[slim] Re: Problem opening new files

2006-05-02 Thread oli

Nope. Tried that multiple times. Now the problem has mutated into no
FLAC files playing at all (displaying the same 'Problem' message),
while all mp3's are playing fine. I've tried re-installing slimserver
and the latest nightly builds, and also factory re-setting the SB2, all
to no avail. I can't believe how flaky my SB2's/Slimserver's behaviour
has become in the last few months. Very poor indeed Slim!

I haven't anything to my library for a while. I have just ripped a few
tracks with EAC and SB2 says 'Problem: Can't Open File For..' All old

[slim] More SB2 Problems!!!

2006-04-05 Thread oli

The firmware on my SB2 was upgraded last night to version 36. Since
installing this, music has been cutting in and out, and overall
response has been very sluggish. Essentially the SB2 in it's current
state is totally unusable, and this is the case whether I use
Slimserver 6.2.1. or 6.2.2. I am also still to hear from Slim regarding
my WPA-PSK problems mentioned in previous posts. I know that you catch
more flies with honey than vinegar but Slim's customer service at the
moment, and with respect to the issues I am having, has been absolutely
appalling. The customers on the forum have, as always, been very
helpful. I hope, but don't expect, to hear from someone at Slim soon.

Cheers

Oliver Perlin

I have tried all of the above suggestions (thanks guys) without any
success.
I am also still to hear anything from Slimsupport. On this matter I
have found Slim's customer service to be extremely poor, and am fast
being turned from a very happy customer in to a very unhappy one. This
simply isn't good enough Slim!

[slim] Re: WPA Problems still unresolved!!!

2006-04-04 Thread oli

Just a quick update. On re-installing 6.2.1, Slimserver said the player
needed a firmware upgrade. The player updated itself and is now version
36 (previously 28). Thinking this might make a difference I tried
installing 6.2.2 again and this time it worked. Unfortunately this has
done nothing to resolve my WPA-PSK difficulties, and I am still to
receive any response from Slimsupport.

[slim] WPA Problems still unresolved!!!

2006-04-02 Thread oli

Sorry to re-post on an old/open subject, but I am still to receive a
response from Slim after almost 2 weeks and am becoming slightly
disillusioned and fed up. In the hope that this post either jogs
someone at Slim in to action or receives a solution/suggestion from a
forum member here goes...

I am running the following:

SB2 (Firmware: 28), connecting wirelessly to a Netgear DG834GT
(Firmware: 1.02.04), connecting wirelessly to a Netgear WG511T
(Firmware: 2.52.29.4), which is plugged in to a Dell Inspiron 5150,
(connected to an external Seagate hard drive for music storage) and is
running Slimserver 6.2.1.

For almost a year I was running this setup, protected with WPA-PSK with
absolutely no problems. However, on resetting the SB2's MAC address, due
to a problem with SqueezeNetwork and on the advice of Slim support, the
SB2 will no longer connect to my network when WPA Personal is
activated. The network is found, but a strange IP address, different
from all the others on the network, is assigned, and the SB2 fails to
conncet to Slimserver. The only way I can currently connect is by
disabling WPA protection, which I do not want and nor should I have to
do.

I provided Ross Levine at Slimsupport with this information almost 2
weeks ago and despite asking for an update over a week ago have still
to receive any response from him or anyone else at Slim support.

I would be very grateful if any forum members could help out with this
issue, and if someone at Slim would be good enough to contact me and at
the very least update on their progress with this problem.

Cheers

I've just installed 6.2.2 but when I try opening it up, nothing happens,
the icon in the task pane just keeps flashing on and off, saying that
Slimserver is starting, but it never does. I've re-installed 6.2.1 and
it works fine.

After re-installing 6.2.2 again and being unsuccessful again, I tried
re-starting the computer. On the password screen I get a pop-up screen
headed slim.exe - Application Error, it says,

Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

Any ideas?

