Thanks - but considering I've had problems with 7.6.0 (it would only
scan a small proportion of my library) and 7.7.0 (I got the hugely
useful message There appears to be a software conflict - which genius
wrote that error message?) I'll stick with what I have for the time

There is a conflict between your server version and the player firmware
version - you need to sync the two versions - then switch off updates.

 Which player do you have?

I have the Touch, which may be ahead of my PC as I tried to install
7.6.0 a while ago, so may have updated the firmware. On my PC I have
7.5.5

I too am being continually pestered by the update available message

The reason I don't want to upgrade is that my experience of upgrading
to 7.6.0 was a total disaster. Hours spent getting anything like a
reasonably working system. Eventually went back to 7.5.5

Later I re-installed XP on my server PC, so decided to give 7.7.0 a go.
I got a message saying There is a software conflict. How useful is
that message?!

Again, went back to 7.5.5

Now, I have a system that plays my music, shows me album art, plays
Spotify, internet radio, and even works with the Android app on my
phone.

I'm a reasonably happy bunny.

What is close to driving me to Sonos is:

I have attempted to disabled the update in the
Settings/Advanced/Software Updates. It doesn't work.

Me and all the other users in my family are plagued by the pop-up.
Fortunately none of us runs as an administrator, so hopefully the
upgrade would not be installed even if someone clicked on it.

However, I get the occasional message on the player itself, asking me
to upgrade. I know how to get rid of it, but I have had my wife call me
at work asking what to do when she wants to listen to the radio. For
software to do this when it has been set not to is (to me) totally
unacceptable.

Sort these issues out Logitech please!

1. If you are going to let an upgrade out into the wild, test it
properly first.
2. If, for very good reasons, users don't want to accept an upgrade,
don't keep forcing it down our throats.

End of rant!

[slim] Squeezebox 3 will not play streamed music

2009-10-22 Thread gw43

Just got home tonight, switched my PC on and hoped to listen to the
Squeezebox.

However, while Squeezecentre (v7.3.3.) is showing that the track is
playing, and the track shows in the display of the Squeezebox, it will
not start. At the Squeezebox end it will toggle between Paused and
Now Playing, but the track fails to start.

Internet radio will play ok.

So far I've tried:

Re-booting PC
Switching Squeezebox off at mains, disconnecting power cable and
ethernet cable.
Re-loading firmware, to v127.

Any thoughts anyone?

free it up.

Maybe it's about to fail!

[slim] WMA VBR Files converted to lower bit rate

I'm using V7.3.3 and just noticed that my lossless WMA files are being
converted to 700kbps. I'm not using any plug-ins (as far as I'm
aware.

What's the point of having lossless files if this is going on?

Is it a feature of 7.3.3?

How do I stop it happening?

One thing I did that was relatively quick and easy was just to create a
playlist containing my wife's CDs.

She can then either navigate to this or use the other playlists, or the
general collection.

Re: [slim] Surprise!

I have to agree with the OP regarding the ease with which my missus has
taken to using the Squeezebox.

She has always been comfortable with the other hifi gear (apart from
the space it took up), so it was not unexpected that she would take to
the Squeezebox, but acceptance of such a device can pave the way for
other improvements and initiatives as yet unspecified!

[slim] Duplicate albums missing tracks

2008-01-14 Thread gw43

From time to time I notice that Slimserver is adding albums. On
investigation it seems that albums are being split, with some tracks
being in one instance of the album, and the rest (usually just one
track) being in another.

A delete and re-scan usually sorts it out, but this is a pain.

Yesterday another problem surfaced. I was searching for The Who, Live
at Leeds on the SB3, but it was showing the playlist for that album as
being empty.

I went to the computer and opened Slimserver/Albums. The total album
count was about 15 higher than I would have expected. There were two
albums titled Live at Leeds, but both were empty. The tracks were
still on my hard drive, so I did delete and re-scan everything again.
Album count now correct, all tracks back in a sinlge Live at Leeds
album.

Anyone got any idea why this is happening?

I'm using Slimserver 6.5.1 (up to now, it's not been broke, so no need
to fix it!)
I don't use iTunes
I don't use any plug-ins that I'm aware of
The album above is not in any playlist
All my music is in one folder on my external HDD - there are no
shortcuts to other folders
All tracks are WMA - mostly lossless, but a few at lower bitrates

I have been experiencing intermittent problems with the power supply to
my external HDD - could this be the cause? The external HDD holds my
music folder, Slimserver is on the internal hard drive.

Cheers guys!

 1. Improved audio circuits.
I'm using the analogue outputs from the SB and it currently doesn't
sound as good as my old Arcam Alpha 7 SE CD-player. I think adding
better audio ciruits/DAC and double the price would make me upgrade.

That's interesting, and it just goes to show that what appeals to one
person, might not appeal to another. I got rid of my Arcam Alpha 7SE
because I thought the Squeezebox was much better. Each to their own I
suppose!

Re: [slim] SB3 doesn't like microwave

Alternatively, get Homeplugs - just Google for sites - and use the wired
connection.

I went with these recently as I got hacked off with my Squeezebox
suffering from interference whatever channel I selected. I could go
for days or weeks after switching channels, but eventually the source
of the interference would track me down, and kill my music.

About £50 for a pair, plus delivery is what I paid - no more drop outs!
