I agree that the duet was designed as a set, and receivers sold on their own were intended for additional rooms. So a receiver was never intended to be standalone. In a way, it's like a Roku streamer. They were intended to only work with roku remotes, but people wanted integrated "smart" remotes, hence the roku 3/ultra (with IR), which I have, because I want one harmony remote to control everything. I don't want to use two remotes. I imagine Roku's early models had a similar design philosophy to the Duet. Maybe if there had been additional generations of the receiver, there would be IR again, I steer the conversation way off topic, sorry :o Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115905 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

They are especially nice for members of the household/guests, because they are easy. Press the button next to "Watch TV". I think the 650 was about $70USD years ago. I see them now for about $20 - 40 on our side. Re: [slim] Remote key not working
You can also use any remote with the Touch/Radio that "speaks" the nec IR protocol. You update the /usr/share/jive/jive/irMap_default.lua file with the "new" codes sent for each button on the alternative remote to the jive action(s) you want. A patch installer file can be used to modify the mappings, which makes it simple to reinstall after a firmware upgrade. Unfortunately, it's not usually easy to identify what protocol a remote uses unless you already have it. I have a box of old remotes, 7 or 8 of them and only the one from an old Popcorn Hour A-100 sent nec codes. 'A picture of the remote' (http://forum.flirc.tv/uploads/monthly_2016_02/popcorn-hour-remote.thumb.jpg.74419983b1bf7736a19bcdd5304f27b7.jpg). Here's my config for that remote. I use it on one of my 2 radios as they are in the same room setup as a stereo pair. Code: -- IR button name to IR code for Syabas Popcorn Hour A-100 remote control irMap = {} irMap["name"] = "Popcorn Hour A100" irMap["map"] = { [0x20d3609f] = "arrow_up", [0x20d350af] = "arrow_down", [0x20d3c23d] = "arrow_left", [0x20d3807f] = "arrow_right", [0x20d3906f] = "menu_home", [0x20d30af5] = "play", [0x20d32ad5] = "pause", [0x20d3a05f] = "add", -- Source [0x20d348B7] = "rew", -- Previous [0x20d3b04f] = "fwd", [0x20d38877] = "fwd", -- Next [0x20d3728d] = "volup", [0x20d34ab5] = "voldown", [0x20d38a75] = "mute", [0x20d3d827] = "0", [0x20d3827d] = "1", [0x20d3c03f] = "2", [0x20d342bd] = "3", [0x20d3a25d] = "4", [0x20d3e01f] = "5", [0x20d3629d] = "6", [0x20d3aa55] = "7", [0x20d3e817] = "8", [0x20d36a95] = "9", [0x20d3b24d] = "sleep", -- Suspend/BT [0x20d352ad] = "power", [0x20d312ed] = "favorites", -- File Mode [0x20d3f00f] = "search",-- Setup [0x20d3d22d] = "menu_playlist", -- Info [0x20d36897] = "shuffle", -- Angle [0x20d3ea15] = "repeat", [0x20d3f20d] = "now_playing", -- Title [0x20d322dd] = "size", -- Eject [0x20d3c837] = "brightness",-- TV Mode [0x20d3ca35] = "browse",-- Menu [0x20d340bf] = "arrow_right", -- Enter [0x20d332cd] = "pause", -- Stop [0x20d3e21d] = "arrow_left",-- Return [0x20d39a65] = "arrow_left",-- Delete [0x20d35aa5] = "dead", -- Caps/Num [0x20d3da25] = "preset_1", -- Time Seek [0x20d358a7] = "preset_2", -- Audio [0x20d31ae5] = "preset_3", -- Subtitle [0x20d39867] = "preset_4", -- Zoom [0x20d3fa05] = "preset_5", -- Red [0x20d37887] = "preset_6", -- Green [0x20d33ac5] = "dead", -- Yellow [0x20d3b847] = "dead", -- Blue } Anyway, just something to keep in mind as the supply of slimdevices/logitech remotes dry up and/or die. I had the same problem with one of my Touch remotes, couple of keys not working. I bought one of these progammable remotes - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263268664186 You do of course need a working original remote to programme it. You can use different remotes to programme specific keys. I used 3 of the keys to control speaker on/off and volume, the rest control my Raspberry Pi/Jivelite screen. You also need a good memory as some the assigned key legends are not all that intuitive! :D Works great, cracking remote, sits flat on my desk where I spend most of my time, it doesn't move rock or wobble when pressing a key. 37188 +---+ |Filename: remote programmable.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37188| +---+ *LMS server/study player - LMS 8.3.0 *Pi4B 4GB/NanoSound ONE case/pCP 8.1.0 - 75K library, playlists & LMS cache on Sata SSD (ntfs) *Lounge* - Pi2/pCP 8.1.0 > HiFiBerry DIGI+ > Topping E30 > AVI DM5 *Dining Room* - Echo Show 8 *Garage* - Squeezebox Touch > Edifier *Spares* - 1xSB Radio, 1xSB3, 6xRPi, 1xDAC32, 1xCORE32 kidstypike's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10436 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115905 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Remote key not working
