It's easier than I thought, and discovered by accident. [slim] Editing Existing Playlists
Hi everyone. When I am creating playlists on the web interface, if I want to add a song to an existing playlist I can't really see how to do it. The only way so far, is to load the playlist, then find and add the track, then save as a new playlist. If I happen to use the exact same name, then it overwrites, otherwise it creates a new playlist. There's no list of existing playlists to add to. If I go to playlists first and click add, I get a free text box, so not sure what that's about. The above is not really very good when you hit something on random play you want to add to a playlist, as you have to stop listening, load up the list, find the song and then go back to random again... It seems even harder from the device itself (Boom / Touch / Joggler / Duet / Android), however at least on the web interface would be nice. Re: [slim] Track vs Album Art
Recoveryone wrote: First off when you rip a disk the album art is attach to the folder that the files was created, not each track. From time to time you will find that the rip did not combine the track titles with the album art and you would get no album cover or get the same track name for each track. Now if you D/L music from Amazon or some other 3rd party they do attach the album cover to each track, for the reason many only D/L singles and not whole albums. So don't cause yourself more work then needed, if you are using a Touch you would be able to see if the album art is working correctly. Also get Mp3tag (free d/L ) widely used by many to help catalog your collection and find album art. Thanks, I was looking on a touch at first, and then went to LMS to look further. When you say album art is attached to the folder, I assume you mean the folder.jpg that gets created. I really don't like this, as when I make a mixed tape I can lose the art, when I put certain songs on an MP3 player I lose it. I prefer that wherever it goes, the mp3 file has all its information self contained. Mnyb wrote: Also do a complete rescan of everything not only a new and changed This actually fixed my problem! Why in the album pic you have it listed as a single? and no genre?, but the single has all the proper info with it. I think you may find your answer in how you catalog This was just a single MP3, I have no idea where it came from, I have MP3s going back nearly 18 years... I have a folder full of orphaned tracks, which I may have downloaded to use in home videos, or parties, or any reason really... I was going through sorting them out as they all show with no cover art which looks a little ugly, and some were mistagged. I just add the artwork, correct the data, and save it. This also precludes use of folder.jpg as I have one folder with a couple of hundred of these files. RonM wrote: Ripping with dBpoweramp results in album art being embedded in each track file, as well as creation of the file folder.jpg in the album's folder. Some applications make use of only one or the other; it's best to have both. On very rare occasions, dBp doesn't find artwork and you may have to do a further search. On occasion LMS does not pick up changed art through a simple rescan for changed items. Do a complete rescan and this generally fixes the problem. Yup, as above that worked. I really should have tried that before posting!! it's like the old have you tried turning it off and on again? rule. Re: [slim] Track vs Album Art
garym wrote: yes, but to clarify one minor point, dbpa *can* automatically do both, or it can do one or the other depending on one's settings (embeds only if album art is ticked in the metadata list). My personal process (using dpba to rip) is to create only a single file in the album subdirectory (named cover.jpg with an attempted size of 1000x1000). I do not setup dbpa to embed the artwork in each FLAC file. Then later, I use dbpa converter to create lossy mp3 versions of my files for portable use. In this conversion process, I have dbpa embed the artwork (at a smaller, 500x500 size) in each mp3file and NOT create a cover.jog file in the album subdirectory. This all works perfectly for me using squeezeboxes, vortexbox and windows LMS servers, ipods/iphones/ipads, foobar2000 windows player. Note: I use cover.jpg rather than folder.jpg so that windows programs can't automatically (or behind the scenes) modify/change/replace my artwork. Windows can do this with folder.jpg files (as that is the windows standard), but I don't think it messes with cover.jpg. WMP can be particularly nasty with regard to doing things to one's art that was not expected. Interesting. I use the multi-rip so I get both FLAC and MP3 with one action. I find that the file size and the cover art size have not been of enough consequence given price of hard drives to change them, so I go for best quality I can so that they are future proof. (Just think how your pictures will look on that 200,000,000 resolution 4 screen in 2020!) However I like the idea of the cover vs folder. Is that supported everywhere then? I don't even open windows media players, as they will always do something odd, like try to reorganise files. Another reason I avoid any jpg files at all in my MP3s, is that various players pick them up as files. So my media TV streamer might pick them up. I remember having every movie's cover art appearing in an and amongst my family pictures when doing slideshows... Here we are at the beach, Here we are at the hotel, here's the Terminator etc... [slim] Track vs Album Art
