[slim] iPeng - Prevent Sleep Mode causes problems

2011-04-21 Thread luga00

Hi - not sure if this is reproducable on other iPhones but when I select

'Prevent Sleep Mode' in the settings and then try scrolling that same
settings page it
Is causing black screen dropouts and momentary hangs.
Can anyone else confirm this isn't just peculiar to my phone?
Many thanks

[slim] iPeng offline mode

2011-03-19 Thread luga00

I've recently been using the Spotify iPhone app and a very nice feature
is the 'offline' mode which allows you to download your
playlists/albums for playback without an internet connection.

I'm wondering if there are plans for a similar feature using iPeng?

I asked a similar question to this some time ago but I understood that
a legal issues prevented features such as this.

Re: [slim] iPeng roadmap poll

2011-01-27 Thread luga00

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85135

Question: Which of these iPeng enhancements would be most important for
you?

- Non-Swipe Now-Playing UI for iPhone
- SqueezePlay-like menu operation
- Main Player controls permanently available instead of shortcut bar
- Smaller and lower resolution artwork
- New Main Screen UI for iPad
- Advanced Synchronization
- Additional Functionality (please elaborate)

I'm constantly looking at the App update screen in the hope that iPeng
as a player has been implemented.

Re: [slim] IPeng Internet Radio

2010-08-11 Thread luga00

Hi Pippin - thanks for the quick reply...

I'm using 7.4.2 and the latest iPeng release (as of last week).

In the web browser I can only see BBC iPlayer and Tune in IRL.

I'm not using MySqueezebox.com - I'm accessing the internet radio from
SqueezeServer.

This sounds like I need to finally upgrade to a later revision of the
server. I had stuck with 7.4.2 as it was stable for me.

[slim] IPeng Internet Radio

2010-08-10 Thread luga00

Hi

Should I be able to access all the default internet radio stations
using Ipeng?

I have an SB3 classic and when I access the Internet Radio menu using
the default remote I can access internet radio stations from around the
world both local and by city etc.

I cannot see how to do this using IPeng.

When I use the 'Radios' section of Ipeng all I see is the BBC iPlayer.

[slim] Simple Favorites View

2010-05-26 Thread luga00

Hi

My son is still quite young so I'd like to create a favories folder for
him containing only the songs/albums he likes. It would be great to see
this favorites page in a very simple layout showing only the album
covers arranged in a similar way to how apps icons look on an iphone so
he can just tap the one he wants and it starts playing (on a touchscreen
device - like Joggler/touch screen notepad etc.)

Would anyone know if there is any way to achieve this?

[slim] Ipeng as a library sync agent

2010-02-22 Thread luga00

Hi

if you own the excellent iPeng iPhone app then then you are already
playing/controlling a library of music with a device that is capable of
playing selected albums/playlists from that library as glorified iPod.

Wireless (WiFi) syncing of iTunes tracks to the iPhone is (as yet) an
unsupported feature so I'd be interested to know how feasible it would
be to have this feature as part of the iPeng UI.

ie. you select and album or playlist in your library using iPeng and
one of the options is to sync (send to) iPhone as an iPod
album/playlist.

I'm thinking this would probably only be feasible if your library
consisted of mp3's - otherwise they would need to be transcoded from
flac or whatever on the fly and that probably isn't possible.

Just curious.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] iPeng 1.2 for iPhone now on the AppStore

2009-10-02 Thread luga00

Hi Pippin,

First time I've been able to use it for a while as I had to upgrade to
7.4 a couple of months back after the Slim team fixed a problem for me.

It all works fine except occasionally I find that I'm stuck in Now
playing mode (the three screen swipe) with no way to get out. The icon
at the top of the screen is missing and hence there is no way to break
out.

Just wondering if you've come across that before. I'm going to try and
reproduce to see if I can consistently make this happen as I'm not sure
what is causing this at the moment.

I've attached screen shots of the Now playing screens.

Re: [slim] Need help on WiFi Network design

2009-07-30 Thread luga00

I have done this myself and it works fine. You need to buy a Wireless
Access Point like this one:

http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-WPN802-RangeMax-Wireless-Access/dp/B0009W8M8Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8qid=1248970904sr=8-1

To enable roaming you just need to make sure that the access point has
the same SSID and password.

