Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!

2011-04-28 Thread tktran

To be a bit more specific, do you have any ideas of what kind of extra
functionality you (or other users) would need in a third party app to
be willing to spend $10 instead of using the free Logitech app ?

Erland,

Personally, I have never felt a need for anything more than the
infra-red remote control. I have been completely satisfied using it.
Downloading the Logitech Controller app was out sheer curiosity.

But I think that the most compelling reason for a person to buy an app
to control their Squeezebox, from an portable touch pad device, would
be to have a user interface that is consistent with device's operating
system user interface (iOS, Android, whatever it may be)

So in short, an iOS device should have a user interface which is
similar to iOS's native interface. And probably these users are used to
using iTunes and having its features eg. easy to install app that has
all bells/whistles working out of the box, without having to
install/enable plugins.

I loved your Trackstat plugin, but regular Squeezecenter/Squeezebox
server updates later it breaks, and I gave up after having to reinstall
it.
Features that allow star ratings (ala trackstat plugin), automatic
album artwork retrieval, cover flow, play similar artists/genres/music
ala Squeezescrobbler, retrieval of lyrics, artist
biography/discography, critic's reviews, Youtube links, Facebook
integration (ala Shazam), direct download of music (or synchronize)
to their iOS device.

Perhaps individuals could get together an form a development team,
rather than go at it alone.

Re: [slim] Finally, the best Controller App arrives at iOS!

2011-04-26 Thread tktran

Long time lurker, seldom poster.

I've been a Squeezebox user since '07, but followed it's development
since it was just Slim Devices, limited availability, Squeezebox 3 era.
Having seen the takeover by Logitech, I'm glad they haven't killed it
off or run it into the ground.

IMHO the development of an iOS/Android app is expected, and probably a
little overdue. I feel that although the Sonos is technically an
inferior product, it's marketted and sold far better.

I installed the app on my iPad 2 and gave it a spin. Although it
provides fairly basic functionality, if it's as good as the default
infra-red remote control that ships the SB's, the vast majority of
users have little to complain about. Especially when considering the
price.

A third party app will need to deliver a superior experience and/or
features to stay viable.

[slim] SB3 Crash: Out of FPRAM message

2008-09-04 Thread tktran

Hi,

My SB3 crashes on a regular basis. I have been able to replicate it,
but not able to figure out what is causing it.

Every time the message flashes Out of FPRAM or something similar, and
the screen hangs, the music time elapsed bar hangs, and I am not able
play any more music until I turn the power on/off.

Has anyone had this problem?

I have a funny feeling it is related to playlists of somekind, because
it never happens when I play individual folders, but it guaranteed to
happen if I play Random Mix or play music from folders with .ogg
files and .m3u files.

thanks,
