Re: [slim] Amazon Prime Music!

2019-09-18 Thread soundcheck

Nothing happened during the last 3 years...
...so we all better dream on. ;)

Guess what. That Amazon message got me also triggered to look up what's
going
on in the (RPI) bluetooth arena.
Because bluetooth or (sh)airplay might still be a viable option.

For now I concentrate on BT.
The are some good news. There's now Sony LDAC support inside
the Linux bluetoothstack. Properly implemented that'd allow for 24/96.
Lossless/HD Audio seems possible.
My Samsung G8 would also support LDAC.

However. "Properly implemented" - that's the key. The whole RPI BT stack
is still chaos territory.
It took me already 1 day to get an idea what's going on and to get my
phone paired.
That's kind of exhausting. I'll keep digging for a while.

The other deal-breaker could be the concurrent Wifi/BT operation issue.
Perhaps that'll be gone on the PI4.

Hmmh.

That's an unacceptable option to me.

1. I'd never go for Max2Play (Nice try to do some marketing)
2. You're leaving the squeeze universe.
3. You need pulseaudio (which is basically a mixer with awful samplerate
conversion) - which would all but acceptable to me
4. I prefer WLAN over bluetooth.

But that're just my 2cents.

Re: [slim] Amazon Prime Music!

I have a workaround to play Amazon Music on squeeze - for iOS device
owners only.

First I activate the shairtunes2 plugin.
All squeezeclients will then be offered as airplay devices on
iPad/iPhone.

Then open Amazon Music App and select the Airplay output device of
choice.

Works great.

Just tried the new (at least over here) Amazon Music streaming service
on my Android device.

Quite interesting since it is free for Prime Members.
If I recall it correctly they grant access to around 1milllion tracks.
Not too bad.

It's just mp3 though. However for backround noise its quite usable.

I'll keep the fingers crossed that one day we'll see a LMS plugin or an
app on mysqueezebox.com.

Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!

2015-01-03 Thread soundcheck

Hi.

Some feedback:

Customized menu settings get lost all the time.
That's pretty annoying.

I'd also appreciate if the playback controls would be visible
everywhere (e.g. also in playlist view)

Beside that the more and more commonly used swipe-bottom-up menu
feature of Android easily
interferes with the Orange Squeeze player controls. Would be nice to see
an intelligent solution
at that point one day. Perhaps introduce a circular control field for
(start/pause) as used in many other
apps (like gmail compose mail)

Keep up your good work.

However. Progress seems to be pretty slow for quite some time now. I
hope the project is not going to die slowly but surely.

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2014-08-16 Thread soundcheck

Hi.

I just realized when starting squeezeplayer it's possible to have two
parallel audiostreams on the output (just happened on my LG G2 when
connected to bluetooth speakers)

Squeezeplayer doesn't seem to recognize that another audio app is
playing.

Other apps like Tune-In just turn the running audio-stream off when
started.

Would be nice to have a function build-in that disables/mutes other
audiostreams.
It should be possible, since it is also done by other audio apps.

Thx.

Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!

2014-04-22 Thread soundcheck

Hi there.

Still a happy user of OS.

I'd like to post one more time a feature wish.

I'm having a huge database. That forces to me use GENRES as first
stage differentiation.

If I open GENRES within Orange Squeeze, I'll find all Artists listed.
If I click on an Artist thumbnail. OS opens all artist related albums on
the next layer down. So far So good.

A real nice feature would be an immediate All Album view/GENRE sorted
by the Artists.

The feature is basically there. At the very bottom of the Artist
thumbnail list, you'll find that All Album thumbnail. It would have
to be selected by default - perhaps via settings menu.

The 2nd best option would be to put that All Album thumbnail at the
top of the list. This way I would have to endless scroll down the huge
Artist list to get there.
iPeng has it implemented this way btw.

If there is option to get this manged from the server side, please let
me know.

Thx for listening.

PS:

I do have a strange behavior of these Artist thumbnails under Genre.
There used to be 4 album arts (max) merged on one thumbnail. Nowadays
only a couple
of thumbnail show a cover art, but the vast majority remains empty!?!?.
Am I doing something wrong here??

Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!

2014-01-18 Thread soundcheck

Orange Squeeze is getting better and better.

I really like latest Home-Menu customization including start-page option
feature.

iPeng made me stick to iOS for a long time. With todays Orange Squeeze
I'll stick with Android.

Though there are still some little things I'd like to see improved.

1. Playlist Window
No controls ( /start/stop/prev/next/vol ) when looking at playlist.
Playing DJ becomes kind of complex
Easier access to to playlist from playback screen would be nice.
(swipe-up/swipe-down for access)
2. Genre
The layer below Genre should show All Albums sorted by Artist
immeditely instead of
grouping Albums/Artist first.

Thx a lot.

Cheers

Re: [slim] ANN: Orange Squeeze 1.3.0 released!

2013-10-24 Thread soundcheck

Hi there.

I'm using Orange Squeeze Preview for some weeks now. I do kind of like
it. Mainly because of the coverart browser. There's nothing else like
that on Android.

Though I do think there is quite some improvement potential with Orange
Squeeze.

