Also not much help, but 1. Try disabling all plugins, reboot server 2. Try to get some logs and post them, maybe the scanner is getting hung up on a strange file 3. Mike, you should give us a few more clues - what version of Squeeze Server are you running ? Are you also using Music IP ? Has this started happening after updating Squeeze Server ? Wirrunna, Thanks for your interest and help. I am currently running 7.5.0, but this has been going on for at least a year. It wasn't until last week I took the time to find out what was hammering my hard drive. On both PCs, it's scanner.exe. I am not running Music IP or any plugins. (I've been using Squeeze for about 6 years.) I haven't noticed any particular pattern; the thing just takes off and runs. I notice it running maybe once a week, but it may run more often. I don't think it's a scanner virus because I just rebuilt my laptop from scratch (format c:) about a month ago. I'm surprised I'm the only one seeing this, since both of my PCs are affected. Mike, the only thing I would point the bone at is the Rescan Timer that you have already checked is off. I am not aware of anything else that would kick off a scan. You don't have some sort of garbage collect program that would clear SB cache that runs auto magically? If the SB server loses it's data base it will rebuild (kickoff a scan). What type of scan is kicked off? The web control Server Settings/Information tab should indicate whether it is a full scan or just a look for new and changed music, but if it is just a look for new and changed music it shouldn't take long. All I can suggest is to email support or try 7.5.1 (or even 7.6.0) and see if it goes away. [slim] How do I stop scanner.exe from running?
For some reason, scanner.exe arbitrarily starts up and runs on its own with no input from me. I have a large library, so this drags my (Win XP) PC to its knees and I can't get any work done. (It also makes me nervous to hear my hard drive pounding away with a live Internet connection.) This activity occurs on two completely separate systems with Squeeze Server installed. The only way I've found to stop it is to kill it from Task Manager.
