[slim] MOG iPeng Issues- MOG Always switches player to mysb.com

2012-05-17 Thread jclyle

Hi
Just signed up for a MOG trial. Installed it on my Touch and anytime I
use it it switches the player from the server on my vortexbox, to
mysb.com.

Can this be avoided? When the player switches to mysb.com I can't
control it using iPeng.

I am able to use MOG but have to rely on screen input on the Touch,
which is a deal breaker for me.

[slim] Dropouts during playback

2012-04-21 Thread jclyle

I use a Vortexbox Appliance. Have 2 Touches and use SqueezePlay and
iPeng on various devices.

I have one player that routinely has dropouts when playing songs. There
are only 2 albums that have this issue. The albums play fine on all
other devices except for the one player.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I have rebooted the fussy player
and my Vortexbox and still have the issue.

They're MP3's and FLACs. Only one of my Touches is having this issue. I

handful of tracks have issues when playing through a Touch, but when

I do exactly what you're talking about, it's simple.

On your laptop, just open your browser of choice.

Then in the browser address bar type in:

 Server IP Address:9000

Replace Server IP Address with the IP address of the computer on
which Squeezebox Server is running. and you should be looking at
 Squeezebox Server's web interface.

Then go to town. You should see the Spotify Plug-in under My Apps.

If your server computer has a firewall you may need to adjust the
settings to permit your notebook to have access.

Also, the HTTP port is 9000 by default, but if you've changed it simply
substitute the new address for :9000.

You can find the Server IP address and the HTTP Port Number by going to
 Settings Information in Squeezebox Server.

[slim] Apple Lossless SqueezeServer Help

2011-06-01 Thread jclyle

I bought the new album from My Morning Jacket last night off their
website in Apple Lossless format. The tracks play fine through iTunes.
I loaded them onto my Vortexbox Appliance, server version is 7.5.4 I
can see the album in my library. When I play the tracks my SBTouch
shows the album art and the time elapsed status, but no sound output.
The same goes for iPad iPhone playback with iPeng. All the Apple
Lossless files on my server play fine. The files were created from
importing CD via iTunes.

Did I buy a set of files that have some sort of DRM where they can only
be played through iTunes?

[slim] Streaming tunes to iPad

2010-10-01 Thread jclyle

I swear I saw a post within the past day explaining how to stream tunes

I'm using http://182.168.1.100:9000/stream.mp3 in Safari. I get a page
saying its streaming but no sound. Is there a server side setting that
needs to be selected? My Touch showed the file I selected was playing
and I was getting sound through the Touch, but nothing on the iPad.

The server was playing back a FLAC file. Could that be why I wasn't
getting sound on the iPad? Apple doesn't like FLAC for some reason :(

[slim] Network setup for iPeng app

2010-09-25 Thread jclyle

Before I buy the Ipenq app, I want to make sure everything in my network
will communicate with each other..
I'll be using an Ipad on wireless network. SlimServer 7.5 is installed
on a laptop. I use a switch to connect the sqeezebox Touch and the
laptop running server together. Tunes are on a USB harddrive.

I have another laptop running vista. I am trying to load slimserver
remotely using http://192.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000/ i verified slimserver
settings and it is using port 9000, the 'x' is a placeholder for the IP
address of the laptop running slimserver.

I am not able to bring up the webserver/brwoser slimserver on the other
laptop.

Does the 7.5 release allow you to bring up the server remotely? I know
I was able to do this before on older versions.

I'm concerned that iPenq might not be able to find the laptop running
slimserver. I was unable to connect on the iPad using the same address
I referenced above.

Thanks for any insight on what I am doing wrong.

[slim] Wired network for Transporter Ready NAS Duo

2010-01-01 Thread jclyle

I use my Duo for SlimServer duties. Currently it resided on my home
wireless network.

I'd like to setup a wired network with the Duo, and Transporter. Can I
buy a switch to link the two together? Or a router, and not hook the
router to the cable modem? My thought is that I can hook my PC up to the
switch/router when I need to transfer new tunes to the Duo.