I used to use iPeng. Which is IMO still state of the art. By a large
margin.

However, I'm now on Android and Pippin refuses to launch iPeng for
Android. He could have made another fortune. ;)

That's why I would like to express some issues and improvment
proposals:

1. Pretty inconistant layout.

Playback controls general:

Controls you'll find on the bottom bar right, then somewhere else
(playback) inside a field, in another window (e.g. playlist) they are
missing.

Why can't you make the controls visible at the same place all the
time.

This is really annyoing. Especially if you have to access a control
quickly.

I also don't like the two-stage (click the volume symbol and then
access the bar at a (far off) different place) volume control.
Have a look at iPeng. These guys have realized that the key functions
are volume control, start and stop, next and prev. And these functions
require direct access (one-click) all the time.

The Orange Squeeze implementation is lightyears back on this.

Progressbar: You could put the progress-bar somewhere else ( or
introduce an option to turn it off) . It's importance is rather
questionable.
Beside that when pushing controls it easily happens that you even
push the progressbar by accident. This is another pretty weak point.

As a beginning you could e.g. replace progress with volume control.

Note: If you look at the playback menu (landscape), why can't you
list Album, track, artist centered in the right text field!?!? Having it
at the top looks not very nice.

2. Switching menus

The way I have to switch from album-selection to playback back and
forth is inconsistent and annyoing.
You can use the android-back, the top-bar-back (redundant!), and even
the home-menu.
I do consider all this implementation pretty weak. Working with
swipes and zones would be much better.

3. Bars, menus,buttons

The way to access certain areas is more then inconsistant. The home
menu I can access by swipe-right on left side. The playlist I have to
push a tiny button on the top bar now ( Why did you change it to the
worse just recently !?!?)

I do think working with two bars (top bottom) and swipes and
Android controls is overkill. Get rid of the top bar at least. Please.
Keep it simple and efficient.

Settings you can put into the home menu, which is accessible with
swipe-right.
And Back on the top-bar-left is kind of redundant to
Android-back anyhow.

How about introducing more swipe functions?? From playback window
swipe-left gets me to the playlist, swipe-right to the song-selection
(instead of top-bar-left button)

4. Home menu customizations

1. The pin-to home menu function is not working correctly. I can
not remove and add all the items to the menu.
2. I can not change the order of the home menu items. The first
entry in the list is the default start page entry. That I figured out
accidently.
By accident (by pin and unpin certain functions) I managed to
move menu entries around. This way I managed to define my own default
start page ( e.g. favorites)
You might have a look at this strange behaviour. It's probably a
bug. Though I really like to have that home menu and start page
customizable.

5. All Album view

At the end of the and album list/summary view you offer an All
Album view.
That means that I have to go down hundreds of CDs to click that All
Album function, which basically finally lists the albums in a proper
and complete way.

Have a look at iPeng. They put All Album choice on top of the
displayed list for a reason! Please consider to change this.

6. Color scheme

Would be nice if I could change the color of the control bar from
brown/orange to black or something else. I know it's matter of taste.

So this was a first write up. I hope I'll see some changes sooner or
later.

Keep up the good work. With the album browser it's imo still the best
squeeze controller app on Android.

Cheers

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Music-Playback now on ANDROID! SqueezePlayer released to the market ...

2013-06-25 Thread soundcheck

Hi there.

I haven't read the whole thread. Please apologize if below remarks are
kind of redundant.

I've been trying squeezeplayer on my Minix NEO X5. and Android 4.1.1

Some comments:

* It seems that squeezplayer was never intended to work with Android
devices that come with wired ethernet . All network options refer to
wireless only.

* The sound quality is rather aweful.

I'm running Toslink out for the time being. Even my SB Duet over
Toslink sounds ten times better.
I'm wondering if squeezeplayer passes the soundsystem by. I doubt it.
Volume at 100% is e.g. lower than my SB Duet Toslink.
If SP is tight to the restrictions (Android mixer etc) that you'll
find on many flavors of Android devices, this could mean serious
degradation.
Android is not known for good audio quality -- at least without
putting some effort into it.
Afaik Android ( at least some flavors) is limiting the maximum
volume etc. I'm not sure what it does with sample rates etc.

Is there an option to use e.g. audio device with direct hardware
access like hw:0,0 on Linux to avoid e.g. plughw:0,0 and system mixer
??
Afaik some better sounding apps seem to handle this stuff on their
own.

Perhaps somebody has an idea how to do some quick Android audio
tuning. Otherwise I'm gonna install a Linux with squeezelite on that
device.

Cheers

Re: [slim] What should be in the next version of SqueezePad (part 2)

2012-02-05 Thread soundcheck

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83106

Question: What's your highest priority

- More images of your music collection
- More Screensafers
- Better player syncing
- Mysqueezebox.com - Player Switching
- Better Search
- Drag'n'Drop for the playlist
- TrackStat Ratings
- IRBlaster integration
- Big Screen with Album Covers for selection
- Something else

I'd love to see an albumart selection feature similar to iPeng, JRMC,
iTunes, you name it.

If you run large collections, it's so much more comfortable to scan
your collection by looking for album art
tables.

