Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.0 extremely slow
For what it's worth, I too had trouble with SqueezeCenter running SLOWLY. I dl-d and installed twice yesterday and finally went back to SlimServer 6.54 which works fine. [I've never posted here so I don't know exactly what technical information is useful, so I'll just list the basics on my setup] I am using a VelocityMicro PCX with dual 2.4ghz processors, 2gb of RAM., XP Professional, and Firefox. I have around 5,000 cds, the majority of which are in FLAC, spread out over (5) Harddrives (4 internal [3-Seagate, 1-Western Digital] and (1) external [Western Digital, USB]) with a total of 2.6tb of storage space. I've read that some people are having trouble with the initial library scan. That wasn't a problem for me, the scan seemed to take roughly the same as it used to using 6.54. Subsequent scans, however, were slow and they didn't seem to be going anywhere. But the biggest problem for me was that Squeezecenter was so slow loading. As I said, I downloaded and installed twice, but I also rebooted a couple of extra times to see if that would help. Each time I did, SqueezeCenter took a long time--much longer than SlimServer--to start. This isn't a huge problem, but it was annoying enough for me to switch back to 6.54. I didn't notice any problems with my SB3, but I didn't mess around with it too much. So, for now I am sticking with 6.54 and waiting for the bugs to be fixed. I really liked the look of SqueezeCenter and I look forward to trying it again in the future... -- Clio Clio's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16078 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

How bizarre...squeezecenter would not work on my new sb3, so as I posted earlier was happy when ss 6.5.4 worked fine. Not content with using old software I named my squeezebox (squeezey if you must know!) and installed sc over ss...woking like a dream wahey!!! -- wonder boy wonder boy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15950 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

This is just a speculation on my part, but based on the descriptions above, perhaps the culprit is mysql ? It has a slow query log that can be enabled by using the --log-slow-queries option http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/slow-query-log.html Maybe someone with a performance problem could turn this log on report any findings. -- y360 y360's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.0 extremely slow
I've got the same problem here. The SB3 player interface is too slow to even use and will sometimes freeze. I then have to unplug and replug the SB3. However when the player is actually playing something its totally fine, its only when its gone idle/screensaving that it slows. The web interface for SC7 is very quick and snappy. No problems there. It a fresh install on a new headless server I just built. Windows XP OS. I'm running SC7 as a Service, not as an app. I thought it may be some plugins that I recently added that were screwing with it so I've tried uninstalling most of them. No change in response. I hope I can get this one figured out, I really like the new SC7! -- jbhuffer jbhuffer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15979 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Michael Herger;277744 Wrote: responds extremely slowly to commands until I can finally select an Is this in the player interface or web interface? Do you see high CPU load on your SC server machine or (if in the web) on the machine running the web interface? -- Michael The problem was definitely in the player interface with SC7. It started after I paused a song very close to the end of the track. From there on the whole thing slowed to a crawl. The SqueezeCenter web interface still functioned well, and I was able to control the player from my computer with no problem. I finally solved the problem by doing a full, clean, reinstallation of SC7. Simply reinstalling it without dumping all the old files didn't fix the problem. To do this I had to trash the SC7 prefPane in the OSX Library folder. I also had to dump all vestiges of any older Slimserver files, including install logs. I then went into the system folder and dumped some items that appeared associated with either SC7 or Slimserver 6.x. There seemed to be associated files in the Cache, Syndication, Preference, and Safari folders, all of which I dumped. After doing this and reinstalling SC7, I was able to get back to the sign in page for SC7 and start from scratch. Now everything works again. Is there any documentation available the tells how to do a complete uninstall for MacOSX? -- jmsent jmsent's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14156 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Just to state the obvious (since noone else has), there are a lot of us out here for whom squeezecenter is working perfectly (just as quickly as slimserver). I don't know what's wrong with your setups, but it seems like it must be fixable. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is that anti-virus software might be causing file access slowness. -- lanierb lanierb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5566 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44486 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Well, it was working perfectly for me too when I first installed it, and then I ran into trouble. My reason for working so hard to fix it was my assumption that if it worked properly before, it should do so again. Clearly, I understand that this may be an isolated problem, and now that I've fixed it, it may never happen again. [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.0 extremely slow
Just installed 7.0 on my Mac G4 750 /384 with external WD 500GB firewire drive. 6.5.4 with this setup worked perfectly. With 7.0,my SB3 now responds extremely slowly to commands until I can finally select an album from the playlist menu and hit play. Once that album starts to play, then the response time returns to normal until the album finishes. Then the problem starts all over. I've reinstalled the program, rebooted both the computer and the SB 3, updated the firmware, rescanned the music library, and made sure that the paths to the music folders are correct, but to no avail. I've even started playback in itunes just to make sure that the external hard drive was not in sleep mode. Still the same problem. This just sucks. I want to go back to 6.5, but I can't figure out how to do that. Re: [slim] SqueezeCenter 7.0 extremely slow
I'm with you on this one. I installed SC7 and all seemed fine - for about 60 minutes. Then the web interface ground to a halt. Responses from the remote still OK. I'm running the default skin through IE7.0.5730.11 on Windows XP Pro SP2 with an AMD XP 2800+ 2.09GHz processor, 1GB RAM and 40GB iTunes music library on an 80GB C drive. There is only 3GB free space on the drive if that's significant. A couple of informal observations:- I just selected Albums to list from the libray and it took 84 seconds to load to the Done point where the browser pane responds to a scroll message. No music playing at the time. It is generally very sluggish - to the point of being unuseable when music is played. Going to Classic skin seems to speed things up a bit - album art seems to take forever to download. Running Firefox instead of IE7 seems a bit faster. I had no performance problems with SC6.5.4.