[slim] Devolo 200AV Homeplug digital noise interference

2008-11-20 Thread luga00

I have 5 squeezebox 3's around the house all connected to a MediaSmart
home server via Devolo 200 AV homeplugs. I've never noticed any
problems with this setup until I happened to plug a pair of headphones
into one of the boxes this morning.

I noticed that whenever the activity light on the Devolo flashes (to
indicate network activity( it causes a digital noise click through the
headphones even when the SB is switched off and playing nothing.

Things really start to hot up when the SB is switched on though. Any
scrolling activity causes digital noise and when a track is eventually
played, the digital interference sounds almost like a fax machine
through a telephone receiver (albeit much fainter).

This is definitely a problem caused by the Devolo homeplugs as I've
tried plugging the ethernet cable directly into the PC and it is
compleletly noise free.

Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to eradicate it?

cheers for any help.
Russ

[slim] Loud static burst, song position skipping and random stopping

2008-09-18 Thread luga00

Hi, I've had four SB3's around the house for a couple of years now.
Since moving up to 7.x I've started expriencing odd behaviour.

Around 6 months ago two of the boxes started to stop tracks dead for no
apparent reason - completely randomly also.

A couple of weeks ago some tracks started to jump song position,
skipping to around a minute or two further on into the track - again
completely randomly.

This morning I noticed that one of these skips was accompanied by a
loud burst of static (sort of white noise).

I've never heard this behaviour on the two downstair boxes but only on
the upstair boxes. All the boxes have exactly the same firmware
version.

Four x SB3 wired using Homeplug powered ethernet.
7.2 Slimserver (nightly downloaded yesterday and reinstalled).
Windows XP dedicated PC for server.
All tracks FLAC compressed using DBPoweramp.

Usually happens on my daughters nursery rhyme album - around 24 songs
quite short in length.
I can't tell when or where it stops as usually I come to the player and

Not sure if it's in the middle of a song or if it's just a track

Re: [slim] Album Artist Browsing - PLEASE

2007-06-08 Thread luga00

OK, I've been round the houses with this and I've finally hit upon a way
to get exactly what I wanted.

I now get all my artists listed as Album Artist with no various artist
folder at all.

Just one point - I'm using MP3Tag to tag my FLAC files so I can't vouch
for any other method of tagging or other file formats.

Firstly, I realised that having the COMPILATION tag was generally
messing everything up for me (even if it was set to 0), so I stripped
it out of all my tracks. I then realised that the band/orchestra tick
box was not working at all so after a bit of digging in these forums I
found that although I was using both ALBUM ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST tags,
the key tag in MP3Tag is the BAND tag. I copied the ALBUMARTIST tag
value to the BAND tag value for all my tracks, rescanned and voila it
shows all my album artists (ahem Bands) in the artist list with no
track artists at all.

So to recap.

1)Don't use the COMPILATION tag
2)Make sure the there is a BAND tag in all your tracks showing what
would normally be the ALBUMARTIST
3)Make sure the Band/Orchestra tick box is ticked.
4)Clear and rescan.

Hope this info works for someone else.

Re: [slim] Album Artist Browsing - PLEASE

2007-06-06 Thread luga00

Well I have to say that I'm finding this all extremely frustrating to
say the least. After playing around with this for
almost 3 hours trying all sorts of combinations of tags, behaviour
settings, and rescanning my library about 10 times, I'm almost
ready to throw in the towel.

Each of my tracks (FLAC) is now setup thus: (using an example)

ALBUM = Classic Steven Stills (for all tracks on the album)
ALBUMTITLE = Classic Steven Stills (for all tracks on the album)
ALBUM ARTIST = Steven Stills (for all tracks on the album)
ALBUMARTIST = Steven Stills (for all tracks on the album)
ARTIST = Steven Stills, Jimi Hendrix (for this track only)
COMPILATION = 0

Under COMPILATIONS in the Behaviour settings I have:

Group compilation albums together
List albums by band

I've also tried the band/orchestra box both ticked and unticked.

AND STILL Jimi Hendrix persists in being listed in the Artist browser.

I cannot see what I'm doing wrong here at all.

