Re: [slim] New Wireless Router Recommendations?
I had a Linksys combined modem/wireless router and found that it overheated with heavy wireless activity (i.e. streaming to multiple Squeezeboxes) causing problems both with the internet connection as well as local networking. So I replaced it with a simple ethernet modem (free from my ISP and tucked away out of sight) and a Buffalo AirStation WHR-HP-G54. If you don't know this device it's a high-power b/g (not n) router. Not made any more unfortunately. It's so good I bought a few more used ones from eBay and configured them as bridges to give me 100% wireless signal pretty much everywhere -chez nous-, plus a spare. The AirStations are rock-solid and you can flash Tomato or DD-WRT firmware as well if you're that way inclined. I have a mixture of stock firmware as well as these other two but don't notice any performance difference in my setup. Just my recommendation. Re: [slim] New Wireless Router Recommendations?
I've only used WRT routers for the last years, and they have all worked splendidly with my Squeezeboxen. I can recommend Linksys/Cisco E3000, E2000, and E1000, even WRT54GL if you don't want 802.11n, all depending on the depth of your wallet. Personally, I install 'DD-WRT' (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index) on all my routers, but for normal use it's not necessary. -- Soulkeeper 'Bug 17797: Updating wiki.slimdevices.com' (http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17797) Soulkeeper's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New Wireless Router Recommendations?
I've had a Zoom X6. It pretty much worked fine except for a annoyance where one of my PC's would disappear from the workgroup. Then when I got a Nook Tablet, the Nook refused to stay connected. Initially replaced the Zoom with a Actiontec gt784wn. Found that there was no ability to do DHCP address reservation even though you could do port forwarding?? The thing that ended up really nixing this was when I found that external ports were not stealthed and couldn't be. Actiontec support said they had nothing in the works to address these problems. Finally I've ended up with a Netgear DGND3700. This one costs a little more, but has Gbit ethernet, a/b/g/n wireless with dual concurrent 2.4 - 5MHz wireless. I'd read about some issues on the ADSL connectivity, but that has been corrected with the recent firmware update. I've not lost internet with this ADSL/router yet. My Duets work fine and all other devices on my network are happy. Just for grins I put my laptop on the 5 MHz n network with the Duets on the g network and with the server on the laptop I can play music with no trouble with both the server and Duet being wireless. -- w3wilkes 2 Duets - 1 for upstairs and 1 for downstairs w3wilkes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It is a combination modem/router - sorry I should have been clearer. To replace it, I'll either need another ADSL modem/router or an ADSL modem plus a wireless router. I'm inclined to prefer the single box. -- Zoltan Zoltan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9998 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New Wireless Router Recommendations?
I recently bought a Cisco E4200. I have a Touch hardwired but use the wirele for my laptop and 2 internet radios, iphone and an Archos 43. I use the Squeeze controller on both the Iphone and Archos. It works very well. On my old Linksys router I was getting drop outs. My laptop connects at 450Mhz. I stream movies from netlix via my dvd without problem. -- vs27 vs27's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41655 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] New Wireless Router Recommendations?
My wireless ADSL router has been showing signs of flakiness recently. Today it seemed to spontaneously get stuck in some sort of initialisation cycle and I had to turn it off and on again a few times before it settled down. I have had it a while and it was not expensive so I am thinking that it might be time to buy a new one while I still have time to research it, rather that waiting for it to pack up completely. Obviously my primary concern is that it is compatible with my Squeezebox devices - comprising a classic, a Boom, a Radio and a Touch; also my iPod Touch which I rely on for iPeng as well as using it a lot in its own right. I would be grateful for any recommendations (or advice on what to avoid!).
