I am experiencing the same issue having just got my SBC. Looked on the

been any? Does anyone have any workarounds as happening to me a lot and
spoiling my enjoyment of the SBC? :-(

I think the SBC is still a software release or two away from living up
to its potential. Mine continues to be unstable, and I have spent more
than enough time trying to get it to work reliably. At least now it's
usable, but still displays the blue wireless icon too often despite
excellent wireless coverage and despite the fact SB3s have been working
flawlessly in the same environment. I quickly relegated to SBC to
bedroom listening station duty, where I don't have to deal with it that
often. A tad expensive for that, though.

Re: [slim] SBC r2448 less stable ?

2008-05-22 Thread advocaat

Hi,

I have the same odd behanviour of loosing connection.

* When you set the Controller down and it loses connection (blue wifi
icon) is it going to sleep and waking up? Or is this happening in its
charging cradle?

I have the controller always in the cradle during night. In the morning
the controller has the blue wifi icon, controller still in the cradle

* Is the server being shut down and then restarted at a later time? Or
is the server going to sleep/hibernate?

Server is PC always on.

* When you upgraded to 7.0.1, did you install on top of 7.0, or did you
do a clean install after removing 7.0?

7.0.1 on top of previous release

* When the icon is blue on your Controller, what is the color on your
Receiver?

I use it with SB3 and the SB is off showing clock.

Hope you will find the problem soon.

Re: [slim] SBC r2448 less stable ?

2008-05-22 Thread Letten

I have a ZyXEL router and hope You can sort out the bug about poor
connectivity already reported on ZyXEL routers.

But in the days after the may 14. it definatly felt as if it got a lot
worse. Before that I was using SC 7.0.1. from may 8th. (controller
version I don't remember) things were OK but not perfect.

For a few days I had to reset the router numerous times because the
router crashed when the controller was trying to connect. After I
re-installed r2448 on the controller I havn't been forced to reset the
router - but I still loose connection from time to time (btw.
Powersaving is off).

Mostly when I experience the problem the controller get's reconnected
after i short while, but then it often dosn't see the reciever/player
even though it (the player) is connected and playing music!!!. The
wireless symbol on the controller looks fine, and it ask's me to
choose player but the list is empty. Then I have to control the music
from SC until the controller finally sees the reciever/player.

/Letten
Sorry if my english isn't perfect, but I bet it's better than your
Dansih ;-)

* When you set the Controller down and it loses connection (blue wifi
icon) is it going to sleep and waking up? Or is this happening in its

It has only ever happened when it is charging in the cradle and only
after it has been left for many hours over night.

* Is the server being shut down and then restarted at a later time?
Or is the server going to sleep/hibernate?

No, the server runs 24/7 and doesn't sleep or hibernate.

* When you upgraded to 7.0.1, did you install on top of 7.0, or did
you do a clean install after removing 7.0?

I installed 7.0.1 on top of 7.0 and then later installed 7.0.2 the same
way.

* When the icon is blue on your Controller, what is the color on your
Receiver?

I had the blue icon issue for the third time today, the Receiver had a
white icon.

When it happened again this morning I did a little investigation and
discovered that the networking was still working on the SBC (I has
assumed before that it didn't have a connection when in this state). So
I ssh'd into the SBC, killed jive and then ran jive again. Once I did
that everything was working fine.

Would it be any help to make a SBC in this state available for remote
access ? I am happy to do that if it happens again.

Re: [slim] SBC r2448 less stable ?

2008-05-21 Thread PVM

Hi all,

I might be barking up the wrong tree but I think I know what the
problem is. If you are using a PC or laptop to stream your music from
and you switch off the PC or laptop while controller is connected to it
then you have lost connection.

If you connect controller to Squeezenetwork before switching off your
PC or laptop then it will boot up into squeezenetwork straight away. (I
think).

I have had my Duet for a few weeks now and my wife thinks I have a
mistress the way I talk about it. I love the fact that it is fallible
as it gives me something to ponder over and challenges my limited
knowledge and intelligence. If the truth be known, most of the people
on this forum who understand that this is an evolving bit of kit love
its idiosyncrises (I think I spelt that wrong) because it represents a
challenge.(I also play music through it sometimes). Can't wait until I
can connect a 3.5mm bluetooth transmitter to my controller and connect
to my Sony DR BT50 headphones out in the garden.