Russ

ps I'm using 6.5.2

One question though, given that I only want to browse by album artist,
I still want to 'search' by track artist. Will an artist search now
only find Album Artists?

If, for example, a friend asks me if I have any tracks by 'Billy

like to be able to find it with a search.

[slim] Album Artist Browsing - PLEASE

2007-06-04 Thread luga00

It would be great if Slim could provide an Album Artist category in the
browser.
I understand a lot of SB users on this forum are perfectly happy with
the fact that when browsing through artists there are hundreds of
obscure artists listed by virtue of the fact that they appear on a
compilation album somewhere.

There are also a lot of us that don't want to see this and would rather
browse by Album Artist.

I've tried everything to get the behaviour I want using the tick boxes
on the behaviour page but to no avail.

Surely having a new browse category would please everyone (?)

[slim] Logitech's Windows Media Extender

2006-11-02 Thread luga00

Given that Logitech is:

one of Microsoft´s premier hardware peripherals partner for marketing
Windows Vista-based communications solutions

and with the launch of Vista at the end of this month, I wonder how
plausable it is that the purchase of Slim at this time could be a bid
to use the Squeezebox technology as a step into the Windows Media
Extender market.

These Windows Media extenders essentially do exactly the same job for
anyone using a Media PC running Windows Connect on a 'master' PC as the
Squeezebox does for anyone running Slimserver in the same manner (albeit
without video or photos).

There should be no audible difference between EAC and Audiograbber FLAC

[slim] Re: Artist search produces 'empty' playlist

2006-10-17 Thread luga00

Downloaded the 16/10 nightly and.. it works up to a point.

In fact it only seems to work for album artists.

If I do a search for 'John Smith' for example it finds the artist and a
right cursor will now show all the relevant albums but only if 'John
Smith' is the *Album Artist*. If 'John Smith' is on a compilation
album, then the album is not shown in the list.

[slim] Artist search produces 'empty' playlist

2006-10-16 Thread luga00

After doing an artist search in 6.5 the artist that it finds is
displayed (as you'd expect). However, if one then cursors right to see
the all the tracks by that artist the list is 'empty'. However, I can
still play this empty playist and sure enough track advance (FF) goes
through each track that I would have expected to be in the playlist.
Does anyone know if a bug has been raised for this issue? I notice
there is a similar bug for LazySearch but I'm not using that plug-in.

[slim] Re: stream keeps stuttering

2006-10-12 Thread luga00

Yes, it works Andy. I now see seconds displayed instead of a
percentage.

However, I still get stuttering on all stations in Shoutcast that were
absolutely fine in 6.3. Some are worse than others but on the whole
they all start stuttering eventually.

I've set the pre-buffer to 30secs but I see this dwindle down to 0
seconds after about 20 seconds or so and it starts stutteting again.

With 6.3 I used to be able to listen to shoutcast streams for hours but
now it's un-usable after a few minutes even on the most stable streams.

v confusing.

Sure, here's an example. I've opened the gallery view and chosen an
album for which there is only placeholder artwork. I think at this
point Slimserver tries to open the first track to retrieve the embedded

explains why I'm getting only placeholder artwork for these albums.
I had no problems with these albums under 6.3 by the way.

[slim] Artwork Problems - Need confirmation

Can someone at Slim please confirm that the gallery view only uses
artwork found in the library folder of an album (ie folder.jpg) if it

This seems to be the case looking at the debug log after a clear and

The 85mbps ones typically give me around 60-70 mbps depending on which
part of the house they are in.
If you can wait til October, the new 200mbps adaptors are coming onto

[slim] Duplicated track entries when using playlists - POSSIBLE SOLUTION

2006-01-02 Thread luga00

I've had the same problem that a lot of people on these boards seem to
have had with M3U playlists causing double entries in the album track
listings.
I've tried moving the playlist to a different directory and telling SS
about it but this and other things I've tried did not work.

I did notice however that playlists created from within the SS web
interface did not cause this problem and it was only when creating
playlists with WMP10 that the duplicate entries occured.

