Re: [Discuss-gnuradio] [GSoC] A DAB/DAB+ transceiver app: Draft of proposal

2017-03-21 Thread Moritz Luca Schmid

Hi Ben,

thanks a lot for your helpful advice!

Most typos should be fixed by now and I am going to add the paragraph
breaks.

The chapter "Deliverable Features" - you are right - does not clearly
separate the deliverables from the existing stuff.

I am going to improve that.

Thanks again! I am really glad to receive so much feedback from the
community!

Hi Moritz -

Nice work! I'm really happy to see this proposal. A few notes:

* If you plan on integrating any other software into your work, please
specifically call out its license.
* As Martin said, it would be good to fix some of the typos. Also,
please add a paragraph break (either an indent or a carriage return)
to more clearly indicate where your paragraphs start & stop.
* In "Deliverable Features", there actually seems to be a mix of
things that you will deliver as part of this GSoC project, and things
that already exist that you will re-use. It would be good to find a
way to specifically highlight which items you are implementing /
contributing to GNU Radio as part of the work (note that integrating
third-party software into a block *is* a contribution).

I'm really excited to see where this goes, and great work so far!

Cheers,

Maybe you could reuse (some of) their code and mainly
integrate it into GNU Radio.

Re: [Discuss-gnuradio] [GSoC] A DAB/DAB+ transceiver app: Draft of proposal

2017-03-20 Thread Marcus Müller
Hi Ben,

that might be a bit much too ask for, since that involves the fine
details of synchronizing audio hardware to RF hardware. We've had a
lengthy discussion on that:

https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/discuss-gnuradio/2016-11/msg00029.html

And frankly, Fons seems to be a bit of an expert on low-latency Audio on
Linux, and I'm a bit of an expert on GNU Radio, and we couldn't agree on
a universal, easy way to do that. I'd be really really happy if a
student evaluated different control loops to implement for example the
DLL or other approaches. But that alone would probably be worth a GSoC,
if not a thesis.

Best regards,

Marcus

Hi Moritz,

very cool GSoC subject! I'm maintaining the open-source DAB+
transmission toolchain ODR-mmbTools [1] that is used in production
deployments in several countries. Very happy to see that someone will
work on extending gr-dab and pursuing the work that Andreas has done!

Don't hesitate to get in touch with me or with other people from

Wishing you a successful start of the GSoC,
