[slim] Fastest path from ripping to playing

2008-10-14 Thread patrija

Hi. Several times I have bought a new CD that I want to then play on the
transporter. My normal steps are to rip to FLAC via EAC, and then run a
SlimServer scan for new songs. This takes too long when I really want
to listen to the music quickly - is there a faster method to manually
browse to a song not yet in the library? Thanks.

Re: [slim] MusicIP - definitive install instructions for 7.1/7.2 (inc. headless)?

2008-09-07 Thread patrija

I think I have MusicIP setup correct, but have a question

System: Vista Ultimate 32, SC 7.2 - 22997 , Music IP 1.8.1b

I have the MusicIP headless running. It returns:
Total songs 36,582
Mixable songs 36,566
Songs to validate 561
And can create a test mix.

In SC, I have the MusicIP plugin enabled. I can see the M in SC.

Question:

I'm still not sure if the music library should be set to my music
directory path or leave it blank? Benefits either way? There are some
songs that I know MusicIP is not picking up and I like to play via SC.

Re: [slim] Transporter - Speaker connection help

Hi. I'm in heaven!!!

Music room is ROCKIN' with new Gallo Reference 3.1's! Connections are
transporter XLR to the Avalon, and RCA to Gallo SubAmp.

Home Theater is using the toslink into a Maestro M2e and Diva.

VERY HAPPY!

Re: [slim] Transporter - Speaker connection help

2008-05-21 Thread patrija

Hi. Yes, I'd like the ability to run both systems at the same time and
playing the same music.

My main listening area I want to run analog signals from the
transporter. I plan to use the transporter's XLR and RCA at the same
time.

In the home theater I use the Diva for digital processing, so I'm
planning to use a digital connection from the transporter.

Question: Do the XLR, RCA, and Digital all output at the same time?
I've read the XLR/RCA do, but have not found anything on the digital

Question: I believe my only downside to the above plan is lack of
volume control between the transporter and the music room amplifier.
For now I'll have to use the transporter volume control.

[slim] Transporter - Speaker connection help

2008-05-20 Thread patrija

Hi. I have a transporter that I'm trying to setup optimally and could
use advice. Here's what I'm trying to do:

1) I have a 2-channel music room with Anthony Gallo Reference 3.1
speakers driven by an Audio Control 2-channel Avalon amplifier and the
Gallo sub amp.

2) I have a 7.1-channel home theater room driven by an Audio Control
Maestro 2e premap, Diva processor, 7-channel Savoy amplifier, and
Boston Acoustic sub amp.

All equipment is in a central rack with speaker cable runs to the music
room and home theater.

My goal is to send the best audio signal to the Gallo Ref 3.1's in the
music room, while hopefully being able to play the same music in the
home theater.

What I'm planning to do is:

MUSIC ROOM:
- Transporter XLR to Avalon to Ref 3.1
- Transporter RCA to SubAmp to Ref 3.1 Second Coil

HOME THEATER:
- Transporter Digital Out to Maestro M2e / Diva / Savoy to home theater
speakers.

I think my biggest assumption is that the XLR, RCA, and digital outs
can all run at the same time. I've read in the forums that the XLR and
RCA work at the same time, but didn't see anything on the digital
outs.

I think the biggest downside is that for now I'll be relying on the
Transporter's volume control, which will affect volume in both the
music room and the home theater?

Does this sound right? I plan to try this tomorrow with my systems
installer. Thank you for any thoughts!

PS - This is a temporary setup for a few months. Eventually I'll want
to also include a Crestron PAD8-A to run the audio to various whole
house speakers. That might get real confusing

Re: [slim] Love My Squeezebox! What's The Equivalent For Video?

2007-11-30 Thread patrija

check out the d-link hd media lounge offerings. it is very slick with
video streaming, active tv integration, plus does a pretty damn good
job with music streaming. I have a few friends that have switched from
sonos or SB3 to this solution and are very happy with it. in
particular, they love single box solution, tv-driven control for all
media, and ability to control their entire library through the latest
version of windows media server.

i've been tempted to go this way myself, but have spent a lot of money
on slimdevices technology, including several SB's plus a transporter. I
love the high end audio and technical focus, and am hoping that the
logitech acquisition helps us catch up with family friendly
usability.

