I am using the “Browse on Spotify” (spotty) feature. This feature
integrates Spotify and local libraries in LMS 8. It works very very
well. 

I have a problem that I would like you to help me to solve. I have been
using LMS from my iPad with iPeng for several years. The problem is that
iPeng is not compatible with “Browse on Spotify”. I talked with the
author (pippin) and he told me the problem was not easy to solve and he
had to do some important changes. I also use LMS from my Mac and
Squeezeplay and “Browse on Spotify” works OK.

My question:

Do you know if other programs for iPad as Squeezepad work with “Browse
on Spotify” feature?

Been happily using SqueezePad for quite a few years now. I sincerely
hope this is not abandoned. :) 

Here are some app feedbacks, I hope it’s not too late.

P0[/B]: NONE, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY INTUITIVE, WELL DESIGNED APP, AND NO
LEARNING CURVE IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH SQUEEZEBOX/LMS. I ENJOY USING
THIS A LOT!

[B]P1: UNNECESSARY VOLUME ADJUSTMENTS DURING PAUSE/RESUME WHEN PLAYING
BACK ON IPAD.

When using the ipad itself as playback device, SqueezePad goes through
this routine of lowering the volume to 0 on pause, and tries to restore
it on playback. This is not necessary. Pause/resume should be a simple
toggle with no change to volume. This is how most music apps works, and
generally what people expect.

The issue is the volume restore during resume doesn’t work most of the
time, and I have to manually increase the volume to what it was before.
This lessens the enjoyment of using the app.

P1: KEEP CURRENT DEVICE (AKA LAST DEVICE IN USE) WHEN APP IS OPENED
AGAIN.

When I open SqueezePad again after a period of inactivity, it first
shows the last device that was active (for example, the iPad player),
this is good! But, within a few seconds, it refreshes the devices list
from LMS, and changes the device to the first one in that list (ie, not
the last device anymore). To continue operating on my last device, I
have to explicitly select the device again.

It would be better if after getting the new device list from LMS, it
doesn’t select the first one, but re-select the current/last device in
use.

P1: CLOSE PLAYLIST VIEW WHEN TAPPING ON OTHER PART OF THE SCREEN.

When the playlist side window is open (by tapping the tab on the right
edge of the screen), you can interface with the playlist, great! But, if
you tap anywhere else not in the playlist pane, the underlying page gets
the tap, and changes to full screen view (and hiding the playlist). One
has to tape the home button at the top edge to return back to previous
page.

This is not optimal. It would be very natural to tap somewhere else on
the screen to close the playlist pane. The current behavior also means,
the only way to close the playlist view is by tapping the small playlist
tab again. This again lessens the enjoyment of using the app.

I think all of these are pretty simple changes, for the author. ;)
Anyone know if he is still active on this forum?

iOS 14 will have asked you whether you want to grant SqueezePad access
to your local network the first time you used it. If that setting is
"off", you answered "no".

“local access.” This was not on and when it isn’t on, the app can’t

Material Skin is a plug-in that gives you a web interface working
perfectly on both computer and mobile.

It’s actually better than iPeng I bought for $10.

Use Safari on iPad, browse to web interface, select Add to home screen
and you’ll have a free app that works just perfectly!

Last week, all was fine. I do not know why, but suddenly track selection
and playing has become rather strange;

1) I can only select a track by holding my finger on the icon and
waiting for the Play Now, Add to End etc. Options to appear.
2) The track then plays normally but simply stops at the end. The next
track in the album or playlist is not played (I have play all songs in
list selected in the settings of Logitech Media Server v9.2).
3) Although, whilst playing a track, I can move the progress slider
along, the time changes but all audio is lost.
4) Selecting the Play Next Track icon just starts the same track from
the start.
5) I cannot select a track just by tapping on it - I have to hold my
finger down as in (1) above.
6) Not sure if these issues are generated by Squeezepad or LMS but
things changed without me knowingly making any alterations.

LMS v7.9.2 (running on Mac)
Played over wifi (UPNP) direct to digital amp.
IOS v13.2 on IPad
Same symptoms whether I am playing tracks from my own media library
(held on the Mac) or via streaming service Qobuz.

Have tried all the settings I can think of in Squeezepad (e.g. Add to
End, Play Next etc.) and in LMS ( Defeat destructive play, Play all
songs in Directory) etc.

Any ideas ?

same for me: Tidal and Spotty would be really nice to have in the main
menu.
but most important: your tip to activate airplay by pussing the home
button and than swipe to the right is not working anymore under ipad pro
and IOS 13
I would love to see an extra airplay button down at the left bottom of
the screen.

