Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
I've just sat down to put some music on, and I noticed that the volume setting for all my players are much lower than they were when I switched them off - some at zero. A snippet from the log file is attached. It looks to me as though the volumes were all normal at 22:13:58.5485 yesterday evening, but 6 seconds later they all got set to lower values, apparently by iPeng. The messages that make me suspect iPeng are of the sort: Code: [21-03-30 22:14:04.9091] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2339) Request: Command [7c:9e:bd:28:42:24->mixer volume] from JSONRPC (Dispatchable) [21-03-30 22:14:04.9095] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2343)Param: [_newvalue] = [-1] [21-03-30 22:14:04.9099] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2343)Param: [_p3] = [ipeng:1] [21-03-30 22:14:04.9112] Slim::Control::Request::notifyFromArray (842) (prefset server volume 0) [21-03-30 22:14:04.9122] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2339) Request: Command [7c:9e:bd:28:42:24->mixer volume] from JSONRPC (Done) [21-03-30 22:14:04.9127] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2343)Param: [_newvalue] = [-1] [21-03-30 22:14:04.9130] Slim::Control::Request::dump (2343)Param: [_p3] = [ipeng:1] Am I reading that correctly - does 'Param: [_p3] = [ipeng:1]' mean that the preceding mixer volume command was issued by ipeng? Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
On a few, very rare occasions I have heard spontaneous changes in volume while listening. What's much more commonplace is that I will notice a player is silent and discover its volume has been set to zero. Background: I have eight players that are almost always synchronized. They are hardly ever turned off, even when not playing. Three of them are connected over ethernet; the other five are on wifi. All of the wifi players use the Airplay bridge. Two of the wifi players have volume control enabled. All the other players are locked at 100% volume. So only two players out of eight actually experience volume changes. Sometimes I find that one of the players locked at 100% displays 0 volume, although it continues to play. I am reasonably confident this has happened in Material, but I don't know if the false 0 volume has appeared in the default interface. Other than using Airplay, I avoid Apple products, so ipeng is not a factor. LMS 8 nightly running on Raspberry Pi OS. Mostly virtual players, occasionally with SB Radio, Boom or Classic. I'm by no means sure that iPeng is implicated, and the last thing I want to do is point a finger without justification. It's possible, for instance, that the commands I think I'm seeing are actually LMS updating iPeng in response to a volume change that was triggered some other way. That's why I'd be really keen for someone with more idea about what the logs show to take a look at my log file. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

chill wrote: > Have you seen player volume dropping to zero during playback, or was it > already at zero when you started playback (making it the former case)? Hello again - just jumping back into this thread. I've personally not seen the volume drop to zero during playback. I believe it's predominantly when turning the player (SB Touch as part of a sync group) back on, but I can't say for certain that the player was always off, sometimes I'm lazy and leave it on pause. All I can say is that when I come back to the player and press play (via the LMS app) I notice the volume is zero. I was going to say I don't have ipeng but I realized I actually did on a very ancient ipad. The app is never used, but the ipad was on. I just uninstalled ipeng just to see if that does anything. Was your log captured by using player.sync at debug like you mentioned earlier in the thread? Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
I'd appreciate the opinion of anyone who has experience with log files. I just had the spontaneous volume reduction happen again, this time while streaming Greatest Hits Radio on a Group Player that combines two Booms, a DAC32 and a pCP. I've trimmed the attached log file down to the 10 minutes or so from when the Group Player was turned on before the volume changed, plus a short period afterwards. I'm no expert, so does this look to anyone else as though the mixer volume change request was initiated by iPeng at [21-03-29 18:24:00.4061]? That would be odd if so, because my phone was lying untouched on the table. I don't recall exactly when was the last time I had iPeng in the foreground, but it was definitely before I turned the Group Player on at around 18:13:51. +---+ |Filename: volume change server.log.zip | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=33996| +---+ chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
I just had it happen again - my kitchen Boom was (soft) powered off, and when I turned it on it came on with zero volume. The volume of the other players wasn't affected though - so it seems like a different variant of the problem. As far as I can tell from the server log, the kitchen Boom simply came on with [mixer volume] = [0]. I would not have turned it off in that state. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
Just cautiously asking - maybe the problem be outside group player? There were some threads about a spontaneous increase of the volume? I had this on a no-grouped AirPlay speaker (well - it is grouped, but it was not playing through the group)? I am using no upnp player android devices, but iPeng. So the problem could be a “sudden volume change”? Rainer > On 25 Mar 2021, at 11:02, slartibartfast > wrote: > > > I have noticed this happening sometimes as well but never figured out > why or when. Yes she does respond to recordings mentioning her name (unless you have enabled the option to only respond to your voice, but then you have to train her). By the way, if you did suspect it was Alexa you could enable logging in ngrok and see every incoming jsonrpc POST through your tunnel. The "inspect: false" in your .yml file inhibits this but if you either remove that line or change it to 'true' then in the :4040 web interface for ngrok you can see all the traffic in real time. p.s. And I'm pretty sure I haven't been inadvertently operating the volume buttons on my iPhone that has iPeng running in the background (and I've been using iPeng for so long that this new problem is not likely to have anything to do with it). chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The group is not in use WAY more than it is in use... the_arm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9891 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There are a lot of logging options, and I have no idea which ones would show a volume change. I've set player.sync to Debug. I do also have three Jogglers around the house running Jivelite. The screensaver I'm running causes occasional crashes on a couple of them, but that was happening for a long time before the volume changes started happening. I'll enable some server logging to see if there are any clues the next time it happens. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
Wow, hey, I've been noticing the same thing! I have a sync group consisting of one SB Touch, one SB Radio, and one SB Duet-Receiver. It's always the SB Touch that is spontaneously at 0 volume. It's never happened to me during playback but it just seems that randomly I'll come back to the group, hit play, and two players "work" and the touch is at zero volume. I try to keep everything up to date and it's a relatively recent phenomenon. I do use Material skin, and I have an android tablet (actually a kindle fire) that is more or less permanently running the android material app (sideloaded) with the SB Touch selected as what's being displayed/controlled in the group. I had recently power cycled the Touch hoping that would fix it (it didn't) and was next going to just power off the tablet for a while to see if that had anything to do with it? It doesn't seem likely though since I've been running that app for quite some time and it pre-dates this phenomenon. I'm running LMS on a mac on Mojave. [slim] Spontaneous volume reduction
For a week or two now I've been experiencing my synced players spontaneously going quiet without me apparently doing anything. I can't put my finger on what's causing it. I have a niggling feeling it's something to do with the DAC32, because it's part of the sync group that's experiencing the volume reductions, and whenever it happens I see that the DAC32's volume has reduced to zero, while other players that may have been louder to start with still have a non-zero volume. It could also be related to the fact that I started listening to Greatest Hits radio more frequently. Or it could have been an LMS update (currently on Logitech Media Server Version: 8.2.0 - 1614413430). I've checked the obvious things that I can think of - I'm not using any volume adjustment, and the synced players don't have synced volume. So I'll obviously have to do some trouble-shooting, but I wondered whether anyone else was experiencing similar. chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=114230 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