[slim] Squeezebox and Hamachi

2007-08-03 Thread patrija

REPOST to correct forum.

I have a remote media server at a co-lo host with a fixed public IP
running SlimServer. I connect to this remote server using a SqueezeBox
on my local home network to stream music. That works perfect.

On the remote media server I have a hamachi client, and I also have a
hamachi client on all the PCs on my local network. I have locked the
firewall on the remote media server to only allow remote desktop, etc.
via the hamachi network connection. That works perfect.

CHALLENGE: I want the SqueezeBox on my local network to connect to the
remote media server via the hamachi IP address. This way I can lock the
firewall on the remote media server to ONLY allow hamachi connections. I
don't believe it's possible to load a hamachi client on the SqueezeBox.
Any ideas?

For reference, my original plan was an SSH tunel, but I also have
remote non-techie family members that use this server to stream their
own music. Hamachi is MUCH more user friendly for Mom!

I've been using hamachi for other purposes awhile now with generally no
issues.

I'm currently trying to setup my SB3 to connect to a remote server
using the hamachi IP. Basically, trying to lock that server dowm to
only hamachi connections. So far I can easily stream to the public IP,
but the hamachi IP is not public addressable so having some difficulty
with the config (no hamachi client on the SB3 itself).

[slim] Re: QUICK HELP PLEASE - Slimserver not playing AAC M4a files

2006-10-23 Thread patrija

OK, played around more with this tonight:

1) Reconfirmed that the m4a files do not play.

2) Did a SS uninstall and deleted the program directory. Installed
today's SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252.
The m4a files play.

3) Then did another SS uninstall and deleted the program directory.
Installed today's SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 10449 - Windows XP - EN -
cp1252. The m4a files will again not play.

I'm obviously going to revert back to 6.5.0. Clearly seems to be
isolated to a problem with 6.5.1.

[slim] QUICK HELP PLEASE - Slimserver not playing AAC M4a files

2006-10-21 Thread patrija

I spent the week getting songs and creating playlists for a party
tonight and now have an urgent music problem! Help? Advice? Thanks!

I have a fairly small library of about 2400 songs, the majority of
which are converted to M4a files. Everything was playing fine all week,
and then on Friday two things happened:

(1) my wife upgraded to iTunes7 and,
(2) I upgarded Slimserver to 6.5.1 - 10426 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252

Now, it appears that none of my M4a files are playing. Can't guarantee
all are not, but everyone tried thus far is not playing. All other file
types play fine. I've downloaded the latest LAME and Player/Audio
settings say its working. I've checked and have the latest Quicktime
versions. Not sure where to go from here, but I'm losing time. I guess
I can always run the party playlists from my iPOD and DLO dock.

[slim] Possible??? - Remote Squeezebox

2006-04-19 Thread patrija

I have 2 SB2s connecting to Slimserver running on a Dell Server and a
Nokia 770 as a remote. Music is AAC and managed with playlists via
iTunes. Internet is Comcast cable on a 6MB line (usually) with modem
connected to a Belkin Pre-N wireless router. Works fine.

Recently bought a lake house about 1.5 hours away. Installed 384k DSL
there. I have an old SB1 sitting in a drawer. Is it possible (and
realistic sound quality) to hook it up at the lake house and stream
music from home? My current and fall back solution to get the same
music and playlists is an iPOD and DLO HomeDock.

Getting back to responding. You covered most of them, so I'll delete and
only include ones you asked for a response. Thanks again for all this
hard work!

bklaas Wrote:

 what image? Need more info...

*** I can't recreate what she descriped. What she described wasn't the
image, it was the entire window with whitespace next to the skin. But
 as I said, I can't recreate it.

 5) If click on a Squeezebox's Playlist when it's full of songs, there
are not icons for Play, Move Up, Move Down, Next, Remove, etc. Looks
like text box image place holders? These basically split the screen in
half and causes songs to wrap. The functionality is great!

I've seen this under certain circumstances, and I can tell you it's an
issue with the Opera browser and not the skin per se. I don't know how
I can fix this, but I will see if there's anyway of preloading images
into opera's cache (esp. ones that are used repeatedly throughout a
 page like these)

 workarounds:
configure slimserver through server settings to not display as many
 items/page.
hit the playlist icon a second time when you see this and the images
may load on the page refresh.

