Re: [slim] Spotify Question for Michael - Will it really go away?

2017-04-23 Thread JeffHart

Would be interested in working on a plugin but honestly uncertain if I'd
have time. For some reason, the Triode's 3rd party plugin stopped
working yesterday, wasn't able to troubleshoot so changed to the helper
& official Spotify app. Seems to be working so far, no problem
streaming to 3 receivers and a boom simultaneously.

Tried using Shairtunes to stream the Spotify app from my iPad and it was
choppy, might be ok with just one or two receivers. Would be my
fallback if no working Spotify app.

If it does go then an echo dot or chromecast can replace the Spotify
functionality. Not ideal but better than nothing. I would much prefer
another plugin.

I used to do that in a record library. :)

Just saying that for a lot of people the loss of this one aspect won't
kill the platform.

I have discovered quite a bit of new music on spotify that I would never
have heard had I not had it (or another streaming service). If I like
it enough, I get the cd/vinyl or whatever lossless.

But hey, whatever works for you.

I am quite concerned. It would be a huge loss for me if I could not
access Spotify via my Squeezeboxen. I am hopeful that someone can find a
way.

This would be the final nail for me. My two SBT's w/the vortexbox is
already buggy. Always having to diagnose what the issue is when I want
to listen to music. I just can't turn it on and play music...something
always has to be fixedEvery. Single. Time!

If/when spotify goes I will probably get a Bluesound Node 2 (or two of
them since I have two Touches).

This is worrying news for the majority of the Squeezebox users I think.
So what surprises me is that apparently not many people seem concerned.
Or is it all happening behind the scenes?

The Squeezebox community was able to handle many challenges during the

No, no date yet. And ickStream would most likely suffer the same fate.

Not necessarily.
Working this right now.

Sounds good!

I could maybe see a way forward for Logitech, too, but that would mean
work and a firmware update.

Re: [slim] Spotify Question for Michael - Will it really go away?

2017-04-05 Thread Michael Herger

My first question is when you updated the Spotify app a year or so ago,
that this update used the new librespot library so for those of us using

No, it did not.

- The libspotify issue is a firmware issue. We're using it for the
playback only.

- The re-write was about the navigation, content finding, not the
playback. All server-side. Moving from the old metadata API to the new
web API.

- Logitech can't use an in-official, reverse-engineered library which
has not been approved by Spotify anyway.

Spotify through the MSB interface and running a radio or touch we would
be OK. Your recent post seems to indicate that the hardware firmware
will need an update which is unlikely, correct?

Yes.

My second question is do you have a date when we will loose Spotify and
are there any other options available? I read about Ickstream but it
doesn't seem to have a Spotify implementation fully developed yet or
even if it is still being supported.

[slim] Spotify Question for Michael - Will it really go away?

2017-04-05 Thread Mr. Bill

Michael, a few questions for you or anyone else who has the answer. I
read on the Developers forum the following you posted in response to a
Spotify question some weeks ago:

> LibSpotify has been considered deprecated since 2015 and will be shut
> down in 2017

to

You responded:

>Yep, that will be the end. Unfortunately for the Radio/Touch, too, as
>they are using libspotify in the firmware.

>Who's taking the challenge to come up with the first librespot based
>plugin (https://github.com/plietar/librespot)?...

My first question is when you updated the Spotify app a year or so ago,
that this update used the new librespot library so for those of us using
Spotify through the MSB interface and running a radio or touch we would
be OK. Your recent post seems to indicate that the hardware firmware

My second question is do you have a date when we will loose Spotify and

even if it is still being supported.

Thanks, Bill
