I just pulled up the synchronize menu in Squeezecenter (SC 7.2 on Win
XP)and noticed it only listed the first 14 players with no button to go
to a second page. How do I get to the rest of my players when setting up
 synchronization?

Could you resize that window to have access to the other players? (just
drag the bottom right corner down a big)

Re: [slim] Players Missing From Synchronize Menu

2008-10-08 Thread androidtopp

Yes, thank you, Mark. I'm trying to rationalize that, and even for a
super geek like me, it's hard to do.

14 SoftSqueeze instances? No, that would mean 14 computers. Maybe 14
VMs?
14 physical players? Well, that's just awesome...but overkill?

I would not be shocked if we found that SC will only show 14 players
becuase no one would ever need more than 14 players! Will this go
down in history like Bill Gates and the 512kB of memory (or however
much it was.)

UpstateMike, can we see some pictures of this ubersetup?

And my SBB as well...Is it wrong that my alarm clock is worth more than
most of my stereo components? I need to work on that.

There's no such thing as a limitation. Was simply an issue with IE
incorrectly calculating the window height, thus overflowing it with the
list. It should now offer a scroll bar if the list doesn't fit.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry Michael, I definitely didn't mean to imply anything
negative there. Just musing.

And, in looking at that bug...Bell Tower? I really need to see
pictures of this.

Sorry if you think this is overkill and I guess I am out of sync with
the majority but here are my reasons for having so many players:

1- I believe that the correct way to distribute music is using
synchronized local networked sources rather than a single source
feeding a mult-zone amp. This has the advantage of full local control
at each location, full meta-data at each location, and full flexibility
to play synchronized, or not, at any location without preset limits to
the number of sources or zones. Despite the number, I do not use
Squeezeboxes in every nook and corner of the house (None in bedrooms
except mine, 6 basement rooms share a single player, 3 3rd floor rooms
share a single player, etc.)

2- The display. The display is what makes it useful to have players in
both the Library and the Dining Room even though they are right next to
each other. The display is what makes Squeezeboxes useful even when
music is not playing (weather, stocks, home automation alerts). The
display is what provides the wow factor with guests. The display is
what makes the players easy to configure (just try setting up a static
IP on an SBR and you will wish you had gotten an SB3 instead!) The
display is why I have 16 zones of Squeezebox Players rather than 16
zones of Sonos.

I definitely am not making fun of you - that's seriously awesome. And I
agree, my SB count just grew from 1, and I find that walking around the
house with players synchronized is absolutely spectacular. Just having 2
physical plus a SoftSqueeze is amazing.

I'm just trying to imagine 14 players - I don't even have 14 rooms.

Oh you certainly don't have to defend it! I'm just amazed, that's all.
:-)

I believe we may have a winner for most players...

Try the OtherPlayers plugin, that doesn't have any limit that I'm aware

Did you try a different skin like the classic one?

Sync is also accessible from the Player Settings, though the semantics
are different. If you're using the main page pulldown, sync means
take control of. On the player settings page, it means play what
that other (group of) squeezebox(es) is playing.

Thanks for the heads up on semantics. Unfortunately the player settings
menu does not show all of the players either. I guess I'll have to try
another skin.