TextSearch is usually not that easy. Out of my 1000 albums I can
hardly remember what searchstring to go for. I'd miss probably 50% of
my collection. If I'd scan the covers more comfortable it'd be much
easier.

With IPeng I manage to have 30 thumbnails on one page. That's great.
Within shortest time you can scan 200-300 albums. Something like that
should make it into Squeezepad.

The pity:

I prefer the overall design of Squeezepad over iPeng.

I' d really like to use it.

However. Because of that missing feature I still use iPeng.

I keep the fingers crossed to find that feature sooner or later.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Re: [slim] iPeng update: Let your Squeezebox get Social

2011-07-19 Thread soundcheck

Just a comment from my side.

iPeng is still my reference SB control from a functionality
perspective.
I don't think it has to fear any competition, neither from Squeezepad
nor from Logitech. Those are just copying that IMO basic feature set,
which is all but user-friendly, especially if your collection
approaches a certain size.

If you'd ask me. I'd say. No I wouldn't need those social media
functions.
Probably I'm not in that addressed target group though.
Lot's of programming effort and money goes into those from my
perspective rather questionable features.

What I'd like to see:

I hope that we see one day a better consistant (dark) theme on the
iPeng interface.
I know, that this is ususally said to be a matter of taste. I wouldn't
agree at this point. GUI style mix is not considered the most
successful strategy for applications to make its users feel well. Yep
there's IMO quite some space for improvement. The mix up of
blue-white, black screen designs and those old style blue framed
pop-ups (taken from 1st generation iPeng I guess), i'd consider all but
consistant.
I assume you had a chance to look at SqueeezPad, it looks really good
and consistant - it just lacks iPeng functionalities. ;) I keep the
fingers crossed that you gonna do something about it.

Obviously a lot of time goes into programming of new iPeng features,
which do not relate to playback and database management anymore. That I
consider a pity.
Bottom line. I don't think those social media things will keep you in
the lead. The wikipedia thing is not bad. Still, fighting the
Googles/browsers etc. won't work out on the long run I guess.

I find myself using very often the browser to enter the html-based
setup dialog of the SB server.
Would be great if I could do all that from iPeng. That's what I also
consider very useful. I could change plugin parameter settings and
advanced
settings, asf from inside iPeng. No need to switch apps.

Off-topic wish:
I'd find it nice if the push2play function of iPeng as it is done on
the iPhone would also be made available on the iPad. By pushing the
album art from the collection-overview layer to start immediate
playback, should also work on the iPad - it could be introduced as a
new feature to be activated under settings. (Shouldn't be such a big
deal)

Anyhow. Keep up the good work. I recommended your App more than once
and keep doing it. ;)

Cheers

Re: [slim] iPeng update: Let your Squeezebox get Social

2011-07-19 Thread soundcheck

No need to defend anything. ;)

I guess I spreaded my message. I don't see any arguments from your side
which would change my mind.

Good to see that you're working on a GUI redesign.

On an iPad you don't want to see a boring blue-white PC like surface.
You want to see a cool shiny control panel. A mix of squeezepad and
ipeng plus a little more coolness or call it innovative control
functions.

P.S: The tap on album works on the iPhone extremely well for me.
I don't see any reason not having it as configurable option on the
iPad.
I'd really prefer a kind of consistent usability of both programs. (as
a matter of fact I got both in use)

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-03-31 Thread soundcheck

Hi folks.

I am playing around with squeezeslave ( 0.9-140 svn pull) on Linux Alsa
1.0.22.1

No idea if below has been discussed before.

2Qs.

1.

Is there a way to assign different names/ids to squeezeslave if I got
more than one slave in the network?

If I run more than one slave ( different machines) in the network they
can't be distinguished and share the same database. This should not be
possible at all anyhow.

Would be really nice to be able to assign dedicated IDs of choice to
each slave in the network.

2. Alsa output

Is there a way to choose between plughw and hw on the output option
-o?
Currently it is not clear what squeezeslave is doing here. I do
understand that -l shows all available outputs - as defined on
asound.conf or asound.rc.

It would be really nice to have a pretty simple output option as done
with e.g. aplay -D plughw:0,0 || hw:0,0.
99% of all Linux player allow that direct routing selection.

THX

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-03-31 Thread soundcheck

@ ralphy.

THX a lot- It works with the MAC address. The only problem is that you
have to rename the player on the server. Otherwise it is called
squeezeslave. Would be nice if I could assign a dedicated player-name
on the commandline.

alsa:
I do understand the generic output approach.
I just wanted to make sure that nothing is routed to plughw if -l says
hw:0.

That also means if I run e.g. SPDIF out (output hw:1,1 on my
soundcard), I would have to create a virtual device in .asoundrc for
addressing the 2nd subdevice. Correct?

Again THX a lot.

Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge

2010-03-31 Thread soundcheck

Hi folks.

Two more Qs.

If I route HiRez stuff to my SBR data gets automatically resampled on
the server to 44.1/16

On squeezeslave this won't seem to work. Do I need to configure
something on the server to make it happen?

Are there any plans to allow HiRez streaming towards squeezeslaves?

THX again.
