Re: [slim] Recent SB3 Firmware problems

2011-02-01 Thread russelc

I had a similar experience just after I applied the latest firmware
update to en SB3. In my case the 'Cannot connect to server' message
kept flashing up very briefly once my systen had hibernated, Strangely
it was doing this at completely random intervals. I solved my issue by
rebooting my router.

Hope this helps you in some way.

Re: [slim] SB3 Display Oddity

2011-01-26 Thread russelc

I've had the same issue in the past when I changed routers - see post
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79717.

I eventually found that my router had a corrupted install of it's
firmware, I only noticed because some of the setup options were
missing, and for me reinstalling the firmware solved the problem.

 take over 43 years!

How did you come by them all? Have you bought whole collections of
 other peoples records?

I've never really thought of it like that. I have been buying music for
over 40 years though so I guess it does add up. I haven't bought too
many LP's in the last 10 years or so apart from about 200 classical
recordings and some high quality 180g pressings.

The thing is there was a time when I would happily buy 20-30 albums a
week as I seemed to spend all my free time in record shops - remember
those! Browsing CD's is just no fun for some reason. I guess I was very
obsessive:-)

I have acquired about 1500 albums from friends who abandened LP's in
favour of the silver disc so I guess its not quite so bad as it seems.

By the way I consider my collection as modest compared to some people I
know who have collections in the 10K+ albums bracket, and by todays
standards it's tiny compared to some peoples digital collections.

Oh, and yes I have listened to every single album at least once:-)

Re: [slim] Where are your LPs?

2010-08-10 Thread russelc

I still play my vinyl also and have some 4500 LP's. I even occassionally
still buy LP's. Some of the new 180g pressings are superb quality - far
better then any other medium I have ever heard and that includes early
Decca classical on 1st gen pressings.

I still haven't worked up the courage to even think about digitzing
just those albums that I cannot get on CD :-)

The upside is that I think they still sound better through my LP12 than
any CD player or streamer I have heard including Linn's own mega bucks
items. Having said that it would be nice to get everything digitally
stored if for no other reason than to archive it all. One day perhaps.

Currently my collection sits on purpose built shelves with about 600
LP's to a shelf and takes up the whole of chimney breast alcove.

Mp3tag, add cover art to all tracks and manage my library
through Foobar 2000. Any MP3 downloads I have are managed in the same
manner with the same tags. I then add replay gain though FooBar and
analyse through MusicIP and finally add to the SBS library. I don't add
any non standard tags.
The physical file structure within which my library is stored is
important to me in that I seperate flac from any lossy files I have. I
do not want any library management software playing with my chosen
directory structure or file naming conventions.
I do manually rate music in SBS for use in dynamic playlists although I
still haven't figured out how to sychronise the SBS library with Foobar
2000.

erland;566383 Wrote:

As stated I do use MusicIP but don't export back to it.
I do use iTunes but this is only to get apps onto the Touch and to
allow me to manually put music onto the Touch. I keep the iTunes
library physically seperate from the source files for both SBS and
Foobar. This is because I don't either trust or in anyway like iTunes.
I do keep tracks played in SBS scrobbled to Last.fm so that they can
make more recommendations for new music.

I realise that this is a long winded reply but I think it is an
important topic for us to discuss. I will happily elaborate on anything
if asked.

So really you're saying that the way it used to work, when I only got
the message once, was wrong and that now it's working correctly, when I
get the message every 5 mins! I don't understand why it would have to do
this if the player is in standby.

Sorry but IMHO I disagree - the way it worked before was better and far
less intrusive.

Anyway - the change is related to the new router h/w and not to a new
version of SB code anywhere.

Re: [slim] DSBridge - A simpler way to stream Spotify

2010-06-24 Thread russelc

The problem appears to be related to the latest version of Adobe Flash
Player as noted in this link
https://forum.reciva.com/read.php?3,63319,63319

I can confirm that by removing the latest Flash version my install of
DSBridge works again. This appears to only be an issue for XP users.

However, I cannot figure out from the above link what I need to do to
re-install a previous version of Flash and I don't have any more time
now to spend on it. If someone can figure this out I would appreciate
an idiots guide to reinstalling the suggested previous Flash version
10,0,45,2.

Anyway I hope this helps anyone struggling with this issue.

Re: [slim] Issue with new router and SB3

2010-06-24 Thread russelc

In my OP i stated;

'However, I have since noticed one annoying feature of my new
environment. In the past the SB3 would only show the message Can't
connect to server: ONCE ONLY when the server was shut down, went into
standbye or hibernation, or if wireless dropped. Now I have a situation
where when the server is off or in standbye or hibernation the message
is displayed every 5 minutes (I've timed it). It looks like something
is polling it at this interval.'

By the above I meant that 'in the past' when the player was connected
to the m/c running the SB server and BEFORE I changed my router I only
got the message as the m/c changed state. After changing the router I
get it every 5 mins.

Your solution stops this happening (for which I am very grateful) BUT
not by fixing the issue I related in the OP. I would like to understand
this just because it annoys me that something is happening for which I
do not have an explanation.

[slim] Issue with new router and SB3

2010-06-16 Thread russelc

Hi - hope this is the correct forum for this post.

I have recently changed my router from an Orange Livebox to a D-Link
DSL-2740R and have successfully got everything (Wii, SB3, iPod Touch)
back up and running wirelessly having changed security from WEP to
WPA2. Orange remains my ISP for the next couple of months.

However, I have since noticed one annoying feature of my new
environment.
It looks like something
is polling it at this interval.

I would rather it didn't do this as it is distracting when watching TV
(my SB3 is on same stand as TV). Any insights would be appreciated.

My setup is as follows;

Server = Win XP SP2 with Squeezebox Server version 7.5.0 r30464 (not
24/7)
D-Link DSL 2740R running firmware version UK_1.13. WPA2 enabled, with
firewall switched on (24/7)
SB3 firmware 130