Spotty is a plugin for LMS running on your computer.  MySB.com has no
plugins and does not offer unsupported plugins/apps like Spotty.

I might be missing something, but when I went to mysqueezebox.com I
couldn't see any app entry for Spotty.

Each of the players had a 'menu' section, to reorder menu items, but
that didn't match what SqueezePad was showing.

Any further clarity?

You need to go to mysqueezebox.com, then login, then go to the music
services.
For every music service you can configure per player whether it should
appear on the main menu. 

You might need to restart SqueezePad afterwards and also clear its cache
in the settings menu, for the changes to take place.

Trying to find out if Squeezepad menus can be customised?

For example, the Deezer menu item appears on the main menu, but the
Spotty menu item is listed under "My Apps" and I can't figure out how to
also get it to appear on the main menu.

It doesn't appear to match the player menu settings I use for the
players, so looking to see what controls the Squeezepad menus, and can
they be configured.

I'm afraid an iPhone App won't happen for Squeezeboxes anymore.

I have migrated the App to Sonos though (SonoPad) and there you will
also find an iPhone App (SonoPhone).
SonoPad ranked #1 on the German App Store in the music category just a
day ago, right now I'm still #14 :D

Off topic, butplease make SqueezePad available for iPhones. After
~10 years of fighting with iPeng I have still never got my head around
the crazy navigation, and I end up swiping left/right/up/down at random
working my way through the different screens, never being able to repeat
the process twice. SqueezePad is a dream to use...but only on my iPad,
not also on my iPhone.

as written before, SqueezePad focussed on landscape mode.
I never found a design, that could fulfil my design targets (big cover,
simple menu, browsing, not overloaded) in portrait.

why are you not considering iPeng. That's the most popular iphone app
for controlling squeezeboxes. It can also be it's own Squeezebox player.

Closing down open apps doesn't help.

The iPads are not jailbreaked

Immediately before the problem occurs I may just be searching in
squeezepad. 

Anyway, it makes the app unusuable.

The problem started when I got an upgrade from you on Apr 16th. Can I
get the old version somehow? I can't get hold of IOS 11 in the UK - my
iPads say I'm up to date with IOS 10.3.3

Next time it happens (which will be today!) I'll clear the background
apps one by one and see if it helps.

on iOS 10 anymore.

What types of iPad are you using? Jailbreak? What did you do in the App,
before the lags are starting? 

Personally I don't think this has to do with the keyboard, but anything

How do I disable cover arts that are displayed in front of the files
while browsing my music folder (not browing any databank, just plain
folder browsing)? I guess it is in the server settings? But where?

Here is the deal: I recently switched from an old server running LMS 7.7
or something to a new one with 7.9 and ever since I have those stupid
cover art before the file name when browing my music folder. This is
especially annoying since some files have a cover art and some not...

Yes, I see what you mean: it is iOS that is generating the error
message, not SqueezePad. But that's a bit confusing, since these files
don't play on any of my devices, including LMS directly (via the
AlloSparky hardware, obviously) into powered speakers. No iOS involved
there!

What I meant was that SqueezePad is displaying an error message:

Playback Error
Audio playback failed
Parse bites failed. err: optm
1869640813

You're suggesting that this message indicates that the LMS transcoder is
not recognizing the files, or the file format?  As I mentioned in my
original post, the files play fine when the hard drive is connected to a
laptop. And both LMS and SqueezePad are able to display the tags and
other information about these files.

This is not an error of SqueezePad, but something seems to be wrong with
your audio-files.
At least LMS transcoder is not able to read it correctly.

If you have any program, that is still able to open them, I suggest to
save them again.

Can anyone help me figure out why certain ALAC VBR files are no longer
playing? I have LMS 7.9.1, running with Max2Play on an Allo Vanaplayer.
These files have played in the past. The cover image displays, and the
files play without problem if I plug the drive into a laptop. I'm
posting on this thread because one of the few error messages I've been
able to find has displayed in Squeezepad, though it's clearly not a
Squeezepad problem. All the files on an album have this problem, on
three different albums (that I've found so far). The message is this:

Playback Error
Audio playback failed
Parse bites failed. err: optm
1869640813

When I try to play through Slimplayer, the log file displays:

[18-01-24 17:07:13.2291] Slim::Player::Squeezebox2::statHandler (150)
Error: 00:17:f7:01:02:ca: Decoder does not support file format, code 0

Can anyone interpret these for me? Sample rate is 44.1kHz, sample size
16bits. Other ALAC VBR files are fine! Thanks in advance!

