Auth is a long way from the ORM. :) I guess first make sure you understand
contrib.auth. Maybe look at some auth tickets.

Then for 2fa, there's not a concrete proposal in play, so the first goal is
that. There's some prior art here — and a thread recently on this topic if
you search here — so I guess I'd begin looking at that.
It should give some idea. From there it's easier to solicit concrete
feedback.
