Re: [slim] Problems acquiring maintaining connection to server
if you're having buffering problems, it is not likely related to the use of 7.6.x. There's something else going on. I doubt 7.7 would solve this issue for you and I wouldn't recommend using it yet as your main server (I only use 7.7 for a bit of test on my office machinenot where it really matters to me). My advice is to get the server wired, then this removes any wifi issues. If you still have buffering after that, then more diagnosis will be required. Also, do what you can to get both your players updated to the correct firmware. not sure if that is an issue here, but it can't be good. -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Also, have you used something like netstumbler or vistumbler to see what other wifi networks are nearby and the channels they are using? You should use a channel that is not in use nearby if possible to prevent wifi interference -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I'm not having problems with 7.6.1 or 7.6.2 or 7.7.0 on WIN7(64) or vortexbox (linux) setups. And as long as you can connect a "server" computer back to the router via CAT5, that is fine. ethernet connection back to the router is just as good as being "next" to the router. -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop > SbS 7.6.2 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.6 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Problems acquiring maintaining connection to server
Yeah, I used to have it wired, but we moved our office around, and now the main computer/server is in a room that I screwed up and didn't bring cat 5 to. I am probably going to have to rebuild one of my old carcasses into a server and stick it in another room with wired access. Can't really move the router though as the cable entry will be hard to relocate. All that said, do you see a problem with the SS version and firmware versions on the various machines? BTW, besides the WOL issue, I am now having lots of 'rebuffering' issues ... could that be a symptom of this bass-ackwards setup I have? -- Inscrutable Inscrutable's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=50614 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91042 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Problems acquiring maintaining connection to server
Ideally it should be the other way around wired server ? what if server goes to sleep wifi may be disconnected ? Player can send WOL (wake on lan) to wake a sleeping server but that only works if the server is wired, there is almost no wifi cards that supports WOL. So if the server goes to sleep or powersave your players will unable to wake it up. You could use saturate the wifi bandwidth with other duties on the server machine. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. [slim] Problems acquiring maintaining connection to server
OK, running 2 classic SB3 off a Win7 PC server. Seem to always have problems connecting to server after a power down or sleep. Was running 7.5.4, then updated to 7.6.2 ... that caused a continuous 'rebuffering' every 5 or 10 seconds, so rolled back. The SB3's have two different firmwares - one is 133 the other 137. Is there a fix? What would the most stable server and firmware versions be for this setup? Also was thinking of adding a Duet or Touch to the mix, adn will that chnge the answwer?