Can you tell me which option you used (there seems to be 5 in LMS 7.9) ?
I think I've tried them all but nothing seems to have changed.
On LMS 7.7 you could simply tap a song to play it without being asked
about where to add to a playlist, or play next etc. When the track
finished playing it would simply start playing the next one (from a
playlist or an album for examle).

I want to keep this old functionality without an additional menu keep
popping up.

After Radio Paradise has startet streaming in FLAC, it is now usable for
my mainstereo. But it does not work on my ReadyNas server, so I have
installed a windows version on my PC.
Here my question. Why is switching between two different LMS so clumsy
??? I always end up with the good old Squeeze Controller to switch
library.
There is one line under "Music" Switch Library
Why is this not an option in Squeezepad ? and iPeng too for that sake...
??

Michael, I am having one issue though.

When I select "Artist" (as per the below) it does not show up on my
SqueezePad interface, also "Library View", which I have
De-Select/unclicked, continues to show up.

Any ideas?

Also is there a way to Add/Subtract from the quick link Menu found at
the bottom of SqueezePad?

I'm wondering if any of you guys were able to control Tidal from
squeezepad and make it streaming into squeezebox touch. Currently I
cannot do that, even if tidal is working fine on the touch and also I
can control it from an android phone with Squeezer. Weird fact that on
Squeezepad tidal streams fine only on the iPad as unique device
connected, while not showing the touch connected. Obviously i can
control my library from squeezepad and stream in on the touch.

yes sure makes sense.  your application I feel is still the best end
user application for LMS.  at the same time Roonlabs and Bluesound are
making incredible strides.  I think we in this community are going to
have to start asking ourselves some tough questions and figuring our a
way to provide better support to persons like you, Michael, Philip and
the other developers if we want LMS to be a long term solution.  I talk
about this in another thread recently.

I'm having a problem with Spotify Top Tracks.  I didn't see any mention
of this problem in the forum, but I probably missed it.  If I pick an
artist, there is an entry "Top Tracks".  If I select it, I see the list
of songs as expected.  From there I can add a song to the playlist. 
However, if I do a long select on "Top Tracks", I just see a popup with
"Top Tracks" with nothing under it.  I expected to be able to see an
entry for "Play All".  I am running server 7.9.0, but also saw the
problem on 7.8.  

I assume the issue is the menus on the server.

Any work around, other than adding the songs individually?

I have been "Opening Server Settings" via my Ipad Air for years, now (as
in the last few months), this feature no longer works and just opens to
a Blank Screen.


Maybe an uninstall && re-install of the SqueezePad app would help? I 
just checked this on my iPad, and it works as expected.

"Google Images" works differently in "Select Target Site" with the new
IOS.

In the old IOS it would show pictures of the artists, so you could
easily scan the next image, with a swipe of your finger.

The new IOS does NOT allow this anymore.

Is there a way to fix this?

I have been "Opening Server Settings" via my Ipad Air for years, now (as
in the last few months), this feature no longer works and just opens to
a Blank Screen.

I can see that correct Server IP at the top, but the rest of the screen
is blank.

Does this on both my Ipad Air running IOS 10.2.1 as well as my old Ipad
Mini running 9.3.5.

Tried updating to the latest Nightly Build of Media Server, but no
change.

What happened and suggestions?

(I am running Squeezebox on a Raspberry Pi, but again have been doing
this for years!)

I used to use Irule and squeezepad, and the return button in the top
left corner did work. After not useing irule for a year or so, i wanted
to set up a new remote for playing music, but now the return button
doesnt work any more. I have noe problem starting squeezepad from irule,
and the return icon is present in the top left corner, but looks a bit
"greyed out", and does not work.
I am on ios 8 on my ipad.

Does anybody have a clue ?

TBH. I never understood why we handled it this way with SlimBrowse vs. 
SlimMenu menus. But here's the mapping I've been using in the Controller 
App to match menu IDs to icons:


myMusicArtists: 'artists.png',
myMusicAlbums: 'albums.png',
myMusicGenres: 'genres.png',
myMusicYears: 'years.png',
myMusicNewMusic: 'newmusic.png',
myMusicMusicFolder: 'musicfolder.png',
myMusicPlaylists: 'playlists.png',
myMusicSearch: 'search.png',
myMusicSearchArtists: 'search.png',
myMusicSearchAlbums: 'search.png',
myMusicSearchSongs: 'search.png',
myMusicSearchPlaylists: 'search.png',
globalSearch: 'search.png',
myMusicSearchRecent: 'search.png',
homeSearchRecent: 'search.png',

Those icons are available from LMS as eg.

http://yourserver:9000/html/images/artists.png

Resizing parameters can be applied.