Switches are cheaper than routers. I'd like to go that direction :)

I'm having connectivity issues with a busy wireless network and
interference, hoping that a secluded wired network will reduce issues.

Would my above solution work?

[slim] Very simple NAS SB3 network setup

2008-09-10 Thread jclyle

This setup seems like it would work, please correct me if i'm wrong..

Very simple network for SB3 use only:
-Ready NAS duo
-switch
-SB3
-wired connections throughout

The duo and SB3 would be the only devices on the network. I would move
data to the NAS by plugging my laptop into the switch.

I realize I will need to put the NAS and SB3 on a different network
with internet connection to update firmware etc, but once everything is
updated they would be on their own network.

I'm hoping having everything wired will result in better performance
than running the NAS through a wireless router.

Why am I doing this you ask? My listening room is on the 3rd floor, the
wireless router and PC running SqueezeCenter are on the second floor in
my office. The office will be converted to a nursery soon so I'm trying
to move away from a desktop PC as a server...

Re: [slim] Very simple NAS SB3 network setup

2008-09-10 Thread jclyle

Good point regarding the addresses GlenL.

I've ordered a Netgear ReadyNAS DUO. But after reading the discouraging
reviews regarding performance i'm having second thoughts...

Thankfully Amazon has a good return policy. I'll give it a fair try and
see how it goes.

Re: [slim] Running SqueezeCenter on a mini-laptop?

2008-09-04 Thread jclyle

Thanks ro your response! I think im going to get a Netgeat ReadyNAS duo
and see how that works out. That will help eliminate my desktop as a
server. Then get a laptop down the road. the mini laptops don't have
much power/storage for ripping and encoding music so i'll still need
something with power.

[slim] snow after clearing library re-scanning everything

2007-08-01 Thread jclyle

I cleared out my library this morning set SS to re-scan everything.
When i try and play albums, all I get is a constant snowy sound. I
check cables, amp, etc, an dmy SB3 seems to behaving trouble. The
meters move in time to the tracks being played (even though i can't
hear music i know the album i was playing by heart). Has anyone had
this problem before? I unplugged my SB3 and will set it up from

Re: [slim] Nokia 770 $129 on woot.com now!

2007-06-25 Thread jclyle

i answered my own question.. this is from their site

Will I receive customer support like I'm used to?
No. Well, not really. If you buy something you don't end up liking or
you have what marketing people call buyer's remorse, sell it on eBay.
It's likely you'll make money doing this and save everyone a hassle. If
the item doesn't work, find out what you're doing wrong. Yes, we know
you think the item is bad, but it's probably your fault. Google your
problem, or come back to that product discussion in our community and
ask other people if they know. Try to call the manufacturer and ask if
they know. If you give up and must return it to us, then follow on to
the next FAQ entry.
How do I return a defective product?
Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the
product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or
better item from them. If we still haven't dissuaded you, email
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with your woot order number, the name of the product you
are returning, and the detailed problem with the item. We will respond
with return authorization by the next business day. Because we aren't
likely to have a replacement in stock, you should be prepared for a
refund-only option if that's all we can do. Know that return freight
will be at your expense. Again, you will probably get a better deal
from the manufacturer, or whoever else handling customer service for
that product.

[slim] SB3 antenna?

2007-06-23 Thread jclyle

On the back of the SB3, there is the shiny metal stand that acts as a
stand. Does that also serve double duty as the antenna? I was debating
attaching some more wire to its the antenna to try improve signal
strength. I'm having some dropouts and skipping when playing 24bit flac
files. I have noticed that the problems occur when signal strength is
60%. I am considering homeplugs but dont want to shell out the $$ if
i can improve things by moving my router around, and possibly pimping
the antenna on the SB3.

FYI- the rest of my rig is Joilda 502B and Totem Acoustic Staff
speakers. I will have a Channel Islands VDA 2 DAC here next week to
compare against the SB3 analog out