If you have cleaned the landing area of the keys with a pencil eraser, maybe a bit of deoxit, and it still doesn't work, but looks ok, perhaps the carbon on the key itself has deteriorated. If you wanted to, since you have more than one, swap the keypad to see if the problem is the pcb or the keypad. If it is a certain key(s) on the keypad, and you wish to spend a little $ to descend further into the rabbit hole, carbon conductive paint is available to "restore" the conductive properties of the pad. Thanks for explanation I had a go at other remote and even attempted using solder to restore trace.. It worked as you described.. At least couple of traces I tried.. The pcb slightly got cooked so maybe I applied too my heat it too long... Anyway sadly this time repair wasn't successful... Even when multi meter beeps with every via.. Few buttons are still not responding... I've noticed a lot more of corrosion on this pcb compared to other one so perhaps this "went into" chip itself.. Not sure but I gave up.. I got now 2 working ones and one broken. Frankly I'm using material apk 85% of time anyway... Wire wrap wire works real well for those jumpers if you have any #26-#30 laying around. Just mentioning wire wrap might date me :). Since it's single strand it allows you to shape the jumper, and being small it's not likely to get in the way of anything. Also if you wanted to attempt a repair with just solder and a small tip, the solder will only stick to the exposed copper, so if you used an exacto knife to scrape away the coating exposing the trace that you expect to be broken, you don't have to be real precise with the iron, the solder will only adhere to the exposed copper. It might look like it blobs over other traces, but as long as they aren't exposed copper you are ok. You also mentioned the "holes" corresponding to problem areas. The holes are "vias" and they are basically a copper plated hole that allows a trace on one side of the board to the other (assuming 2 layer board for simplicity). So if you suspected a via is bad, scrape a bit on each side, maybe scrape the hole with a drill bit, and blob the solder through it. Nice fix! I digress :) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115905 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Remote key not working
OK so this is probably worst repair job ever [emoji23] but it works.. It was as suspected faulty pcb track/trace whatever proper name... It didn't show obvious break but it was kind off faded.. Little dot in other place which I assume was break turned out to be fine.. This is too tiny with my soldering skills to properly fix so had to improvise and weird things turned out to be working :) I might attempt to fix other one too. It is very common for one button, or an area to fail, possibly because of a spill. a pcb trace failure is possible, but it should be visible under a magnifier. Also when using a multimeter for checking traces, realize there may be a conformal coating over them (but not the button landing pads). You need to use sharp meter probes to pierce the coating to test. You could try hunk of something conductive (like copper solder wick) and press onto the button in question spot to see if the ir functions trigger. This might indicate a problem with the carbon on the bottom of the silicone. Again, I could rummage around and fine one, maybe two...who knows, I have all sorts of parts :) Jim Redrum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115905 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Remote key not working
Weirdly 2 of my SB Touch remotes recently developed this problem.. One has not working next and sleep, where other previous and back arrow. I had a look inside to do usual remote clean and possibly foil trick but it seems that pcb tracks started to fail... I checked with multimeter buzzer and there is no connection to chip form faulty buttons.. Don't think I'm skilled to fix that narrow track and doubt there is other magic fix. I bet your remote suffers from same problem if it's only particular button not working.. BTW I have checked on other devices to rule out infamous power supply failure 3x Squeezebox Touch, 4x Squeezebox Radio, Squeezelite (RPi 3B with HiFiBerry DAC+Pro on OSMC), Material Skin Apk, Squeeze Commander, Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 with Material Skin (Docker in DS218+) Jaca's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58187 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=115905 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Remote key not working
if you mean the little hand held remote similar to all of the other ones (tv, etc) laying around... often you can open the case and clean it. The buttons consist of interlaced copper traces on the pcb board, and the silicone pad (the button) has a carbon deposit on it (usually carbon, I think?). When pressed, the carbon shorts the interlaced traces, giving you a press. all sort of stuff can be happening when they don't work, dirt, spills, age (the copper can oxidize)try to use a pencil eraser on the copper pad locations to buff them up a bit, then basically wash the silicone pad (carefully where the carbon is). Also, take a look at the case that the buttons protrude through and make sure they aren't gunked up which might cause a button to stick. I have had other remotes that "don't work" where I discovered a button was stuck, preventing everything from working If all of that fails, I might have one somewhere I can send to you, not sure, I'd have to look. Are they the same as the Radios? I really don't use them. [slim] Remote key not working
Hoping Joe Muc or someone else knowledgeable might help me. I have a Touch remote that works except the Now Playing key which does not function(no response on Touch when using button). Tried the obvious, changing the batteries and trying it on another Touch. What are the correct troubleshooting/repair steps for this or is it just a dying remote.