[slim] Re: NETGEAR model DG834PN WPA-PSK connection problem with Squeezebox 3

2006-03-27 Thread oli

I'm having exactly the same problem with a Netgear DG834GT. Everything
was working fine until I reset the player's MAC address in order to
connect to SqueezeNetwork. SB2's firmware version is 28. I've tried all
the available versions of the Netgear's firmware to no avail. I have
been in contact with Slimsuppport for about 2 weeks regarding this
issue but have yet to receive any useful advice.

[slim] Whining - Sorry

2006-03-21 Thread oli

Sorry to whine guys, but...

Since attempting to use Pandora I have encountered numerous
problems,e.g. fixed digital output operates variably, Slimserver loses
my SB2 whilst connected to SqueezeNetwork, and, most frustratingly of
all, since resetting my SB2's MAC on the advice of Slim support, I
have lost WPA functionality on my SB2.

Although in general I am very happy with my SB2, I am disappointed by
how buggy SqueezeNetwork is. I am also still awaiting a response from
Slim support regarding my loss of WPA functionality. Come on Slim, this
isn't good enough by your own high standards!

Cheers

[slim] Re: SB2 no longer connecting to wireless network!

2006-03-19 Thread oli

Having checked things further, the problem appears to be that the SB2
will not connect to the network when WPA-PSK is enabled on my router
(an IP address is assigned but it is completely different from any of
the other devices on the network, see below). Once this is disabled,
the SB connects to the network and is assigned an IP address matching
the other devices on the network, i.e 192.168...instead of the strange
one assigned when WPA is activated, e.g. 169.254.228.49.
This is bizarre because, as I've already said, my SB2 worked flawlessly
with WPA-PSK activated on my router for months. The problem has only
arisen since resetting the SB2's MAC, on the advice of Slim support, to
match that printed on its' base. Please help guys!

Cheers!

[slim] Re: SB2 no longer connecting to wireless network!

2006-03-19 Thread oli

Nope. Just temporarily set the WPA-PSK network key to 12345678 (has to
be minimum of 8 characters) and whilst the SB2 detects the network and
the server's IP address, it is still assigned a strange IP address and
ultimately fails to connect to the server. Aren't there any Slim people
who can chime in on this?

Cheers!

[slim] SB2 no longer connecting to wireless network!

2006-03-18 Thread oli

After resetting the MAC of my player, on the advice of slim support due
to a bug with Squeeze Network, my player is no longer connecting to my
network. I think it is a problem with it's DHCP function as when it
obtains an IP address it is totally unlike that of the other devices on
my network. I contacted Slim support about this on Friday morning but
have yet to receive a response. Please help, as now, on the basis of
advise from Slim support I can no longer use my player!

Cheers!

[slim] Re: SB2 no longer connecting to wireless network!

2006-03-18 Thread oli

I have disabled MAC filtering (called Access Control on my Netgear
DG834GT)to no avail, (the SB2 had worked with this turned on before
anyway)and also entered the reset MAC address into the access control
list, agian to no avail. The SB connects to the router when I disable
all security settings, but I am not prepared to go without WPA
security, and the SB2 has been working fine with it all up until the
MAC reset I did on Thursday. I've also checked the WPA passphrase on
the player corresponds to the router's. What's going on?

Cheers

[slim] FLAC strangeness

2006-02-07 Thread oli

In the last couple of days, when opening up the FLAC frontend, a windows
installer window pops up telling me it is trying to install Microsoft
Office Professional Edition. Only after cancelling this three times
does the FLAC frontend open. I have tried running a full suite of
anti-spyware and virus programmes, defragmenting, and uninstalling and
re-installing FLAC, but all to no avail.

Any suggestions?

[slim] 6pin - 4pin Firewire/1394 cable???

2005-09-25 Thread oli

Hi all

Looking to bolster the meagre (40gb) storage on my Dell Inspiron 5150
in preparation for an SB2, and the Maxtor One Touch II 300gb external
USB/Firewire looks good. However, both my USB ports are already in use,
so I'd like to use my 1394 port. I think it is a 4 pin input (how can I
verify this?) but the cable supplied with the Maxtor is a 6pin to 6
pin. If it turns out that my 1394 port is indeed a 4pin, could I use a
6pin to 4pin cable from the Maxtor, or would this not work/adversely
affect performance?

Cheers!