Hi, I keep all my art embedded in the MP3 files, so as I move them around devices they all work. I notice from time to time that a track is missing cover art, so I decided to sort it all out. I went through a list of all tracks with no art by simply searching for all files in windows explorer and looking at thumbnails. I was able to find art, right click and edit ID tag (which is using DBpowerAmp), and add the artwork. Some of them are ok after a rescan, and some are not. eg: this single track If I lost you is a single track, and therefore the albumn is If I Lost You - Single. Normally I tag all the tracks and everything works, however the album artwork is blank, and this means it's blank on all devices too.. Here is the album view. 15579 Here is the single view when i click on the track. 15580 This does not seem to happen every time, I have a bunch of single tracks like this, and about 20% seem to do this. Seems odd that it happens in some files and not others. 2 x Booms, 2 x Players, 2 x Touch, 1 x Joggler, LMS running on Synology D217+ Love it - Bring it back Logitech! wcndave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100906 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] PoE
Thanks, I looked at that first which sort of game me the idea, and as I am networking a new house, I want to get a PoE switch installed. Until then I really wanted to check proof of concept by doing this, and the other thread does not specify the type of power jack that is used. I just can't find the power supply specification anywhere :-( 2 x Booms, 2 x Players, 2 x Touch, 1 x Joggler, LMS running on Synology D217+ Love it - Bring it back Logitech! wcndave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100680 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] PoE
I am trying to power a touch over PoE, and I assume all the devices use similar voltages so I put here in general. The touch has a yellow tipped EIAJ connector, and is 5v. My PoE splitter has a black tipped EIAJ connector for 5v. They look exactly the same. The black one will not fit in the touch  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EIAJ_connector Has anyone tried this before? is there a special adapter one needs? Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play
Don't think I am ever going to go through and tag them all, and anyway, i make up different genres based on mood, so when I come up with 80's relaxing classic rock I don't want to retag everything... Thanks very much for the help though, since I tagged all the non music to something and excluded from random play, that works great. Thanks! [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play
I have 2 scanned folders that contain FLAC and MP3 files. I also have a 3rd folder that contains childrens music, childrens audio books, educational materials, christmas songs and various other resources. I would like to be able to select these to play when I wish, however I don't want them to play when I do random play, which I do a lot (it's a great way to listen to music you'd all but forgotten about..) Is there any way to be able to to exclude a dir and sub-dirs from random play? Alternatively, I would look at using browse folders for just these tracks, however browse folders only includes folders that are scanned... is there another way? mherger wrote: Is there any way to be able to to exclude a dir and sub-dirs from random play? Not dirs, but genres: just tag your files appropriately, and you can easily exclude kids etc. from the mix. Alternatively, I would look at using browse folders for just these tracks, however browse folders only includes folders that are scanned... No, the Browse Music Folder menu even often is used to play things which have not been scanned yet. -- Michael Ah, so the select genres to include in mix is saved and remembered so each time I do random play it will use the same genre selection. Regarding the folder, I have two scanned folders which are all that appears when I select Music Folder. How do I get other folders to appear in there? Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play
Thanks, but I don't understand how that would help - probably just being dense... I have folders 1. FLAC Music 2. MP3 Music 3. Other Audio I would like that 1 and 2 are in the library, but that I could browse to 3, in order to manually select the files. Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play
Yes, I saw how the first solution could work, however it requires that I remember to tag all my material as it's added. The second solution suggested seemed a lot easier - however I did not think it could be done. If it can, that would be great! wcndave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99715 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

JJZolx wrote: You can't really do that. Everything that LMS plays must be in its library. If you exclude 'Other Audio' from your media folders, you won't be able to get to it by browsing the Music Folder. Ok, that's what I thought in the first place. I just tagged all the files in those folders to kids and will exclude that. I also noticed that as i add files, their genres are not auto added, so a lot of new music has been excluded from random play. That's the problem with everyone using their own genres, I now have a few hundred...I'd quite like 20 or so! wcndave's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29445 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99715 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Exclude Directories From Random Play
To be honest when i first ripped my collection of ~500 i did not have the energy or patience for tagging, and hoped the tagging of the ripper db would be ok. Now I've added some itunes, amazon and others, It's getting a bit mad, but I really don't use genres. Hence I did not think of that as a way of hiding holiday and kids music. What would you recommend as a good tagging tool? I have dbpoweramp for ripping, and mediamonkey for library management.