Hope the info I have given helps

I too have a dedicated hardware for SC so I'd be very surprised if it
was losing connectivity. If it did it should attempt to re-establish
connectivity.

In addition, I often listen to Slacker as the last thing before going
to bed. In the morning connectivity to the SC is lost (blue icon) and a
power cycle of the controller is required.

Hi there. I'm pleased to see this getting discussed here. These kinds
of issues are precisely what we need to hear about when people run into
them. Just to let you know, our QA department is investigating these
reports but so far has not been able to reproduce them. That may mean
we simply need more information from those that are seeing this.

A couple things maybe you can tell us:

* When you set the Controller down and it loses connection (blue wifi
icon) is it going to sleep and waking up? Or is this happening in its
charging cradle?

* Is the server being shut down and then restarted at a later time?
Or is the server going to sleep/hibernate?

* When you upgraded to 7.0.1, did you install on top of 7.0, or did
you do a clean install after removing 7.0?

Let us know. We will continue to keep a close eye on this.

1) I don't remember the Controller losing connection when I set it
down. I've only seen this happen over night but I'll check when I'm

2) No, the server is up 24 hours a day.
3) It was an install over 7.0, so not a clean install.

It's only the controller which is losing connectivity after inactivity.
As long as I'm using the controller there aren't problems either. The

Hi

I'm definitely seeing something similar to you and it's VERY
irritating. I've not had the the controller rebooting itself but every
morning the controller shows the blue wi-fi icon and it makes no
attempt to reconnect with the SC. Only a reboot fixes it.

What is particularly odd is that I don't use the system during the day
(about 8 hours) and when I use it at night, all is well. However after
6 hours of sleep the system goes into this weird state. It seems
something in particular is happening over night.

This when the music scan happens and the SC is running on a dedicated
XP box.

Is there a setting I've missed?

I'm running 7.0.1 r2448 on SqueezeCenter Version: 7.0.1 - 19705

There is no scanning involved when mine does it. And for the record I
don't find it annoying, as it doesn't happen every time I leave the

I haven't had any ghostly reboots since I reported them yesterday.

Re: [slim] SBC r2448 less stable ?

2008-05-18 Thread Letten

Same here. I was using 7.0.1 (from may 8th) and only had the occasional
lost connection, mostly on the controller, not good but I was hoping
for better firmware. But now it's almost every time I use it, and as if
it wasn't bad enough, it even takes down my router (even my laptops
won't connect). I've had to restart my router 20 times this weekend!!!

What's going on!

If this dosn't change for the better very soon it's going back, I've
already wasted too much time on this.

There is no scanning involved when mine does it. And for the record I
don't find it annoying, as it doesn't happen every time I leave the
remote for a a few hours and it has only happened twice in the last 4

I have to politely disagree with you here. Your statement reminds me of
when Steve Jobbs was demonstrating the NeXT operating system and it
crashed. Without missing a beat, he pointed out how quickly the system
rebooted.

There is a problem. The problem is that the controller should either
not lose connectivity or should attempt to recover connectivity with SC
once it is lost. This was not the behavior with the SC 7.0 release.

I have had a SB3 for over 2 years and love it. On its strength and the
support I have received from SLIM Devices, I have purchased the DUET
and until now it too has been excellent.

The problem needs to be clarified and then corrected.

Do you really believe that I was saying that it didn't need to be fixed
?

All I said was I didn't find it annoying. Sure if I knew that it would
behave like this forever then it would be hugely annoying. But I know
that the problem will be found and fixed. In the meantime my life will
not fall apart and the Duet is still an excellent product that I
recommend to everyone I speak to.

Hi andynormancx

My apologies if I misunderstood your tone. I will blame it on an
absence of caffeine in my blood stream and too much travel.

Fingers crossed it's repaired soon.

[slim] SBC r2448 less stable ?

2008-05-17 Thread andynormancx

Is anyone else finding the Controller firmware r2448 less stable than
the previous one ? Over the last three days since my Controller updated
itself, the following things have happened:

- twice the SBC lost its Wifi connection after being left in the cradle
for several hours and couldn't reconnect without a restart (it was
showing a blue wifi icon)
- twice it has rebooted itself while it wasn't being used, no error
message it just suddenly restarted

I hadn't seen it do either of these things on other firmware versions
since I got it two weeks ago.
