[slim] Empty Plugins folder (OS X Mavericks)

2015-03-28 Thread snoogly

So i decided to carry out the necessary steps to fix the BBC streams in
the iPlayer plugin. In order to replace the menu.opml file I navigated
to user/Library/Application Support/Squeezebox/Plugins ~ but the folder
is empty!

I have enabled showing invisible files, but still can't see anything in
the Plugins folder. A Spotlight search for menu.opml finds nothing.

Does anyone know where else I might be able to find the plugins?!

Re: [slim] BBC World Service - bizarre connection problem

2012-10-10 Thread snoogly

My bizare World Service problem is that often the news (short news, on
the hour) is often scrambled, with the same clip repeated several times,
speakers cut off in mid sentence. It happens maybe 4 or 5 times a week,
and sounds as if the BBC engineer (or editor) has gone to sleep on the
job.

Very odd ~ has anyone else noticed this?

Re: [slim] 'Can't find address for SqueezeNetwork'

2009-08-01 Thread snoogly

* Do you use SqueezeCenter?
* If so, which version on which OS?
7.3.3 Mac 10.5.6

* Do both players work well with a local SqueezeCenter, assuming you
use one?
Yes

* Do both players have plenty of wireless signal strength, if you use
wireless?
Yes

* Are the network configurations for both players identical?
Not sure how to check this

* If you reboot the problem Squeezebox and select SqueezeNetwork as the
music source as part of the setup, does it still give a problem, or only
when you attempt switch over from SqueezeCenter to SqueezeNetwork?
Still gives a problem

There is a DNS bug in the latest released 7.3.3 SqueezeCenter that
could *potentially* cause this issue (but odd if it only does for one
player and not the other).

If this sounds like it might be relevant try a recent 7.3.4 nightly,
e.g., from here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.3

I'll try that now.

Re: [slim] Music Scan no longer working

2008-05-16 Thread snoogly

Like quite a few Mac (in my case 10.52) users, 7.01 and 7.1 never let me
scan. Is the latest 7.1 likely to cure that problem?

Is the Mac scanning 'bug' a known issue?

Re: [slim] Apple question about signal strength

2008-05-08 Thread snoogly

An Express helped with SB3 reception in my bedroom. At first I tried the
Express right next to the SB, but that only bumped the signal a little.
The real improvement came when I plugged in the Express in the hall
outside the bedroom. Thick concrete walls in my (Tokyo) apartment were
eating signal strength, so it was down to 25 in the bedroom. With the
Express in the hall, most walls were bypassed. Now signal strength is
over 80.

I use a g, not n, network - but I wouldn't be able to use the SB in the
bedroom without the Express.

The Express is no better than the SB at receiving a signal, but
strategically placed it can help push a strong signal to the SB.

Re: [slim] Scanner completes scan in 2 or 3 seconds

2008-04-19 Thread snoogly

Check that a plugin (if you are using any) hasn't gone 'bad'. Turn of
3rd party plugins, then physically remove them from the plugins folder.
Try scanning again. If it works, then something has gone funky with one
of your plugins. Try dropping them back in one at a time (doing test
rescans), until you hit on the bad one.

Of course this may not work, but it could save you a lot of heartache
if it does!

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter rescanning - 150 hours?!!!

2008-03-30 Thread snoogly

Go to settings/advanced/logs and set all the scanning logs (3 of them)
to 'debug', then try the scan again. You should be able to see the file
scanner paused on by looking at scanner.log after the scan.

Another way is to reset the music directory to only some of your music,
and try a scan. If that works, add more music to your directory and try
again. This way you can at least narrow down a dodgy file to a specific
batch of music files. Then look at scanner.log again.

Also, if you have any 3rd party plugins, turn them off, and temporarily
remove them from the plugins folder - then try to scan again.

I would guess (not as an expert, but as someone who has had to resolve
a couple of scanning problems) that a specific file or folder is
causing the problem ~ you just have to track it down!

Re: [slim] Grave doubts about Logitech 'support

2008-03-27 Thread snoogly

OK, so I am eating humble pie and recognise that Logitech support isn't
so different from any other kind of support. I guess it's the basic
principal that a fresh instal is always the best way to start - even
with a complex system like slimserver/squeezecenter.

If being asked to do a clean instal was accompanied by a note that all
server settings would be lost, it might make it less potentially
troublesome. Perhaps advice on how to backup settings (if that is
possible) could also be given before being requested to do a clean
instal. That's what really bugs me ~ a blanket piece of advice, without
a warning that settings will be lost, and no hint as how to back up
those settings.

[slim] Grave doubts about Logitech 'support

2008-03-26 Thread snoogly

I was wondering if Logitech Support has helped anyone resolve a problem,
without having to do a clean install of the software (slimerserver or
squeezecenter).

I contacted them earlier this year with an issue, and they had only one
answer: deletes all traces of the software and do a clean install. As
this would mean losing all the various settings I have done to the
server, and plugins, I really didn't want to do it. So I ignored them,
and managed to find an answer elsewhere. Once someone told me what to
look for in the log files, I tracked down a troublesome file in a music
folder, deleted it, and everything worked fine again.

I got the feeling that Logitech Support either didn't know how to
really troubleshoot a problem (on a Mac anyway), or that they do - but
telling people to wipe everything and start again is easier. I fear the
latter is true, as this time the 'first tier' of support told me to do
just that, without any attempt to track down the problem. I have now
been promoted to the 2nd tier, and low and behold they are saying the
exact same thing - before they have even attempted to find out what the
problem really is.

This kind of 'Support' might be normal in a Windows environment, but as
a Mac user (and very long term slim devices customer) I find it shoddy
and lazy.

Has anyone managed to get real support from them? If so, could you let
me have the name of the support staff who helped you? I am beginning to
wonder if anyone there really understands the nuts and bolts of the
software.

Sorry if I sound riled - but I am. I do not consider this to be
'support' at all.

[slim] Suddenly won't scan

2008-03-24 Thread snoogly

For no apparent reason, Squeezecenter (7.0) suddenly refuses to scan.
When I try to scan, I get the following feedback in Status:

Music Scan Details: Progress information from the previous scan is not
available.

The scanner log shows the auto scan done at 2am 4 days ago (Done
scanning), but does show my recent attempts to scan.

What might be going on

Nothing has changed since then, apart from updating iTunes yesterday
(Mac OSX).

Re: [slim] Suddenly won't scan

2008-03-24 Thread snoogly

Very strange. Turning on debugging for scanner.log is having no effect.
Somehow the scanner.log file is just not being updated, since the auto
scan 4 days ago.

All firewalls and virus scanning is off. I can see no reason why
scanning refuses to work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, before I contact Logitech
support?

(Mac OSX, squeezecenter 7.0)

[slim] Album artwork not showing up

2008-01-19 Thread snoogly

Sorry, but searching didn't help me much ...

In the album view (sc7) only a few album artworks show up. (I am not
linking to an iTunes library.)

Should cover .jpg's be named in any particular way for them to show up?

[slim] Can 'bad' files in music folder cause Slimserver to freeze?

2007-09-29 Thread snoogly

Over the last week or so my Slimserver often freezes - causing both
SB3's to 'lock up'. Only way to resolve it is restart Slimserver.

What could be the possible causes of this? Could a 'bad' file in my
music folder be causing it?

Now my bedroom SB3 is happily connected to the remote base station, and