*** See some recent posts about images. Will try today's nightly.

 6) Does not appear to be ability to delete a playlist? Typical
situation is when I do a playlist rescan, it pulls playlists from
iTunes I don't want so I go in to delete them from Slimserver. It's in
the default skin with a second confirmation step.

How is clear playlist different than delete playlist?

*** If I understand, clear a playlist clears the contents of a
squeezebox's playlist. Delete a playlist actually deletes it from the
slimserver console so it never shows up again in browse playlists.

Question: Do you have a 770?

I just got a 770 today and first thing I did was load up the skin. THIS
THING ROCKS! The WAF factor has gone up tremendously (very important) -
she never liked using a PDA and obviously hated having to go look at the
squeezebox.

In the interest of providing *constructive* feedback, here's some wife
comments. Please take these as constructive usability comments, not
knocks or technical criticism. As I said this skin ROCKS!

1) She liked the bigger album display when using Telcanto on an Axim.
Overall now playing interface is much better, just liked the a bigger
picture.

2) Same question regarding the Repeat and Random icons - what are they
and why can't you click them. Once explained it made sense. Agree with
earlier post on not adding text, keep it clean. One idea might be to
put a background behind the repeat and random icons so them look like a
header rather than a clickable icon?

3) When you put the 770 down flat (e.g. on a table), the light grey
(teal?) icons and text wash out. Maybe another color?

4) If click on Squeezebox's Playlist when it's empty, the image is not
sized correctly - scrolls right.

5) If click on a Squeezebox's Playlist when it's full of songs, there
are not icons for Play, Move Up, Move Down, Next, Remove, etc. Looks
like text box image place holders? These basically split the screen in
half and causes songs to wrap. The functionality is great!

situation is when I do a playlist rescan, it pulls playlists from
iTunes I don't want so I go in to delete them from Slimserver. It's in
the default skin with a second confirmation step.

6) What does the Download button do when on a Playlist screen?

7) When you scroll in a playlist, would it be possible to keep the top
icon in place. Thinking of something like a frame for the playlist, but
sure that's not the right way to do it. Usage example is if you scroll
of the bottom of a playlist to force a song to play next (AWESOME
FUNCTION!), you then have to scroll all the way back up to get to the
Now Playing icon.

8) Possible to slightly increase font size for the menu on the Settings
page? My fat fingers always click the wrong thing

Idea - I'm getting a 1GB RS-MMC card. Wonder if it's possible to store
album images on the card so it pulls those local rather than OTA.
Should be quicker?

AS I SAID THIS THINGS AWESOME!

[slim] Re: SB2 Wireless Help Needed - Audio Drops

2005-11-09 Thread patrija

Thanks everyone, at work so won't have a chance to play with it until
later tonight. I'll check my UNPNP setting, can't remember which way I
have it right now. Music is all MP3, a lot are iTunes converted using
JHymn. I'll look for the Network Stumbler program to see what I can
find.

Timer Accuracy
Slimserver uses a timer mechanism to trigger events such as updating
the user interface. This graph shows how accurately each timer task is
run relative to the time it was intended to be run. It is measured in
seconds.
Timer tasks are scheduled by the server to run at some point in the
future. As only one timer task can run at once and the server may also
be performing other activity, timer tasks always run slightly after the
time they are scheduled for. However if timer tasks run significantly
after they are scheduled this can become noticable through delay in the
user interface.

Timer Task Duration
This graph shows how long each timer task runs for. It is measured in
seconds. If any timer task takes more than 0.5 seconds this is likely
to impact the user interface.

[slim] Re: iTunes Playlists Empty

2005-07-13 Thread patrija

Re: bug 1278. Progress is being made, but no fix yet. I have a hack file
that allows me to play my playlists, but without it I'm DOA since 90%
of what we listen to is Playlists. Lots of testing been going on, so
hopefully it'll get fixed soon.

have you gotten your playlists to show up? I'm having the same problem.
I have a party this weekend end don't want to have to recreate my
playlist (1000+ songs - played on random)
