[DNG] postgres

2016-05-27 Thread Héctor González

Hello all.

What is the proper way to report a problem with a package?

I made an account at git.devuan.org, but didn´t find a project that
seemed appropiate.

Last week I upgraded several debian Xen DomU´s (from wheezy) and
installed a Dom0, all with devuan,

they are working fine, but there were a couple glitches.

One is with postgres, which is running, but complained during the
upgrade that it doesn´t
know the debian version, the script that complains is
/usr/share/postgresql-common/supported-versions,

and here is a patch to fix it:

*** supported-versions  2016-05-26 19:10:18.387175510 -0500
--- supported-versions.orig 2016-05-26 19:07:13.767175510 -0500
*** default() {
*** 59,67
  [dD]ebian)
  debian "$RELEASE"
  ;;
- [dD]evuan)
- devuan "$RELEASE"
- ;;
  *)
  echo "supported-versions: WARNING! Unknown distribution:
$DISTRO" >&2
  if  echo $ID_LIKE | egrep  '(^| )ubuntu($| )' > /dev/null;
then

--- 59,64
*** debian_backports() {
*** 150,171
  esac
  }

- devuan() {
- case "$1" in
- 1|1.*) # Jessie
- /bin/echo -e "9.4"
- ;;
- testing | unstable)
- /bin/echo -e "9.4"
- ;;
- *)
- echo "supported-versions: WARNING: Unknown Devuan release:
$1" >&2

- /bin/echo -e "$DEFAULT"
- ;;
- esac
- }
-
-
  pgdg() {
  case $1 in
  testing | unstable)
--- 147,152

The other problem was with samba-common, but it was discussed on the
list already.

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 samba : Depends: samba-common (=2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2) but it is not
 going to be installed
 Depends: samba-common-bin (=2:4.2.10+dfsg-0+deb8u2) but it is
 not going to be installed
 Recommends: attr but it is not going to be installed
 Recommends: samba-vfs-modules but it is not going to be
 installed

I ran into the same issue and downloaded samba-common from
debian-jessie:

https://packages.debian.org/jessie/all/samba-common/download
then installed it with dpkg -i and then continue with apt-get
install samba

Devuan has and older version of this package, and it blocks the
installation.

I just had an hour to spare, so I thought I'd quickly whip
up a crude walk-through for a "minimalist"[1] Devuan JWM/LXDM.
It may serve as a starting point for a more elaborate write
up for installing a "fancy" JWM desktop installation.

Here goes, use at will:

--8<---

How To Install A Minimalist Devuan JWM+LXDM Desktop Environment
---

1. Install the Devuan base system. Follow the installer
   defaults, but select the preferred locale settings and
   enter the user account details. Do not select a desktop
   environment!

2. After the reboot, login as root.

3. Add to /etc/apt/sources.list the following line:
   deb http://auto.mirror.devuan.org/merged ascii main

4. Issue the following commands to install lxdm:
   # apt-get update
   # apt-get --no-install-recommends install lxdm

5. Remove from sources.list the line added in step 3.

6. Issue the following command to install JWM:
   # apt-get --no-install-recommends install jwm xorg menu

7. Reboot the system:
   # reboot

8. In the LXDM login screen select "Jwm" for the Desktop
   (it will "stick") and login with your user account.

9. To shut down or reboot the system, terminate JWM via "Exit"
   from the JWM menu, and then use the LXDM "Quit" menu.

It's really hard to "steel" from FOSS, unless you try to make it proprietary.
Explaining how to use it is not a problem.

I will try ... Irrwahn, who followed closer might be the one who can
judge if it's worse the pain or not.

Mainly, what i did was about jwm as a desktop environment. Since it is
for me personally, i had no retention to "steel" from other
installations/distros, but i do not know, if this is "politically"
correct, eventhough we're always talking about FOSS (?).

Anyway, over the weekend i'll try to put the things together. May be,
then, someone more familiar with english and "computerese" can have a
look at it.

Cheers.

Dear emninger, when you are finished more more than less, it would
be very valuable if you could give us a summary, like a simple howto,
because digging the thread to trace back everything you tried is a lot
of work. I think a mail with a proper title going to the archive could
