I also have the DG834N and find that the SB is not happy if the wireless
mode is set to anything but 'g & b'.
The SB will connect for a few seconds then drop, then connect, drop
etc. etc.

Try changing the mode to 'lowest' values.

I'm sure it is a problem with the router rather than the SB :)

You can read the MAC address from the back of the Squeezebox and enter
it manually into the allowed devices table on the Netgear admin pages.
I did this for my Squeezebox and a PSP when I was only allowing certain
devices to connect. I've since changed to a BT Home Hub to get higher
download speeds, so that's all from memory.

Thanks Kevin.

I'll give it a go tomorrow night and will post if it works, just in
case anyone else has a similar problem.

Thanx..

The current firmware version for SB2/3 is 64 and there have been quite
a number of bug fixes since firmware 48... I don't know off the top of
my head whether any of them relate to your DG834N, but in any case, this
would definitely be the first thing to address.

Regarding the signal strength, the actual value of the signal strength
doesn't really matter that much in most cases, but if it's bouncing
around wildly that usually means you are experiencing RFI (possibly
from 2.4GHz cordless phones, microwave ovens, or overlapping wireless
networks). If this is the case, please see this guide:
http://faq.slimdevices.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=2&id=91

Oh, one other thing. Under view current settings, make sure that the
MAC address shown there matches the one printed on the label on the
bottom of the unit. If it doesn't, you can press the right arrow on
the remote to change it back to the factory assigned number.

Thanx for the quick reply!

I bought the box from a UK broadband equipment online shop.

I'm currently not at home, but when looking through the "view current
settings" section last night it showed firmware version as 48 & the
wireless connection was fluctuating between 75% & 85%??

Does that make any sense in relation to my problem?

I will happily see if updating the firmware will work, but just thought
i'd throw these points in too!!!

2006-09-27 Thread kevin

It sounds as if your SB has not actually connected to the network, but
thinks it has. This happened sometimes with older firmware versions of
the SB2/3. If possible, I'd recommend connecting via wired ethernet and
connecting to your SlimServer to perform a firmware upgrade, and then
try connecting wirelessly again.

If the unit in question was purchased from a reseller (especially
overseas) the likelihood of this solving the problem is very, very
high. This is mostly due to the fact that overseas distribution
channels are inherently 'laggy' for lack of a better word, and the
firmware on your Squeezebox may be out of date.
