Re: [slim] Delete Genres
I've recently found in my LMS library a number of "orphaned genres" - a genre that appears in the library but the default web interface shows the content as "Empty". Android app "Squeezer" on my phone also shows 'Empty', but Material Skin web interface on my PC lists albums (and not 'Empty' as in the default web interface). I've fixed the tags in the albums that Material Skin showed, but was surprised that the genre content would be different in the two web interfaces. Is that normal? And just so that I can be clear about what's going on - is it correct to say that if a genre appears in the library, somewhere in the library there must be a tag with that name? Current LMS is "Logitech Media Server Version: 8.0.0 - 1595835082 @ Mon Jul 27 10:20:00 CEST 2020" Thanks for any wisdom! Interesting discussion of Genres --- I have some music that has multiple genres -- the LMS recognizes that the track has multiple genres (For example a track might be tagged 20s and Ragtime, or maybe 20s and Blues My question is there any way to search on multiple tags in advanced search ? is there a compound search available ? The only part that I would see as a bug is when the tracks that created "Pop" and "pop" genres all get bucketed under just one of these. The songs should be bucketed matching "pop" or "Pop". This makes the GIGO obvious to the user that they have tag cleanup work to do and which tracks need the work. Re: [slim] Delete Genres
Are you saying that you would like to see "Pop" and "pop" treated as 2 totally different genres? Yes. Garbage in - garbage out. In most parts of LMS this already is the case. You can consider it a bug that you'd now get two genres, but not the correct list. Unifying will always fail some corner case. If we didn't even try, you'd at least see what's wrong. If the tracks were assigned to the genre that they matched then it would give the user a clearer indication of which tracks need tidying up. Exactly. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If the tracks were assigned to the genre that they matched then it would give the user a clearer indication of which tracks need tidying up. If the case-insensitive duplicate was not created then no tag cleaning needed by the user but arguably would allow "incorrect" tags to persist. Re: [slim] Delete Genres
I suspect that _createGenre in Schema.pm (or the database table definition perhaps) needs a check on genre with different case already existing and only add if not present. I'm a little surprised about these reports, as I thought we got rid of all attempts of normalization at some point (7.6?). There must be some code left still doing some case mangling. But I'd rather remove it than add more of it. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Have now changed the tags in the other half (in fact was two different albums - 1 Afro Beat and the other (alphabetically later) Afro beat). Doing another clear and rescan So - I think I have found the issue that made me see the same problem and will resolve it by tidying tags. The underlying problem might never be fixed though given there is an easy way around it. Next step is to see if this explains the original poster's issue. Re: [slim] Delete Genres
I've just been through the "Afro Beat" tracks ... and half were tagged (MP3 ID3 TCON) as "Afro Beat" and half as "Afro beat" ... so leads me to think that LMS treats the case of the genre as significant when extracting the details and creating a Genre table in the database (I have not checked that there is one) but when assigning a genre to a track in the database it does a case-insignificant check and always finds the same one (perhaps the first created is returned first) ... "A Capella" is a recognised numbered ID3 genre but perhaps OPs tracks are tagged with "A capella" in text and also the number ... resulting in similar issue. Re: [slim] Delete Genres
My only other one with differences only in case are "Rock/Pop" and "Rock/pop" ... the first has tracks in and the other does not. So my suspicion is towards some sort of normalisation going on - but not all of the code knowing that it happens. I'll do a clear and rescan later to see if either of them disappear and look for a tool to display the genres from the original files as they are really stored.
