Re: [slim] Next product I want from SD er Logitech: SqueezeVideo
I don't expect that Squeezebox Server is able to handle video itself, not yet. There are nice video streamer out there with HDMI, DVD/BlueRay, playing videos from USB and network share, plus play audio form UPnP/DLNA. And that's the point, when I have my Squeezebox Server running I don't want to deploy also UPnP (i.e. Twonkey Media Server), but rather use the existing Slimserver. Where is the ultimate Squeezebox player embedded in a Video Streamer, DVD BlueRay would be a plus ;-) -- Metazargo Metazargo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38404 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62047 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Next product I want from SD er Logitech: SqueezeVideo
Look at SageTV line of products. The philosophy is very similar to that of Slim (server to stream, client to do the playing). They have hardware client and software client. Transcoding of video takes place when the format is not supported by the client (older MVP boxes) or the client is connected over internet. The server software is expandable; there are many plug-ins (STVs). And, besides media server functionality, it is actually PVR too (it was PVR from the beginning). I would love to see the two (Logitech/SageTV) to create a common product! -- ymilner ymilner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1370 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62047 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'll need a full review if you get one. :) I don't really think that it would replace my SB3 as I like the simple and quick elegance of it. I think they would go side by side and I do have one hdmi port left on my receiver ( 2 if I get rid of my dvd player). Thanks for pointing this out, I had never heard of it. Re: [slim] Next product I want from SD er Logitech: SqueezeVideo
I have noted this before in other posts, I am a strong believer in the TViX player. Just like I think the SB is the greatest thing in audio, the TViX is great for video. You can do full Blu-Ray quality 1080P playback on the 6500 (sigma 8635) and you can do fairly decent h264 playback on the 4100 (sigma 8623 - but has been discontinued). It will play an ISO file just like you put a DVD in a player (they call it DVD Jukebox). The 6500 currently can't handle BluRay menu structure - it can only play the files if you rip them. The OP makes some good points. All of the media players available have horrible GUIs (except XBMC - but it can't do 1080P). It would be fantastic to have a hook into the interface. It shouldn't be a big deal as I think the players could easily be open source. The TViX is based on a Linux kernel, and the code is available at the company site - so it is actually open source. I just don't think there are too many developers working on it though. I really think a critical mass is building for streaming video players as I am accumulating a lot of AVCHD files from my HiDef camcorder, and not every video player can handle AVCHD (my TVIX 4100 has no problems). People are going to want to stream their home movies, and in my opinion that is the driver that will push this technology to the mainstream like the SB. I can't help but wonder what nvida's ION will do in this area. -- hoosier hoosier's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13116 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62047 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Next product I want from SD er Logitech: SqueezeVideo
Ok, the next product I want from Logitech streaming media division formerly known as SlimDevices is... SqueezeVideo. Ethernet/Wireless in. HDMI 1.3 video out. - component/svideo analog video out? SPDIF/2ch analog audio out - maybe 5.1 analog out? High Bit Rate codec passthrough Good DAC if analog audio outs. Use the latest Sigma Designs SoC that does all latest formats including H.264 Tight integration with SqueezeCenter. NO BUILT-IN GUI on the box!!! Let the Squeeze remote do the job of running the GUI and SqueezeCenter generate it. Its sole function is to select files and play them. Let someone else do the recording just like Squeezeboxen let other systems ready the content. And, MOST IMPORTANTLY, API to allow PVRs or any other software to integrate to it for driving playback via IP interface just like on Squeezebox. For reasons I can't fathom all the current video players coming out are all monolithic GUI/Players with no API for integration. I appreciate that Sigma wants its driver code help proprietary, but there is no reason not to build an IP interface to permit commands to be given to the block of code doing the playback. -- Eric Carroll Transporter-Pass Labs X2.5-Bel Canto Evo6 Gen II-Paradigm Signature S8 SB3-Bryston 3B SST-Paradigm Reference Studio 60 v.4 SB3-Kingrex T20-Paradigm Reference Studio 20 v.4 Eric Carroll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9293 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=62047 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