RandomPlay is a bit different, as it's a plugin:

http://yourserver:9000/plugins/RandomPlay/html/images/icon.png

You could add these mappings to the app without the need to include the 
icons in the app itself.

Thanx all for your input RE: Album Art embedded vs local.

I too have started using large album art, as it looks SO much better,
when view on an iPad Air OR better yet, an iPad Pro (I'm not
there...yet)

So, in closing, looks like I am going to start updating my flac files,
with better larger art, so music and art stay together in one file.

Hope I don't experience too much slow down when playing (my average art
size is 1K-2K)

Wow never noticed this myself ,the hardware players works fine and
squeezelite too ?

Double,the file size ? I have mostly Flac files ? Maybe on low rate MP3
? I usually only embedd JPEG art .

In this forum there has been some advice to always use jpeg not
uncompressed images like bmp .

But decent album art can almost double the size of your files plus some
streamers (including some squeezebox software players) can have issues
if you have a huge chunk of metadata to skip over before the actual
music starts.

Yes that works fine ,but in the end IMHO it's better to have the art in
the file , then it never gets lost in any context now or in the future .
And it works when moving files to media players USB sticks etc .

There is not only album art . I have several albums with trackart ,
different pictures for every track . Some digital media releases has
this nowadays , makes sense to me . In this case LMS uses the picture in
track 1 as album art .

You don't really need to embed the larger artwork if its already in your
album directories as "folder.jpg" or "cover.jpg" among other formats.
LMS (and many other programs) will use this just fine. So you can just
delete the embedded art. You can do this with a few mouse clicks in a
batch manner (use something like mp3tag:  load up all the files, right
click, choose extended tags, then delete the embedded art from all the
filesdone!

I was pretty sure Bluetooth was NOT a transport Mechanism option, BUT I
would have thought that LMS would have allowed you to select the order
upon which the Album Art is picked up.

I have 1.4TB of Flac Files, so I guess I'll slowly start embedding
the bigger/better Art Images into each File.

Its the LMS server that picks the artwork during scan , just remove the
small embedded ones or embedd the large artwork ( what i do )

I have BOTH emedded and Local Art in each Album Folder in my Music
Library.

The embedded art is of low/old resolution, the Local Art (Folder.jpg) is
much Higher/Newer Resolution.

Is there a way to CHANGE the order how Art work is picked up, First
Local Art Work, Second Embedded Art Work?

If so, I would be very grateful to know

I have a Raspbery Pi running LMS (Max2Play)

Currently for SqueezePad to control the LMS running on the Pi, BOTH need
to be using the same Wifi.

Is it possible to use Bluetooth as the transport mechanism to "control"
the LMS via SqueezePad.

I know the answer most likely is "no" but I have so many scenarios were
I bring the Pi to locations WITHOUT Wifi and this would help me
tremendously if a Bluetooth was an option.

Just thought I'd ask and LOVE my Squeezepad.

I bought the Pi, case, and the DAC from the hifiberry site.

They have various cases, but of course you need one that's compatible
with the L/R audio outputs from the DAC.

I built mine with various options from this page

The Pi is the Model 2B

The software was from here:
https://sites.google.com/site/picoreplayer/home

You literally download it, use a simple tool to burn it on to the SD
card (so it's a bootable image/card), plug everything together, then off
you go.

Really couldn't be simpler.

Just make sure you remember that if you use a wifi adapter with the Pi,
it has a different IP address to the ethernet! :) I forgot about that
and caused myself a few minutes of head-scratching...

I am thinking about doing this. Do you have some good links to the
directions on how to build? I am particularly interested in getting a
good looking case to make it look decent. Also, did you use the latest
version of the Pi? Or an older version? I wonder if the responsiveness
of the latest version is better and if there are any other advantages.

That's a pity for other users Stefan, because I added the album year to
the Album Name tags a long time ago. If you would have granted my
request it would have forced me to change the Album Name tags throughout
my collection of 8.000 albums ;-)

Sadly true, although I recently built a SB receiver using a Raspberry
Pi, and the HiFiBerry DAC.

Took (literally) about 10 mins, couldn't have been simpler and
works/sounds really good.

It finally feels like there's a future for SB now (as the hardware was
proving harder to come by).

Highly recommend anyone to build one - it's really easy, and cost about
£70 (including the Pi, DAC, a case, SD card etc)

Technically it is possible, yes :)
But I'm afraid since Logitech stopped producing SqueezeBoxes a long time
ago, I'm not too heavily investing into feature updates of SqueezePad.

Thank you, that was it. I recently changed server from NAS to raspberry
and with it I changed LMS version from 7.7.3 to 7.8.1... what an
annoying feature to add on default because I sure did not actvate that
myself.
