I guess you are right, I made similar assumptions when thinking about
it and the only reasonable upgrade that I can think of would be a
better readable display in brighter light conditions, they could stick
it in the Controller without other changes.
Anyway, the cost for such an upgraded Controller certainly would start
again at 400#8364; in Europe, which is to expensive for me atm. Let's
see how business is in the next few weeks and I will decide if I can
afford a Duet.

Re: [slim] I bought a used Duet off eBay

2008-09-27 Thread SomeChap

I was wondering that too... Where to go next with the Squeezebox. SD
seem to have hit the formula on the head, to confuse a few metaphors.

I suppose that's why the focus is on broadening the range with
Controllers and Booms and 3rd-party plugins etc, rather than refining
the core product functionality any further. I would also wonder if the
whole range needs a bit more large-scale market traction before it can
settle into its niche properly.

On the other hand, it's not as if the competition (eg Sonos etc) is
exactly innovating furiously.

I got the Duet today. It is in great shape and setup went smoothly. I
did have to download the manual to figure out setting up the Receiver,
but then it was easy. Right now it is playing Rockabye Baby Pink Floyd
for my visiting niece who is down for a nap.

Re: [slim] I bought a used Duet off eBay

2008-09-26 Thread signor_rossi

Probably off topic, but didn't want to open new thread for it and
squeeze it in anyway ;)
New Duets can be found for as low as 265€ (without shipping) on Italian
online shops now (not immediately available, though), this may be of
interest to some Italian people.
I almost can't hold back, but is there a new Duet revision coming?
These prices seem suspicious.

I would. You might be able to configure it without a reset, but I'm
sure it will be much easier with the reset.

To do a factory reset on the controller, first turn the controller off.
Then you hold down the + button as you press the power button. Release
after a few seconds.

You should factory reset the player too.

Thanks! So it's the same basic reset process for the Controller as the
older players. Makes sense.

another great place to get used sb's is craig's list. I've picked up a
slimp3, sb1 and sb2 all on craig's list and the prices for each of them
were quite low.

Re: [slim] I bought a used Duet off eBay

2008-09-24 Thread maggior

One potential pitfall...depending on the firmware rev on the controller
now, it may or may not be able to deal with password protection on your
SqueezeCenter. If you have trouble getting the controller to connect to
your server, you can try temporarily disabling the password. It will
then connect to the server and update the FW to a current version.
Then you should be able to connect to the server.

I'm not sure how you enter the server password at that point - you may
just have to do another factory reset on the controller. With current
FW, the setup wizard on the controller will ask for the username and
password of SqueezeCenter. I recently had to do a factory reset on my
controller to help debug a bug I reported and it asked for the username
and password. I was happy to see that the configuration usability had
improved.

You may have no trouble at all with the setup, but brace yourself for
potential issues.

Have fun with your new toy when it arrives!

Are you talking about:
a password I specifically entered into SC
the admin password for my server which is running SC
the wireless security password

Hopefully the first, because I don't have that set up.

I'm talking about the security settings in squeezecenter itself, not an
account login on the server.

Basically, if you don't need to enter a username and password when you
access SC via the web interface, you don't have security setup and
should have not trouble.