The problem seems to be that WMP10 M3U entries use an explicit ip
address to the server whereas the web interface entries use a local
drive letter.

eg. This is from a WMP10 created playlist and causes a duplicate:
#EXTINF:0,17 God Only Knows.wma
\\192.168.1.3\Music Library\Beach Boys\The Very Best of the Beach
Boys\17 God Only Knows.wma

This is the same entry from an M3U created by SS web interface that
doesn't create any duplicate entries.:
#EXTINF:0,17 God Only Knows.wma
D:\Beach Boys\The Very Best of the Beach Boys\17 God Only Knows.wma

I apologise if this already a known issue but it could help some people
in the interim.

[slim] Edirol MA-15D warning

2005-12-21 Thread luga00

...well, not so much a warning as something to look out for if you are
hyper-crytical (which I'm not).

I recently purchased a pair of these powered monitors and as they have
a spdif input they are ideal to use with the SB3.

Actually, they are excellent speakers and I highly recommend them.
However, they feature a bass-enhancment option which you can switch in
or out on the rear of one of the speakers. Although you get complete
silence when nothing is playing (hurray), I was convinced that I was
hearing some sort of white noise over the top of tracks that were
actually playing and, in fact, if you stop a track that is playing, for
about 500ms or so you can hear this white noise in isolation after the
track has stopped.
At first I thought this was an SB3 problem as it happened with all the
outputs, but after a bit of experimenting I've found that the culprit
is the bass enhancement feature. If you switch it off the problem goes
away. As this bass feature is psycho-acoustic it is adding some degree
of unpleasant side-effect to the music.
I must admit that the bass effect is quite good in itself and you have
to be really listening hard to hear the white noise but it is there and
I thought I'd just post my findings in case any of you were experiencing
the same thing.

[slim] Re: Edirol MA-15D warning

2005-12-21 Thread luga00

They are great speakers for the price, especially considering that they
are active and accept both optical and coax. If you switch the bass
enhance off and they are as clean as a whistle but lacking in bass
(obviously). I can actually live with the bass enhancement switched on
as the bass it adds is actually very nice and the noise it introduces
is virtually imperceptible at the levels you would normally listen at.

I'm using them in both the kids bedrooms, quite small rooms.
The lead they ship between speakers is around 1.5 to 2m long but is not
the best quality lead. It's only a phono to phono though so you can
replace this no problem.

Anyway, I thouroughly recommend them.

[slim] Re: Browse Artwork issues

2005-12-19 Thread luga00

I had a lot of artwork display problems and have now got it to work how
I want it to. However, it was a laborious process and I had to do a lot
of diggin around to solve the problem.

Basically, when Windows media player rips a CD it creates it's own
Folder.jpg and some other artwork thumbnails that put a real spanner in
the works. It hides these as system files so they don't show up in
explorer. To get round this problem you have to open an explorer
window, in the top menu go to Tools-Folder_Options and in the panel
that opens click on the 'View' tab. Now check the 'Show hidden files
and folders' button. You can now see all the offending automatic
artwork (folder.jpg, windows small thumbnails etc)
I delete all the thumbnail jpgs and folder.jpg that windows creates as
I don't need them. I then rename all my artwork to cover.jpg for each
album.

Then before a rescan I delete the IE tempory internet files folder
which caches a lot of the artwork and uses it next time you scan (or at
least it seems to).

Give this a go, I'm not sure if this will solve your problem but it
helped me get what I wanted.

2005-12-12 Thread luga00

I posted this thread a few days ago:

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18935

and it has since sunk under the sheer weight of messages this board
receives.

Radish's possible fix (ie changing the transcode to Wav instead of
flac) doesn't seem to work for me so I'd like some indication from the
guys at slim as to

a)whether this is a known problem for WMA lossless or
b)it's due to be fixed in 6.5 at some stage.

It's quite an annoying bug especially with so called 'gapless'
orhcestral albums.

regards
Russ Shaw

Ah, thanks for that, Michael.

I'll give that a go.

[slim] Re: SB3 - WMA lossless song gets cut off at end

2005-12-09 Thread luga00

I'm probably going to regret this but how do I force SS to transcode wma
lossless to wav rather than flac?
cheers

[slim] Re: SB3 - WMA lossless song gets cut off at end

2005-12-08 Thread luga00

After further investigation this happens with a lot of my music. The
amount cut off at the end seems to variable - anywhere between 0 - 2
seconds or so. I would guess that the last buffer is not being played
and as this last buffer could contain any amount of data depending on
the very last refill then this would explain it.

