up a bit and I was wondering where I might find it to correct it. A bit of a guess here, but your problem might be related to some display font changes they made to accommodate the smaller VFD on the Boom, including fiddling with the space characters. Try deleting the fontcache file on your SC installation. It should be in your cache directory -- I think the standard Ubuntu location is /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/fontcache. Re: [slim] Sound quality difference CD player vs SB3 FLAC playback?
I've got a Dennon DVD 3910 and when I first got my SB3 I did some side-by-side and blind tests. I made sure that the player had processing turned off by using the Direct and Pure Direct modes. There seemed to be a difference between normal and the direct modes of the player (it was doing something), but I couldn't tell a difference between the player's direct modes and and the SB3. I always had the Reciever's (Denon AVR-4306) processing turned on to adjust for balance, timing, room accoustic handling, etc. I also make sure that the SB3's volume control doesn't do anything to the digital outputs - not sure if that would have any impact on precieved sound quality or richness, though, if the end volume was the kept the same. I also ripped the CDs to flac using EAC and checked with AccurateRip to confirm a good rip. I COULD tell a difference between the highest bitrate mp3 and a CD every time. On the pratical side it matters little what is right, it is your ears and perception that is important - perhaps you could adjust your reciever to process the sound to make it better to your ears? In the past I've liked modes like Jazz Club, etc. because they give a warmer feel... -- dwilliams01 dwilliams01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44394 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] New Device - Headless SB Remote Display/Control
Been away for a few days - sorry for the delay in responding. It was a few years ago when Belkin first came out with mimo-style pre-n, not the current draft n. It had security options that my old G hub didn't support. My laptop with built-in b didn't support it either. They probalby do now, I've no idea and no real interest in it either. There is no point in designing a new device using old standards - as people have pointed out there probably isn't much in the way of a signifant price difference, just a simplicity/efficiency one. My pre-n certainly appears to me to have much better range and reliability than my old G hub. Not a scientific test, but it has been confirmed with multiple devices (using the belkin pre-n cards and hub) vs the old G hub that I had for a while. It went through walls much better, no dead spots and null zones in the house and even work further out into the yard. So speed isn't the only thing to consider. -- dwilliams01 dwilliams01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=36169 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New Device - Headless SB Remote Display/Control
From a speed point of view, 11n might not be needed but from a compatibility point of view it is. At least I setup my pre-n network to use security not available in b or g so they aren't compatible. I wouldn't want to add another wireless hub with a lower level of security and it would be a pain to create stuff like an untrusted subnet, etc. I'd even use it in the same room as the sb because its display can't be read from very far away. If it had a big enough display it would be very useful for picking albums to play and other functions that you now tend to turn on a computer for. It should have a screen that can be read outside in bright sunlight as well... I guess I'm thinking of more of a hand-held type of device so it wouldn't have to respond to the remote control. Re: [slim] Logitech Branding
I guess that I would be considered one of the new arrivals. I just recently discovered SlimDevices and Squeezebox - after it was acquired by Logitech, as it turns out. I found out about it from a BestBuy MP3 player with Rhapsody that my wife bought at Best Buy - sorry. :) The SlimDevices and Squeezebox names don't do much for me, truthfully. Since I don't have the history they don't evoke a sense of high-end audio - or maybe it is just that I'm not a big fan of accordion music. And transporter is a movie about several car chases...I liked it, but it doesn't sound like audio equipment to me. Ironically the Logitech name does mean high-end equipment to me - their trackball has certainly saved my hand over the years and I don't know how I (or my wife) would be able to operate our AV equipment nearly as efficiently without our several Harmony remotes (discovered after they were acquired by Logitech, but not through Logitech). The Logitech experience with my Harmony remotes has been very good and they seem to want to make sure to take the time to properly support their customers. The same can be said for their trackball when I had to call them several years ago when upgrading computers with different ports. All in all, to me, the Logitech brand was a bonus and the promise of more to come. I would suggest to them that the existing experienced users be consulted with special focus groups, early access, advisory groups, etc. There is a wealth of knowledge to be drawn on and a lot of boundaries to be pushed back, etc. -- dwilliams01 dwilliams01's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=33966 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
