Re: [slim] 2nd Chance

2008-02-07 Thread Phil Leigh

I suspect this is actually a manifestation of the bizarre MAC cloning
bug, whereby the SB somehow overwrites its own MAC address with that of
something else on the same LAN...it's happened to me twice now (in 3
years of constant fiddling). I've never raised a bug against this
because its clearly pretty rare and almost certainly hard to reproduce
under testing conditions. It is nasty to debug though - but easily
fixed, once detected - just key a new MAC address into the SB.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...SB3+Stontronics PSU - Altmann
JISCO/UPCI - TACT RCS 2.2X with Good Vibrations S/W - MF X-DAC
V3/X-PSU/X-10 buffer (Audiocomm full mods)- Linn 5103 - Linn Aktiv 5.1
system (6x LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend
Supertweeters, Kimber Chord cables

I'm concerned when you said that the two units had the same MAC address.
Was the same number printed on two labels? Did the labels match what
the software said the MAC addresses were? What were they?

No, you don't need to change the slimserver at all to add remove
squeezeboxes. This is because it's designed to have more than one
attached. All you need to do is setup the new squeezebox, tell it
where your server is and you're done.

if you're showing a player with a 127.0.0.1 address, it probably means
you were running softsqueeze on teh same machine as your server. You
can tell it to forget each existing player individually and then set up
your new hardware player and you'll be good to go.