Also, looking at the bug database I notice a similar bug which reported
the same thing happening to flac files and as wma lossless is transcoded
to flac for playback it's probably the same bug.

[slim] Re: SB3 - WMA lossless song gets cut off at end

2005-12-08 Thread luga00

Was this bug really raised way back in April?

If I'm right in assuming that it has still not been fixed then I'm
shocked as it's a class A bug, surely.

It's a possible show stopper for me and the units will have to go
back.

If I'd bought a CD player that did this I wouldn't have kept it for 8
months that's for sure.

[slim] AlbumArtist v Artist listings

2005-12-06 Thread luga00

As a new SB3 owner, I'm less than enamoured with the current method of
browsing through swathes of contributing artists for all the reasons
I've seen a hundred times on this forum.

I understand that the guys at Slim haven't had the time or the
inclination to address this as it's probably well down on their list of
priorities.

The 'ideal' for me would be for SS to 'not' show any contributing
artists in the browse list but AlbumArtist only. But to include the
contributing artists in any 'artist search' that I might do.

My question is 'Can this be done with a plug-in of some kind?'

I work for a large computer games company and obviously know a great
many talented coders. I would get one of them to write a plug-in to do
this and make it available to others wanting this feature but only if I
know that it is feasible in the first place.

2005-12-06 Thread luga00

Well, it's a thought:)

Everyone here uses I-Tunes through our network but I know a lot of the
young lads here (there are 250 of them) would be interested in the SB
system so I'll probably try to get them interested first and who knows
what that will lead them to write.

They all 'love' open source stuff obviously. It's in their blood :)

2005-11-30 Thread luga00

Ouch!,

Amazon.co.uk is showing the SB3 as Out of stock or discontinued -
please look at the alternative products shown below

Not a very good endorsement. Maybe someone should contact them about
this.

[slim] Display composer in Now Playing

2005-11-25 Thread luga00

I have seen all the various options for how the current track is
displayed in the Squeezebox 'Now Playing' display. I'm wondering if
it's possible to show the composer in this window rather than the
artist.
This would work particularly well with my classical collection.

[slim] Re: Yet another Various Artist/Compilations thread!

2005-10-28 Thread luga00

Dave, I do the exact opposite to you. The Album Artist for me is the
artist for the whole album so I would categorise 'Hits of the 70's' for
example, as the Album Artist and all individual contributing artists
under 'Artist'. This is the way it works for WMP10 and for while is the
way it worked for SS 6.2 although it seems to be broken again under 6.5
beta.

[slim] Speed concerns

2005-10-27 Thread luga00

Hi, I am considering purchasing a number of Squeezeboxes for around the
home and as an experiment to see how well it works I've ripped the
entire collection to WMA lossless, downloaded Slimserver 6.2 and a copy
of Softsqueeze. I'm running the SS on a 2.2ghz P4 with 1GB RAM.
When I play any track from my library from our second machine (which is
more powerful than the server machine) using WMP10, playback is very
near instantaneous as is any track browsing by album, artist, genre
etc.

However, when I now try to use the Slimserver coupled with Softsqueeze
2.0 and the web interface (again from the second machine) , its a
differnent kettle of fish entirely.
When I click on a track or album to play it, Softsqueeze takes around
25 seconds before it actually starts playing. The same delay also
occurs when I skip to the next track in the playlist and when I do any
sort of search using the Softsqueeze software remote.

My question is, does this sound like I have a problem or is this
behaviour just something that one should expect from using Softsqueeze?

Will I see a vast improvement (the same sort of instantaneous playback
I get with WMP10) once I swap Softsqueeze for a Squeezebox?

[slim] Re: Announce: Third-generation Squeezebox, SlimServer 6.2

2005-10-25 Thread luga00

Ditto, I was just about to buy 5 x SB2 units to kit out the whole house.
However, I'm not tempted by the SB3 design - I prefer the SB2 'lay down'
approach and it seems to be the same beast under the hood in any case.
Looks like I'll be trawling e-bay in the coming weeks especially if
there are going to be some bargains to be had.

[slim] The 'Perfect' Remote?

this would be my 'ideal' remote, especially if the screen had the
