[slim] Noise on webradio with following reboot of SB3+Boom

2011-08-16 Thread gonk

Since a few weeks one of my favourite radio channels occaisonally starts
to sound like terrible noise in 2-3 seconds and then the Squeezebox
reboots by itself. Same thing happens on both the SB3 and Boom.

This can happen after a few minutes up to one hour. Other radio
stations plays fine and no problems with (FLAC/MP3) music from my
server.

The radio adress is:

http://ogg2.as34763.net/vc160.ogg - Absolute Radio Classic Rock

I yesterday upgraded the server from 7.5.x to 7.6.0 but with the same
result.

I don't understand what information in the readio stream that can cause
the Squeezeboxes, both the Boom and SB3, to reboot. Both are connected
through WLAN. Win XP server. I don't have a 100% correlation, but most
of the time it happens in the end of a song, which could (?) indicate
that there is a problem when the tag information is updated with a new
song title.

Any ideas what can casue this or anything I can do to isolate the
error?

Best solution today is probably a Dune player for lossless multi-channel

Re: [slim] Gapless playback with FLAC

2010-04-18 Thread gonk

My guess is that there are some transcoding done by the server. Are you
sure this is not the case? I have found that transcoding can get short
gaps. Check the convert.conf file and check what the SB says under more
info under now playing regarding the bitrate and file type.

Also try to play the FLAC:s in Winamp, they should come out gapless. If
you have gaps there, the error is in your FLACs already... (ie. re-rip)

Re: [slim] Server delay when browsing folders

2008-11-23 Thread gonk

Thank you for your response Erland. Todays result in my debugging:

1. I removed the TrackStats plugin in the SS plug-in setup and the
problem did disappear after SS restart! So TrackStats definitley
involved in my problems.

2. I am about to try your recipe, but can you tell me where I find the
SQL Cache directory? I found three directories named Cache in the
Squeezecenter folder, but they all contains pearl code only. I have not
done any ratings, and I can live with a reset in the statistics, but I
have TrackStats backup files created once every 24h which are in the
6MB range.

3. I found a small bug when I now tried to install the
Trackstat-2.5.zip file. In the HTML/Nokia770 folder there is a file
called plugins and one folder called plugins, so the built-in
unzipper in Windows Explorer cannot, by obvious reasons not unzip these
files... (But I doesnt use the N800 as a controller anymore)

[slim] Server delay when browsing folders

2008-11-22 Thread gonk

I currently have 4 Squeezeboxes since I started with my first SB2 many
years ago. However since I updated to version 7 of SS I have noticed a
very annoying delay in the responsivness.

I normally use browse folders when searching for my music, now the
server takes a break of about 8-10 seconds for some, not all
directories. The delay is always there or completely missing. This
delay is regardless of the number of tracks or dirctories in this
directory. Same delay can happen for only 1 entry as well as 200.
Top-level folder with 297 objects always works fast.

Browsing by Genre, Artist,... is fast. I know that SS will scan each
directory always when browsing folders, but I dont understand the delay
for very small folders. Some very large folders does not have any
delay.

I currently use SS 7.2.1 but had the same issues on 7.1. Same delay
when using Duet, IR-remote, Softsqueeze and Web-interface.

I checked the Activities on the server and during the 8-10 second
pause:

1. The mysqld.exe process has 20% CPU
2. The harddrive makes reading noise, as it is trying to read a lot of
info.

XP pro, 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM. 18,000 songs maybe 60% FLACs in total.

Any ideas what and how to make further investigations?

[slim] SS 6.5.1 = new music folder order

2006-12-17 Thread gonk

With SlimServer 6.5.1 the Browse Music Folder order algorithm has been
changed so that my system will not work... Intital Underscores in the
folder names is now neglected.

---

I have the majority of my music sorted as:

Artist/Year Album/Track Title.flac

But for some music types, not accessed frequently, like compilations or
special genres, such as Childrens music, Classical, Musicals and Jazz I
have added an extra level in parallel of the Artist level:

_Genre/Artist/Year Album/Track Title.flac

As you see, to separate the Artist from the Genres, I have added a
underscore as a first character, this way I will get all those folders
in the top or end of the list when browsing music folders. Otherwise I
would have needed one more folder level. This is working very good. I
always use the Browse Music Folder when selecting music, I even
assigned the Search remote button for this task - very handy!

Now for my problem:

After installing SS 6.5.1 (Earlier version was before 6.5, dont
remember the exact version, probably 6.3.x) the folder order algorithm
has been changed so that the underscores is neglected, placing my Jazz
music in between of Iron Maiden and Jean-Michel Jarre, not the best
place to search for Jazz...

I even tried to replace the Underscore with a Hyphen, but it did not
make any change. Anyone that can help me to solve this? Suggestion for
another intial character or any flag to set the way the order algorithm
works?

[slim] Re: Use SB3 to switch a relais?

2006-01-27 Thread gonk

I think most solutions, simple, and not simple, for this have been
covered in these threads:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=17974
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15796

If you find an internal signal to hook up a driver to a relay to,
please let me know. The problem is that nothing is turned off
internally when the SB is powered down. All outputs remains active.

Or vote for this bug that might help you:

[slim] Re: Options for remote power on of non ir amp

2005-11-08 Thread gonk

I have earlier looked for a remote power off to my hidden amplifier. I
think the simplest solution would be to turn off the digital outputs
when SB is turned off. It is a very simple task to build a circuit that
detects when the digital outputs are disabled.

My recomendation is to vote for this bug:

[slim] Re: Mount SB2 upside down - rotate display text

2005-09-21 Thread gonk

m1abrams:

I have a pair of Sonance Virtuoso 830DR in-ceiling speakers mounted in
the ceiling (where otherwise?) just above the kitchen table.

And of course you have right regarding my decision of turning the SB2
uside-down. I can also add that in the unlikely event that I would use
my SB2 somewhere else, in a more normal way, I will not have two large
holes on the top...

I would suggest that Slimdevices add keyholes in a similar way I have
done them and include a rotate display function in the software.

Thank you for all comments. The SB2 is now on place in the kitchen, see
the attached pictures. I did two keyholes to mount the SB2 upside down
- the display was turned 180-degrees. With a hidden power amplifier and
in-ceiling speakers - the kitchen has never been a better place to enjoy
the music.

[slim] Remote trigger to power amplifier

2005-08-18 Thread gonk

Is there a way of getting a remote power turn-on trigger signal from the
SB2 to power up an amplifier?

Maybe there is an internal supply voltage that is in standby when
turned off? Can anyone tell me where to find a suitable voltage?

I will then place a buffer (if needed), connectors and a switching
relay in my Rotel power amplifier. The SB2 will be the only audio
source and the amplifier will be hidden, so it needs no power when the
SB2 is turned off.

So I have now opened the SB2 and yes, you can rotate the display and the
cable is just long enough. I had to cut two small supporting tabs as
some leads on the PCB to the display got in the way. But there are
still several support to the display so it is still in place.

Thank you all!

[slim] Mount SB2 upside down - rotate display text

2005-08-09 Thread gonk

I would like to mount the SB2 upside down under a shelf in the kitchen.
This gives me two problems:

1. How to fasten the device mechanically. This can be solved in several
ways. This is not a big issue, but it would have helped with some
keyhole mountings or similar.

2. The text must be rotated on the display. Anyone know how to change
this in the Slimserver code? Is it possible at all?

Ideas, anyone?
