Thank you very much for the suggestion Les!
After a bit more fiddling, I found the problem. It looks as though I had
forgotten to configure IIS to view the site locally. CF was happy as a
lark running all the source but IIS didn't have a clue.

You might check for a missing alias mapping in the web service.
