you're a genius. thank you very much :-D can now use my archos 604 wifi as a remote control. will have a play over the next few days and post back up to say how i've got on. in my very limited playig so far, i would say that it's hard to beat the original remote though -- little_scrote little_scrote's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9650 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30964 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

it says "the address is not available from this machine". DNS problem? Try to open http://123.123.123.123:9000/Handheld where you replace 123.123.123.123 by your server's actual IP address. -- Michael - http://www.herger.net/SlimCD - your SlimServer on a CD http://www.herger.net/slim - AlbumReview, Biography, MusicInfoSCR ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

well, that was all pretty easy. after looking at all the help resources and forum etc, i expected to have more difficulty than i did in setting the squeezebox up. i csn very happily say that it was a completely painless experience and i love it. the user interface is so simple and intuitive, it's superb. the only things i don't like are that the power supply cable intereferes with my DAB aerial (easily moved), and that the squezzebox does not have a detachable foot and slots for wall wall mounting. getting back on topic, i tried this with my archos 604 wifi, but no success :-( Michael Herger;170496 Wrote: > > i'll report back on how well it works as a remote in a couple of days > > hopefully - if i can get it all up and running. > > Try http://yourserver:9000/Handheld for a skin optimised for small > screens. i thought that might be the case with syncing. if it's a deliberate tactic by slimdevices to make me buy another squeezebox, It's not. i'll report back on how well it works as a remote in a couple of days hopefully - if i can get it all up and running. Try http://yourserver:9000/Handheld for a skin optimised for small screens. Though it features Opera I doubt it will like Touch... what i also wanted to ask (but maybe a separate thread would be a better place to do so?) You're right. But I'll answer anyway :-) is, can i setup a playlist so that both squeezebox (in my kitchen) and archos (in my lounge) can play the same tracks at the same time (for a party)? Syncing is only possible between SD hardware players and less reliable with the Softsqueeze. -- Michael - http://www.herger.net/SlimCD - your SlimServer on a CD http://www.herger.net/slim - AlbumReview, Biography, MusicInfoSCR ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I wrote the Nokia770 slimserver skin code and I'm pretty proud of how it's turned out thus far but, believe it or not, I'm in complete agreement with the previous posters. Slim's IR remote is what I use to control my squeezeboxen about 99% of the time. Works great, it's responsive, does the job. Managing playlists and viewing cover art are the drawbacks of the IR remote, but those drawbacks don't outweigh the ease of use provided by the IR remote. Price tag is nice, too. I see the UI endgame for me being a GUI, always-connected, touchscreen that sits close to (or is part of) the squeezebox, handles cover art, visually manages playlists, is silent, and is not as obtrusive as a full-size LCD. That product doesn't really exist right now (aside from the $12K Sooloos money pit), which is what drew me to start working on the Nokia 770. The 770 should be considered a first-generation device (even first in its class), and while loaded with "wow", it's not ideal as a slimserver controller. I will say, however, that the device drove some new thinking into slimserver skins, particularly with using AJAX for a more responsive user experience. That bodes well for the future. I'd also like a knob on the squeezebox, but of course I've said that before... cheers, #!/ben -- bklaas "the Nokia770 skin guy" bklaas's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30964 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I have used my wifes Palm TX to control slimserver. It works OK, but the browser doesn't cache, so page switching is pretty slow. Otherwise, it works great.
