As soon as tablet apps came out, the controller was done. I haven't used mine in many, many years. Plus the Duet-Controller combo was exasperatingly temperamental, at least at first, which is why I decommissioned them at the time. I am sure the Duet by itself makes a competent (if un-glamorous) player these days. ...pablo Server: Virtual Machine (on VMware Workstation) running Ubuntu 18.04 + LMS 7.9.1 System: SB Touch --optical->- Benchmark DAC2HGC --AnalysisPlus Oval Copper XLR->- NAD M22 Power Amp --AnalysisPlus Black Mesh Oval->- KEF Reference 1 Other Rooms: 2x SB Boom; 1x SB Radio; 1x SB Classic-> NAD D7050 -> Totem DreamCatcher + Velodyne Minivee Sub Computer audio: workstation --USB->- audioengine D1 -> Grado RS1/Shure 1540 pablolie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3816 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

When trying out Philippe's latest SqueezeAMP updates to support a display I was struck by the urge for a Family Portrait! So here's Grandpa Slim, two of his grandchildren from different branches of the family, and cousin Joggler :-) It's amazing how well they all get on. In another family, gramps might well have ended up in a 'legacy' home. ;) [image: http://www.cjh.me.uk/MyPhotobucket/cache/DIYHifi/Family%20Portrait_1024.jpg] chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

At launch it was the first of a kind, and the concept STILL beats anything else out there. I don't know, because I've never been tempted to look, but can you get a Sonos player to hide away behind your domestic amplifier so as to integrate into the hifi you've already spent your money on? Or one with a touch screen interface? Or to run on a cheap-as-chips Raspberry Pi? Or on your phone? Or in perfect sync with an Airplay speaker? Squeezebox is just so versatile. Ok, so you can't buy a Squeezebox that's integrated into an Ikea lamp - whoop-de-do :-) chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Respecting the heritage!
Sonos? I have 2 Play1s and a Beam. The Beam is basically just used as a TV soundbar. Hardly ever turn the speakers on ... because I hate the smartphone app. Sonos have virtually abandoned the PC controller (and never offered a linux version). The CR200 Sonos controller is good (but likely to be obsolete in the near future) Meanwhile, my SB system just keeps on going - so flexible. The only thing I miss is a Pocketcasts plugin! Agreed - I didn't have any real problem with the Controller - just didn't need what it did. But my receiver was quite "fragile" and frequently dropped the signal, especially for higher bit-rates. Re: [slim] Respecting the heritage!
Well done you! I also scored a SLIMP3 some years ago because I wanted the complete line-up. I've got a silver SB2 for the garage system, an SB3 (Classic) lurking in a cupboard somewhere, a few SBTs dotted around as my principal streamers, plus a brace of Radios and an elderly Boom. Just missing an SB1 (no real loss) and a Transporter (nice but too expensive). Must dig out my SLIMP3 and put it next to my other piece of audio jewellry - a Revox PR99 MKII - just great to look at and remember how it was in the bad old days . . . [slim] Respecting the heritage!
My newly acquired SliMP3 arrived today - what a thing of beauty! [image: http://www.cjh.me.uk/MyPhotobucket/cache/DIYHifi/SliMP3_640.jpg] I've wanted one of these for a while, so jumped in when this one came up on eBay. It wasn't an instant 'plug and play' addition. It goes to show how things have moved on in what seems like such a short time. - No wireless, so I had to find an ethernet cable and a spare socket in a nearby switch - This thing only plays MP3s, so I had to install Lame on my pCP server (one click!) - The only outputs are single ended RCA/cinch. My amp has been in use for almost a year, and in that time I've never used the analogue inputs - not even tested them till tonight. And they're balanced, so I needed to dig out my adapter cables. Apart from that - plain sailing! Objectively it's not a patch on a pCP RPi with a Joggler screen running Jivelite, but I love it. It's where it all started! chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
