Re: [slim] Inexpensive wi-fi receiver

2011-02-07 Thread bobkoure

Have a look at squeezeslave as well, particularly if you're looking for
a 'headless' device.

The price for used receivers (the no-display part of the duet) is
higher than what you'd expect, given that it's used electronics.
Logitech doesn't seem to be making them available any more (no idea if
that's temporary) and there's more demand than supply.

Have you looked into Home Plugs, e.g. devolo? I struggled with wireless
(house is over 4 floors) for an age, tried moving the hub around etc.,
then discovered them and haven't looked back. 100% reliable, fit and
forget, plus you can fit a wireless repeater to make sure you get a
solid connection on your iPhone.

Cannot recommend them enough.

[slim] Inexpensive wi-fi receiver

2011-02-03 Thread jkdufair

Hi -

I'm running a Squeezebox Server on my Mac and have a Squeezebox Boom
that I love, connected via wi-fi. I control them via iPeng on my
iPhone.

I have three rooms in which I already have stereos/speakers. I'm a
technically savvy software developer. What is the least expensive way
to expand my system to the stereos I already have via wi-fi (that is
reliable)? Look for some Squeezebox Receivers on eBay? Is there some
implementation on a plug computer? A used iOS or Android device
running some sort of receiever? Squeezeplay running on something?
Other ideas?

Thank you!

well, really all the above. the most rock solid would be to find some
SB hardware players (used SB3, new or used TOUCH). But you could run
SqueezePlay on almost any computer and that could be your player. I
think Truel has a player working running on a SheevaPlug (see the long
thread on squeezeplug)
