Score a Boom! it is a great sounding system if you are bought into the
SB ecosystem. (The Radio is not, sounds awful in comparison).

if you start from scratch there are many offerings that sound good. i
LOVE our ecosystem, but i would not recommend it to mainstream customers
these days. :-(

Hi there,

Another option could be a Jungo speaker - I have just purchased a Jungo
S3 spearker and it works with the UpnpBridge plugin. Was discovered by
the plugin without a lot of fuzz.
After a quick test the speaker seems to quite a good bargain. Build
quality seems good, nice size, and the sound is for sure OK as a kitchen
speaker or for ambient music.

Gives the same control option as the other players - just not sync.

great LMS / iPeng control.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

Hi,
I would suggest an AirPlay speaker and the AirPlay bridge plugin.

Simple solution, with a minimum of hardware.

Chromecast Audio connected to Audio Pro Addon T3 and you can move it
around in the house (or anywhere). T3 runs on battery, has both AUX and
can power a USB device like Chromecast.

Use the Chromecast Bridge plugin and control it like a SB.

Don't forget any SB controller (Touch, Radio, Controller) can control
any other SB device. I often use my Touch to control a wide variety of
SB devices around the house.

You could also use an airplay device and repurpose the Touch to a more
SQ-critical mission if you don't mind controlling the player through an
app.
With philippe_44's airplay bridge plugin you have audio sync if you
want.

2 A2+ would fit probably. But will an PLAY 5 not offer better sound than
2 A2+?
2 A5+ would be too big I think. I have added kitchen photos; the boom
will move and I have one shelf (or the top shelf) for a speaker
replacement.

Re: [slim] Single speaker for kitchen - advice needed

2016-03-02 Thread RonM

The ideal solution would have been a Radio rather than a Touch, I
suspect. All in one, small size. Probably cheaper too. You might be
able to sell the Touch (in great demand) for enough to get one.

LMS on a dedicated server (FitPC3)
Transporter (Ethernet) - main listening, Onkyo receiver, Paradigm
speakers
Touch (WiFi) - home theater 5.1, Sony receiver, Energy speakers
Boom 1 (WiFi) - work-space
Boom 2 (WiFi) - various (deck, garage, etc.)
Radio (WiFi) - home office
Control - Squeeze Control (Android mobile), 2 Controllers (seldom used),
Squeeze Remote (on Surface Pro 2)
Touch x 1 - spare
UE Radio x 1 - spare
Boom x 1 - spare
Controller x 1 - Spare
Duet Receiver (backup)

The PLAY:5 sounds great and using "Autoplay" can act as a basic powered
speaker for your Touch:

If you have room for a PLAY:5 you might consider a pair of Audioengine

Hi,

Maybe you want to take a look at the Nubert NuPro100. Unfortunately the
nubert.de Website is only available in german. They are small active
speakers with all necessary Inputs (spdif, toslink, USB and analog) and
it is possible to use them stereo or single. I own a paar of nuvero 60
and the are really great.

Cambridge Audio also has a nice range of (wireless) speakers. Most of
the wireless / bluetooth speakers have an aux input too:
https://www.cambridgeaudio.com/wireless-sound

JBL has (bluetooth) speakers:
http://be.jbl.com/bluetooth-speakers-en-docks/

I have a UE speaker which works quite nice as well. The model I have is
a small one I use during travelling. Although they are small, the sound
they produce is quite big. UE was bought by Logitech some time ago:

There are a whole bunch of other (wireless) speakers you could look at:

So in short, a lot of choice... good luck
