Re: [ACFUG Discuss] using REPLACE within CFQUERY for ACCESS db

2006-11-26 Thread Tom Chambers
I've run into many issues using CF-built queries on an Access db over
the years. I recall one that had about a dozen doublequotes in it. Freaky!

Have you tried including the [] around the field name just for fun?

T

[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Sorry, the double quotes in the query statements are simply a typo on my
part. I didn't copy and paste the actual query, I simply retyped it as I
wrote the email and out of bad habit used " quotes.

The quotes ' or " is not the problem. This query and/or using the REPLACE
function works perfectly well on all my SQL datasources. This particular
site (still) has an Access db. And therein lies the rub.

Yes, I could, and probably should, "upsize" the Access mdb to SQL-2000, but
for right now that's more trouble than simply making the query behave.

So, any ideas on how to use the REPLACE function in a query on an Access db?
Or, baring that, how would you create a similar end result of ORDER BY the
mTitle column ignoring "the" if it is the first word in a movie title?

Thanks,

Dan

However, when I run this I get an error that the function REPLACE is
undefined:

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Server Questions

2006-09-27 Thread Tom Chambers

MC
Tell them they can contract with me. I've successfully connected my
refrigirator, microwave and coffee pot to my CF server. Jeremy once
connected a toaster to his PC. I'm sure between the two of us we could
take care of things for them. :)

Seriously, what is the justification for trying to do what they are
asking? I think they are trying to squeeze way too much onto one
installation. Heaven forbid that one box die with everything including
the security system and payroll app on it. :)

The server side of things is definitely not my forte. The powers that

hosting into one server (cluster). Now the Java apps seem to do a
good bit of processing on their own servers right now, and not like
the we've just got a couple of itsy-bitsy CF apps either. Are there
resources out there (other than the docs) that talk about optimum

Leadin : Old CF system, most things work well with CFMX. Dozen or so
Crystal Reports files.

Issue: After upgrading from pre-CFMX to CFMX7 the CFREPORT calls do not
result with anything. No errors. Just no data below the header.

Any ideas?

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] Change Management Options Debate.

2006-08-03 Thread Tom Chambers
Subversion is a great tool for source code mgmt and baselining.
However, its roots are from the Linux side. Do some Googling and read
up on it.

Now, you mention comparing. There a several free 'diff' tools out
there. You can find them Googling also.

good luck

While I am new to development I have reached a point where I realize that we
have to modify AbleCommerce (our CF based shopping cart) but that Able
continues to revise their product, and create new updated builds.

This is going to become a mess as we go our way with their product and they
go theirs.

What I need to do is manage changes. We have been keeping a log file on
changes but they are only as good as the technician that documents it.
With this being the case I had a discussion last night at the study group
with Teddy, and John that there are many many other options that may be good
for me.

I will need to compare Older AbleCommerce builds with newer ones so I can
see the changes.
Also to save as a base line a certain config as a build once updates are
done. Then examining the AbleCommerce changes integrate them into our code.
Or Vice versa. And this needs to be as simple as possible.

So I respectfully open the floor for debate on what is the best FREEWARE
product for us to manage these ongoing changes.

Note:
These changes would be CFM, CSS, & WZC (AbleCommerce Wizard) files only for
the most part that I can see.
It would also be nice however if certain tables in the DB could be saved
with a build as well if that would be possible. (for cart settings mostly)
We are using CF6 at the moment on a Windows 2K server in MySQL4.1

Let the debate begin!

Thanks!

Re: [ACFUG Discuss] CFMX 7.01 on Centos 4 (aka RHEL)

2006-06-20 Thread Tom Chambers

Hi Howard,
Did you go with Centos because of a customer requirement?

Howard Fore wrote:

Hey,

I'm trying to get CFMX 7 running on Centos 4. For the uninitiated,
Centos 4 is a Linux distribution compiled from the Red Hat Enterprise
Linux sources. Yes, I know this is not an officially supported
configuration. I got no errors from the installer other than a warning
that it couldn't confirm if I had the libstdc++ compatibility library
loaded (I do).

I ran into a problem first with the missing JDBC drivers jar
("java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: macromedia/jdbc/MacromediaDriver" in
the log). I fixed that and now the server starts but the CF servlets
don't load. I've googled around for others with this issue but they
seem to be having problems with things that don't apply to my
situation (multiple instances, multiple JVMs, etc.). Can someone point
me in the right direction here?
