 There are two scenarios:
 1. You want to listen to local music
 2. You want to listen to online streaming services

You're right. I'm willing to be dependent on my private cloud (with my
own music) and the different cloud-solutions of the several content
providers (like spotify, fm radio etc.). But I'm NOT willing to be again
dependent of any let's call it interface cloud provider between my
private cloud and the several content providers like it is/was with
mysqueezebox.com even when using LMS.

Re: [slim] Pre-Announcement: ickStream

Maybe i don't get it, but where is the difference to
Logitech/Mysqueezebox.com when you're talking about payed cloud
service? When the income will not cover the costs someday, someone will
have to make a decision and close the cloud service as logitech did with
the squeezeboxes. So where is the advantage for us consumers? Just
another name, but with the same end?
Why not build a plattform for everyones own cloud at home?

You can do that with ickStream, if you like. But what is your cloud at
home? Most people don't want to have a server running 24/7 and I, for
myself, enjoy having access to music I don't yet know. This will not go
away, people will use online services for a lot of their music
 listening, probably most of it.

Maybe i really don't get it, but your business model depends on your
cloud services, right? Why should you then give one the oppertunity to
build up a totally independent plattform from your cloud services? This
makes no sense, because it would decrease your income and therefore
endanger the operation of your cloud services. So what does you can do
that with ickStream really mean: That some services depend (as with my
squeezebox.com) to your cloud services, even if the main core is
installed on ones private cloud? Then we're once again at the beginning
of the story: mysqueezebox.com but with another name.

Regarding private cloud server 24/7:
When talking about a private cloud using the word server is already
a mistake, because common people think of servers that they are loud as
jets, costs hundreds of dollars per year for power consumption, are big
as skyscrapers, are worse for healthy reasons and so on... But we know
that this is totally wrong nowadays: You can build up small systems with
low power consumption which has so much horsepower that they can do much
more than just handle your music library and some music services. The
only thing that is missing is that someone builds up a a ready to go
hard- and software platform which can be handled by consumers. I never
understood why logitech tried to implement the LMS into the touch. Why
not build up some small ready to go nano server (sorry: private cloud
system)?

As I said: support too often has no idea what they're talking about.
It's easy to blame the other side when you're running out of better
 ideas.

Yes, i know! I trust you and not the napster side and wanted to show
the official wording of Napster, so that everyone can draw his own

Michael, great to talk to the guy owning this app :)

It would be good if we could have better support for Napster playlists
 - adding to them, as in the bug, but also better (faster)
synchronisation. I had to pretty much give up using my Napster
playlists on the Squeezebox because even if i created a playlist on the
PC I could never know when it would appear on my Squeezebox. Sometimes
this was many many days later!!

Same here, cancelled my subscription today, because about 4 months of
waiting to fix all the bugs by Napster should be enough. Until today my
library sorted by artist isn't usable, because it lists many albums i
have never added to my library. And adding and deleting songs to/from
my library isn't supported anymore and there is no info if this
functionality will ever come back.

cancelling my subscription) that only logitech can solve the issues by

Re: [slim] SqueezePad vs iPeng vs Squeezecast

2010-12-28 Thread mule

If you wish to have music playback on the iPad you can only choose
between Squeezepad and Squeezecast. Since Squeezepad has music plaback
integrated, Squeezecast is no more an alternative, because Squeezepad
can do everything that Squeezecast can do ... and much more!

If you don't need music playback on the iPad you can choose between
iPenq and Squeezepad. In my eyes the decision between those two apps
depends more on personal taste than on functionality. Have a look at
the gui and the feature list and take your decision.

The headphones bug now has a concrete target and is assigned to an
actual developer who still works for the Squeezebox team. This bug is
not getting fixed in a couple weeks, true, but really it's in pretty
 good shape!

Yes we can agree that no alarm is even worse in comparison to an alarm
that only fires through headphones.
My only comment: Why has the radion been released with such a buggy
software? Answer: Because the hardware was done long before the software
was ready. Same happens now with batteries. Once again a buggy software
version for the radio is beging pushed out in order to sell the
batteries.
And next time there comes a buggy version for the touch, because the
hardware is ready since september/october of last year?

One suggestion to logitech: Just stop the work of you hardware
department and give you software department some air to breathe, because
such products are only working when hardware and software fits
together!

Re: [slim] 7.4.2 nearing release, need your help!

2010-02-02 Thread mule

I'm upset!
Once again the radio alarm bug: alarm coming through headphones
instead of loudspeakers is not going to be fixed although targeted for
7.4.2 release and although it should have worked from the right
beginning as Caleb has been stated on this forum!
Don't you think it's not a critical bug when you're not being waked up
by an alarm because it doesn't come out of the speakers? What should be
more critical than not being able to hear the alarm sound? :-(

2010-02-02 Thread mule

Great to hear that the target for the bug stated above was just moved
from 7.4.x to 7.5.0. So, will it ever get fixed? Seems not! Maybe
because it's hardware related and not only a software bug?! Otherwise it
could not be too difficult to fix it when keeping in mind that Caleb
stated that it was already working while the radio was in beta! So what
is the truth about it?
